I'm from SPI and have been fortunate enough to surf in more countries than most people can name - typing this from Fiji. We may not have the prettiest water or the best surf in Texas but hands down we have the best vibe in the water and about 3 or 4 days a year when all the stars and planets line up and it blows offshore with a hurricane a few hunder miles offshore... we get a truly epic day that nobody but a gulf coast surfer can truly appreciate. You haters are always invited for a session.

No surfing in Texas my ass. We surf here with no wetsuit on February. We got tanker surfing too in Galveston bay. Beat that!!!! Not to mention we fish the green light (at night) for specs and reds.

to be a real gulf surfer you have to be pretty hardcore. only someone hardcore could surf that shit. just paddling out can be unbelieveably exhausting because the waves have no rythme nor reason. to be one with these waves is to be one with chaos.

If im correct it's the surfside/quintana channel there is extreme depth change in the water right there on quintana side channel when it blows in hard it creates that big swell, never seen anyone ride it though.

surfing is not about where you live or who's waves are better.. it is about getting in the ocean and becoming one with nature while you contemplate your existence, then mother nature smiles on you and provides you with a nice clean set.

i grew up in the gulf, surfing bob hall and spi, now i am fortunate enough to to reside in sw oahu - i will surf anywhere, anytime, and IT IS ALL GOOD.
