  • "Mr. Penguin," aka Fred Rerun Berry. The foundation of hip hop dance.

  • MY BAD THIS IS TONY BASIL.

  • DON CAMPBELLOCK,"SLIM THE ROBOT" ,SHABBA DOO, "FLUKY LUKE"',CAMPBELLOCK JR , AND OF COURSE "MR PENGUIN"

  • MY BAD THIS IS ACTUALY TONY BASIL .

  • Is that girl Toni Basil?

  • Who else is facinated by this?

  • Well he's one of the judges

  • @bighouse 1185 yes that was rerun.

  • was that rerun the heavy set guy?

  • they all look like mush mouth from fat albert lol

  • This sh*t is crazee

  • oww so thats were MJ got the kick from, and this hole time i taught he got it from bruce lee.

  • @JackieMichaels1994 and the points and the lock movements. He learned from these guys as well as the Electric Boogaloo, Jeffrey Daniel, and Poppin Taco, he learned moonwalking and waving from those guys.

  • to OrlyDudeGuy:

What a lot of people don't know is that Michael Jackson got the names of the dance moves mixed up. The dance where you walk and move backwards is called the backslide (not the moonwalk). The moonwalk is another dance where you walk and lift up from the ground as if you were walking on the moon where the gravitational pull is less than earth.

  • @Stefan990 I know that it's called the backslide, from the Electric Boogaloo by Boogaloo Sam and Poppin Pete. A moonwalk is a type of float move to give the impression of floating as if floating on the moon. I practice popping, locking, and robot.

  • to OrlyDudeGuy:

The real name of the dance is called Campbellocking. Invented by Don "Campbellock" Campbell of the famous group "Don Campbell and the Campbellock Dancers".

  • @Stefan990 The reason why I said moonwalking is because the person I replied to may have no idea what a backslide is. I personally don't think MJ mixed up popping and locking. He likely combined both to create his own dancing style. IMO, he knew the difference, in his "Jam" song music video, there are scenes in which he's just popping in one and just locking in the other. There's also a Jackson 5 video where it shows 4 of the brothers and one older white guy and they're all locking.

  • to OrlyDudeGuy:

In my previous comment I said "that Michael Jackson got the names of the dance moves mixed up." The dance move that is called the backslide, he called the moonwalk. I didn't say Michael Jackson got the name of the dance itself mixed up.

  • @Stefan990 Ah well, Michael Jackson did more than just dancing.

  • he was fred mr penguin berry at the time

  • Consumer Rapport - Ease On Down The Road (1975).

  • 日本はファンキーフルーツ!

  • is toni basil in this video of of them locking and popping... i think ican see her but i can't tell

  • @Ash2theB Yes that's Toni Basil, the lockers were formed by Don Campbell & Toni Basil, and she served as the locker's manager as well as being a dancer.

  • to TonyHStanley:

What a lot of people don't know is that the name of the group is "Don Campbell and the Campbellock Dancers." Members of the group didn't like the name and didn't want to give credit to Don Campbell (originator of the dance). So they started saying the name of the group is called "The Lockers." When you look at video when the group started they would say "introducing Don Campbell and the Campbellock Dancers."

And the name of the dance is really called "Campbellocking."

  • @Stefan990 Yes this is true :-)

  • to TonyHStanley:

You must know Don "Campbellock" Campbell. Because only a few people know this stuff.

  • @Stefan990 Of course I know Don 'Campbellock' Campbell! I've been to a locking class. I thought a lot of people knew that he created 'Campbellocking'..

  • to TonyHStanley:

I mean that you must know Don "Campbellock" Campbell, as in you meat him and spoke to him. Was Don "Campbellock" Campbell the teacher of your class in Campbellocking?

  • @Stefan990 Oh right, I've not met him actually, the guy who took the class I went to is Jerry Tse, a street dancer /choreographer/teacher who is the founder & director of Sunshine Studios Manchester.

  • @TonyHStanley Oh I've heard of Sunshine Studios. I think somone who teaches there is Judging the Midlands prelim to the UK HIP-HOP champs.

  • @NAZA1823 Cool. Any idea who? I'm studying Street hip-hop, B-boying & Popping @ Sunshine Studios at the moment, & Capoeira with CDO Cheshire too.

  • @TonyHStanley The guy I know of who I know for his Popping is called Nacer "MisterStep" Hamadi. Go check him out he is a good popper.

  • @Stefan990 Campbellocking or Locking. Much like breakdancing is really "B-Boying" or "Breaking".

  • to OrlyDudeGuy:

Yes, the name for the dance element of hip-hop is b. boying. Where the b stands for break. The element was named b. boying by the father of hip-hop himself, Kool Herc.

  • ist hat mc shun rappin at the first of this video?

  • Michael Jackson - Ease On Down The Road

  • Snag me two tickets for the taint show!

  • Did this pre-date The Wiz?

  • I dont think so. The Broadway production was 1975. lockers didn't split till late 70's. not to mention i don't know why else they would make this song. haha

  • YEP! Shabadoo, Toni Basil, and Fred ReRun Berry. Man this is truly a Classic and straight up HOT TO DEATH! I LOVE IT!

  • Toni Basil was married to Fred "Rerun" Berry

  • Tell em- fellas before rap (who swears to God, no form of black music or acts existed

before them) there was the Lockers baby.

    Sybenett-

P.S. Da Lockers started all of this baby.

    Remember!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Sybenett

Um Ever heard of Um...MOTOWN!!!!! How about the Rock and roll era which was started by black artist like Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Little Ritchie etc... Not Elvis.

  • to c0mm0ns3nc3:

The originator of Rock and Roll is Little Richard.

  • Is it me or did 38-45 secs kind of remind them of michael jackson?

  • no its not just u;)

michael in my opinion was pretty much influenced by toni...especially the kick

  • this was one of my best song that i would dance too cool

  • Was the chick in there Toni Basil?

  • YES

  • Yes that was her.

  • Cool. Thanx

  • The woman in this video isn't Toni Basil. I'm pretty sure that she is Fawn Quinones.

  • it is toni basil.

  • fawn performed with lockers before this group. They didn't really make it big till their manager Toni joined the act. i dont know if there is even footage anymore with Fawn in the group.

  • i dunno there are alot of lockers nowadays that keep the funk in their dancing, plock and jimmysoul and the gogo brothers are ones i know that everyone would probably know, but if people only locked like the lockers it would not be their own style and thats not what locking is about

  • PPlz NeeD 2 Jus WatCH Old SchOOl locking... PPlz nowadays dont lock with that funk... i see pplz lockin but they lockin like they went 2 school for it(technical locking) niggas from baq then lock with the loose-ness and all.... pure funk.. shabba doo is a funk locker... jus go and look him up..

  • Agree with you 100% GLC,'da funk'is conspicuous by its absence in so many of todays so-called 'Lockers'.Part of the problem is too many of the current generation are about on stage'performance'& ego-fuelled 'battling',rather than just simply dancing for the fun of it.The best dancing I believe evolves not in the antiseptic confines of the dance studio, but in the vibrant social milieu of the club, street or school playground where spontaniety & improvisation is more likely to naturally flourish.

  • i agree..back then they learned all that from the streets or just watchin professional dancers dance on tv

  • PPlz NeeD 2 Jus WatCH Old SchOOl locking... • Was that Shabba in there too..god it is, and Lil Tony B, she was really pretty...OG'S lead by the great Mr. Campbell.

  • OMG I would be dead by the end of this sequence.

  • Check this vid out AGAIN...it's "Re-Run," Fred Berry, the short one in the yellow stripes, and his signature baret! Let me know if I'm wrong, but that's Re-run...no one locks like Re-run!

  • You got it that's The Man Rerun!

  • toni got on her little cute outfit...you go girl!!!:)

  • their clothes are hillarious lol

  • Not really.Their clothes influenced some of these hiphop artist today.Proof look at Andre 3000 from outkast..He wears the exact same clothes as the lockers til this day

  • thanks for posting this

    history

  • -Thanks for Posting!!!-

  • Tony at her funky best here, I was a fan of hers in those days so it's nice to see all these videos.

I remember the Swan Lake one from SNL, but it was hard to imitate them without being able to watch it over and over, like the Koreans are doing now because of youtube, and basically just copying it all with a modern twist, but not enough to call it original ghetto lockin'.

  • Shabba Doo was not the original locker. He's like second generation.

  • Correction, he was an original locker. Just look it up. He's the lanky light-skinned guy.

  • He was part of the group "The Lockers", but was not part of the original pioneering culture of locking/Campbellocking. Cheers!

  • he is some how credited as being an original lockers because Don started the group in early 73'...this is true...though locking has begun around 69'/70'...Shabba Doo was the last to be introduced into the original locking circuit by the Go Go Brothers in late 1973 while the others were in early 73'...but he is credited as being an ORIGINAL LOCKER...the CORE group who were consistant from 73'-the end of the 70's...

  • Toni Basil rocks it out with Rerun, Shabadoo and the Gang - xxxtra phonk-ey!

  • toni basil was really cute in this video

  • Rerun(What's Happenin),Toni Basil(Hey Mickie and also choriographer), and shabbadoo(Breakin movies). They were also Soul Train dancers. They have been my favorite sinse I was a kid.Love to see more like them.

  • loved these guys from the 70's. i wanted to be able to dance like them sooooooooooooo badly!

  • lol no offense to anybody because I LOVE ALL FUNKSTYLES, but i don't think anybody can deny that the outfits are ridiculous. i'm sure people will say the same about modern clothes one day.

  • whatup RERUN!RIP!

  • I love watching ol-skool shit like this. It takes me back to when I was about 7 or 8 years old watching Soul Train!!!!

  • Thats actually the LA Lockers and yes thats 'Rerun' from Whats Happening and Shabbadoo(ozone)from the movie 'Breakin'
