So how is the supposed socialization of the means of production attained? Doubtless this ideal society could only come about by the directive force of organized central planning, which is colloquially known as the "state". Only organic progress towards a stateless socialism, by the people, could make this utopia possible. This is impossible, many would not agree to property establishments, only ascetics agree to this self-denial. Force and coercion would be necessary for this change to occur.
@nicoheckens1 We aren't talking about an overnight change. What we need first is a society that is open and where learning can occur. A society that doesn't have its opinions predetermined for it by a corporate controlled media. When you have an open society that is objective and willing to listen and learn, we will have already created a sort of anarchism because the people will be working together without the need of a state. This isn't just political anarchism this is a form of
@kingdavidek psychological anarchism that is needed. After the revolution of the mind has been accomplished then we can think of having a political revolution, which mind you, is not necessarily violent. If we can all think openly we can come to the best form of society. I believe that is anarchy.
How come he says 'state socialism' is a contradiction and refuses to talk about it, but then puts healthcare systems in 'state socialist' countries as better examples than the one in the U.S.?
@gulbirk Chomsky supports social democratic government policies for pragmatic, short term-oriented reasons, and he agrees the state is a necessary part of our current society. Somewhere else he says doesn't agree with right-wing libertarians because he would want the state to be dismantled only after the type of society he talks about here has been put in place. (Our state would have become obsolete in such a case, like royalty or religious institutions are now in Europe.)
this is the BEST discussion on history , analysis and future potential of populist movements and attempts to organize human societies i have ever heard and the first i can agree with-i have always revered Noam Chomsky and feel privileged to have arrived at the same conclusions for which his vast experience and study provide the proof! EVERYBODY should watch this and reframe!
There are too few lectures on Chomsky's conception of anarchism. Fewer even than his videos on linguistics. So when I find a video like this it goes right to my favourite list. A quality discussion by a quality mind. Thanks for sharing buddy.
Is there a transcipt of this somewhere?
