uh by the way, cube 2 is the engine and Sauerbraten is the program. I know because there is also a kids' version of cube 2 called sandbox which is identical to sauerbraten, but without guns.

There are some graphic options in the game.

Also in some cases (like in this video) a blur can make the graphics look better.

Does online gameplay work to any extent with dialup? I know it does fairly well online using AssaultCube (a Cube 1 engine game)

As long as you don't plan on hosting then dialup will be fine. I can host a 4 man server on my 160kb connection fairly easily.

Probably Sauerbraten, as it's designed from the ground up to be easy to mod with. You can create new maps right in the gameplay engine itself.

Yes, it's based on Cube. Sauerbraten is the engine behind Cube 2.

The demo was just going through some examples of areas that were already implemented. I didn't make them.

The engine is very processor intensive. Due to the entire level being loaded at the start, it has to dedicate more processing power and memory to running the map.

Therefore, no matter how good your computer is, the game will always run better on the smaller levels.

That's the cost of having gigantic seamless levels.

Yes, Sauerbraten has HUGE levels, and it loads the whole thing at once in case you need to edit or play multiplayer.. No swapping back to disk.

I love this engine, but as many people have said, the player models and such look like crap! At a glance, the enviroment looks vaguely like something from an Xbox 360 game.

the game in it's current form can support MD5 (doom 3) models, nobody has ever used any though.

hey if you want to make MMORPGs... try RPG-Maker2k. it was a good intro in "easy rpg" for me. then you can start on own scripting =P ;) good luck

RPG Maker 2000 is not free, does not make online games, and is not 3D. What does this have to do with Sauerbraten?

legally you cant even get the rpgm2k, but he wants to make mmorpg. there are also several plugins for network gaming

I didn't really enjoy this game. I think the quake 3 engine is a lot more compatiable. A geforce 5500 would not run this game, but will run quake 3 fine.  Unless, of course, you are using linux.

the 6600 gt runs it great with all visual options set at max. Maybe you just need to adjust your settings.
