  • Melkor would fuck this guy up.

  • i love playing lotro, going into the forest and just chillin in his house :D

  • I demand that Tom Bombadil gets his own spin-off book.

I would buy that in a heartbeat!

  • @Game1ngAssass1n

    He does!

Tolkien actually wrote a whole other collection of stories relating to Tom Bombadil.

The book is, suitably, named: "The Adventures of Tom Bombadil"

the only trouble is finding a copy.....

  • Tom BOMBADILLO!

  • J'adore !

  • i wish he was in the movie ive read the fellowship of the ring almost done with the two towers

  • this was my favorate chapter in the book :D

  • THe only reason I heard that Jackson didn't include Tom was because he couldn't find anyone jolly enough save Santa Claus hehe. Pity!

  • 1:35 Paul Kidby is pure genius.

  • Who exactly is this guy?

  • @Nonlethal106 Nobody knows, he is one of the most mysterious characters in the book. Tolkien did not explain his origin and left it for us to imagine...

  • @Nonlethal106 He is the guy who could've just danced into mordor and kicked sauron in the dick, all while wearing the ring as a piercing on his dick(He's immune to the rings effect, and it's also explained that he is the first and will be the last(Meaning overpowered as all hell))

  • @Galandrel Hahaha the dick piercing made me roflmao.

  • @Nonlethal106 god of hobbits :)

  • When Boogeyman goes to sleep, he check for Chuck Norris under his bed. But when the Chuck Norris goes to sleep, he check for Bombadil under his bed!

  • Tom is a hippy.

  • Gotta love Tolkien.

three pages for the battle of Pelenor fields, the second-most important battle of the 3rd age.

42 pages to eat dinner with Tom Bombadil and listen to him tell a story.

    ...

this is also the difference between the movie and the books- battle took an hour, Tom was cut out entirely.

  • he is the most neutral superhero ive encountered... I love it!

  • I dont know if I am the only one, but I absolutely LOVED the chapter(s) about Tom Bombadil! He is such a mysterious yet powerful character and no one really knows who he is. It is up to the reader's imagination which is so great. Also when you read the chapters with Bombadil you just feel happy! He is such an awesome free spirited character!

  • @Dkayed85 When I was little I strove to grow up to be as beautiful a person as I found Tom Bombadil to be... he's still my favourite!

  • @Dkayed85 Tom Bombadil wasn't a bad character. Its just that he had nothing to do with anything. He would have been much better in a story that was actually about him.

  • I think this guy is the most powerful being on Middle Earth not Sauron...I don't care what the Wise say...how can they really be sure as he predates em all?

  • @omniexistus I agree. He's basically the god of the forest and older than anyone else on Middle Earth. He doesn't even have to use magic, he just talks/sings and the forest obeys him. If he wanted he could be the greatest king on the earth, but he has no interest in that kind of thing, and that's part of what makes him awesome!

  • How did the creator get a bunch 'o pictures of me?

  • Tom Bombadil should be in the film I'm amazed hes not.

  • @OliverCoAnimation me too, he is the oldest living thing in middle earth he should be

  • @OliverCoAnimation Really? It makes perfect sense why he's not in the movie.

  • @OliverCoAnimation He's to abstract.

  • I'm amazed that anyone could dislike Tom Bombadil.

  • I for one believe there is one 'fuck' Tom does give, and thats to his precious Goldberry. "Goldberry Waits' after all.

I found him a deeply fascinating character, he does care, he cares for the hobbits and he showed a true innocence at the same time. He was in an example what a true innocent and good creature is, not pressured by the world around him. He helped the hobbits and without him they would never had made it. He gave them something special... hope.

  • 16 people are barrowwights LOL

  • @Dkreegs

hell, im not a troll who's only life is just to prey on youtube commentors just because they like something that you dont

  • fuck everyone who writes youtube comments

  • 15 people got eaten by Old Man Willow

  • the character that ruined the first book...

  • @marvindeshark yellow boots, feathers in cap = Disney Character. Gandalf should have slapped the daft twat and told him to grasp the severity of the situation.

  • @DavrosTheGreatHealer I don't think you grasp how much of a fuck Tom Bombadil does not give. That's how Tolkien fantasy works. The more powerful the creature the less of a fuck it gives.

Here watch me count how many fucks Tom Bombadil gives...

  • @scrotumface333 Tom Bombadil's are confined to the forest he is in. I'm not saying he isn't powerful, though were Sauron to get the ring his world would be destroyed the same as everyone elses, his being a simple cunt annoys me.

  • @DavrosTheGreatHealer I don't think you understood my point about how much he does not give a fuck. Unless you fuck with his trees, he doesn't give a shit. Maybe if Sauron came up to his trees and went, "Hey Tom, fuck you" and then proceeded to penetrate the willows with his malice filled cock, THEN Tom might give a fuck. However until he does do that, Tom is to busy singing and fondling the sexiest woman alive who just happens to be his wife.

  • @scrotumface333 I know he doesn't give a fuck but that doesn;t make him a good character it just makes him a boring and annoying nusance who the book would be better without imo.

  • @DavrosTheGreatHealer And why is he annoying? Because he likes to laugh? Because he doesn't give a fuck? Come on, these are characteristics that made him a great character, with a deep philosophical meaning about morality: how thin the line between good and evil actually is, how corruption is possible etc. He gives everything a chance: he let the Old Man Willow be for example. He is, and let everything else be. He is completely happy, and guess why.

  • @MasterBombadillo He's annoying because I have just managed to survive the God awful pages describing Bilbo's birthday which is one of the worst openings of a book ever, and a few minutes of reading later I come face to face with a Walt Disney reject who as you say doesn't give a fuck. Which isn't a good thing in any way. I would have been so much happier if Tolkien had used Beorn again here as he is actually quite good in the Hobbit.

  • @DavrosTheGreatHealer It was quite a good opening in fact: instead of beginning with a dark opening, it was very cheerful: the ordinary life of a Hobbit. It made the impact of the Ring much greater than any other opening could do.

And don't refer to Bombadil as a Disney character: he isn't comparable to them in any way. The depth of his character is way too philosophical for Disney. And if you don't see the good things about Tom, do you actually want to think while reading?

  • @MasterBombadillo I understand that he is meant to be more than a Disney character but do not forget at the time of it's release LOTR was accepted universally as a childs book. All Tolkien wanted Tom to symbolise was a non existent protector for the English countryside which he viewed as being ruined by indutry (I agree) But he is so poorly presented I have no symathy for the charater. The decision to open the LOTR film series with the end of the Silmarillion was a brilliant directive choice.

  • @DavrosTheGreatHealer The Hobbit was accepted as a childs book, not LOTR. And Tolkien rewrote everything over and over again, so it's not just a childish character. He was presented in a way that fitted Bombadils character.

Also, Bombadil wasn't meant to be the protector of the English countryside, but the spirit. Also, Bombadil was more. He was intended to be something what Tolkien called a natural pacifist: one who doesn't take credit; to whom terms like good, evil and power are meaningless.

  • @MasterBombadillo Hahaha I think it best then that we should agree to disagree on the issue as we clearly at the poloar oposities of this argument :)

  • @scrotumface333 Since when is that the case in Tolkiens world? The whole point is just that the powerful actually want more power. Not only the bad guys, but also the good; they all want more power to accomplish what they want: why else do you think the Ring is so feared, even by the Wise?

But then there is Bombadil: the character that explains everything about not longing for power, no matter how powerful he is. He's perfectly happy, because he doesn't want a thing: he rather accepts.

  • Tom Bombadil simply walks into Mordor.

  • Tom got some fine Goldberry vaj! Why would he care about Middle Earth. He was NOBODY.

  • I have discussed this issue with many of my fellow Tolkien students, and none of them believes Tom is the mortal incarnation of Iluvatar, neither do they think that Tolkien would create a secondary character for himself, that Tom is in fact prof Tolkien himself.. my question then remains: who is he? I think.. but this is a wild guess, that Tom is one of the Valars, coming to live in Middle-Earth, to watch over all existence, and I think that Valar is Tulkas. (his laugh might be a clue)

  • @DemiathDoomhammer Bombadil is definitely not Iluvatar (no embodiment of him existed in ME, literally said in his letters).

Tolkien himself? No, he identified himself more with Hobbits. Bombadil was important to Tolkien, but it was definitely not him.

Of all the Valar, Tulkas may be one of the most unlikely: he enjoys fighting, where Bombadil don't: his power is his voice. Of all the Valar Aule may be the most applicable, yet the Silmarillion said the Valar seldom came to ME.

  • @DemiathDoomhammer So Bombadil stays what Tolkien wanted him to be: an enigma. Tolkien said in his letters even he didn't knew what Bombadil was. So we can only guess with the knowledge we won't know the answer, but like I've proven there are some possibilities that aren't possible.

  • @MasterBombadillo - hm, very intresting point, ok, I see what you mean, maybe it's not Tulkas afterall.. but then again, who is he? if not even prof Tolkien could provide us with an answer, who can? maybe Peter Jackson knows.. :-)

  • @DemiathDoomhammer Bombadil is an enigma: Tolkien said it, and thus it'll be that way, there is no way we will ever know the answer.

But there are two common theories that can fit in the lore: Bombadil is a Maia, or he is a nature spirit, yet we can't be sure off course.

And please, don't joke around like that. PJ already ruined LOTR, and he will ruin TH. Don't let him ruin my favourite character too. If you want to listen to someone, check forums based on Tolkiens writings.

  • @MasterBombadillo - you must be kidding, right? just because PJ didn't include your favourite character, TOM FUCKING BOMBADIL in the FOTR, doesn't mean that he "ruined" LOTR.. I mean, come on, the trilogy is considered to be one of the greatest achievements in the history of cinema.. but yeah, you maybe right on one thing, he's probably a Maia..

  • @DemiathDoomhammer No, I was glad he didn't include Bombadil (so he didn't ruin it. Yet, he ruined all the characters, from Frodo (in the movies a coward from the first minute), to Faramir (no explanation needed). He made some totally illogical additions (Elves at Helms Deep???). I talk for hours about PJ's flaws.

I'll not argue about whether or not it was a big cinematic achievement. I agree it was, yet it ruined the story, too many completely unnecessary changes to call it a good script.

  • @MasterBombadillo - you still don't get it, do you? Frodo was afraid because he had never left Shire before, and was now going to Mordor, it's completely understandable, and Faramir, you don't have to explain everything for the audience, they have something called brains, you know. And the elves at Helm's Deep? they defeated Sauron together, they fought side by side, it's not pretty far fetched to say they wanted to honour their friendship, the friendship between men and elves.

  • @DemiathDoomhammer I'm not talking about that kind of fear, but the kind of fear he showed at Weathertop. In the books, he stood up to the WK and struck him with his sword, while his companions couldn't do a thing. In the movies, they just made him crawl away.

In the books, Faramir was a very honourable man, he didn't want the Ring and let it go without doubt. Movie-wise, it was almost a second Boromir. And I could criticize almost every character. It was more like a parody.

  • @DemiathDoomhammer Elves at Helms Deep: look, don't even try to defend PJ on this point. In LOTR, it was the most illogical thing to do. Whole Middle-Earth was in war with Sauron on all fronts. The Elves didn't had the troops to send to rescue Rohan. Not to mention I don't know how they could possibly have gotten there is just a few days.

I'll tell you, the things I just said were examples for the things I criticize, so I can give a lot more if you want.

  • @MasterBombadillo - you can't expect one medium like books to be perfectly translated into another one like movies.. the way PJ wanted to tell the story, it made perfectly sense, he wanted all the free peoples of Middle-Earth to stand united against the shadow, it made it all more exciting, knowing that Sauron could not be defeated unless they unite. would you like the elves to be totally unconcerned? Saruman attacks Rohan? should we help.. nah, let's just sit in our trees and sing for awhile!

  • @DemiathDoomhammer Off course I didn't expect a perfect translation, yet I would've liked a version without the totally unnecessary changes.

At least he could do liek Tolkien in the books: let Gandalf tell what the other races did, or at Amon Hen let Frodo see the armies of Sauron march against all races. Now, it seems like the Dwarves didn't do a thing (so you're argument is perfectly countered). The Elves and Dwarves had to defend their own homelands: in the movies, not whole of ME is in war.

  • @DemiathDoomhammer And about what Bombadil was: we don't know. We can discuss about it, but he is and stays an enigma. Maybe he is something that doesn't fit in the story, maybe he is a Maia, maybe he is something else. All we can do is guess.

  • I want a film of Tom Bombadill

  • This song only gets more triumphant the further it gets into it.

  • Tom Bombadil is a pretty cool guy, eh frightens evil willow trees, pwns Barrow wights and doesn't afraid of anything.

  • One does not simply walk into Mordor...but Tom Bombadil skips!

  • auch wenn das lied auf englisch is es is trotzdem lol

  • Suddenly I was in fornt of teh School. In front of me wuz one of da sexiest goth guyz I had ever seen. He was wering long blak hair, kinda like Mikey Way only black. He had gren eyes like Billie Joe Amstrung and pale whit skin. He wuz wearing a blak ripped up suit wif Vans. It was…………………….Tom Bombodil!1111

    - My Immortal

  • I love this song, it makes me wish I could visit Tom in his forest. The real world just seems so dull :(

  • Most random chapter in a book ever.

  • @TheGojira84 i can't believe 48 idiots agreed with u

  • I love Tom Bomdadil. :D

  • Well im a huge lord of the rings nerd, read the silmarion and everythin' but, since the events of the third age took place 6000 years before christ im going to go ahead and say Tom Bombadil is the worlds first Pothead. DAry oh!

  • I wonder if we could all be masters of our own realms if we all lived in the spirit of tom instead of everyone trying to be masters of the world

  • Tom is supposed to be an incarnation if Iluvátar, Goldberry herself says that "He is", and the only thing without a beginning or an end is the supreme biblical deity.

  • @classmateofmine In his letters, Tolkien made absolutely clear there was no incarnation of Iluvatar on Arda. "He is" can mean so much more than you even consider. There are much theories about Bombadil, but only a two I know can be defended without contradicting Tolkien: Bombadil is a nature spirit, or he is a Maia.

  • @MasterBombadillo

Thank you for replying, I had no idea Tolkien wrote that in his letters. To me, that sounded like a logical explanation considering the fact that he is not mentioned in Silmarillion, even though some of the greater Maia were enlisted at some point in the book. But since I did not read Tolkien for some years now, my knowledge about Arda is a bit pale, so I could be wrong again.

  • @classmateofmine You're right about the fact he isn't mentioned in the Silmarillion. There are many Maiar, and Bombadil, for what he is, isn't exactly the most important one. His role in history is very, very small. Also, many of the most powerful Maiar remained unnamed and unknown. Yet, Bombadil is described as a enigma, so we can only guess and argue about what he is, as long it doesn't contradict the things Tolkien wrote.

"He is" is a sentence with a deep philosophical character.

  • Tom Bombadil he is my favourite character in the LOTR Book.

  • I always think of John Goodman when I read about Tom Bombadil..

  • i could beat tom bombadil in an arm wrestling contest.

  • beautifull song *****

  • Kind of nostalgic. I remember rainy days when I was readind LOTR and Silmarilion and was amazed by Tom Bombadil wondering, who is he? Indescribable feeling of mystery, power, wisdom..really really curious about unravelment which never came. And the best thing, now, when Now, When I Grow Up, the feeling is still there :) Thanks John.

  • Greatest mystery of the Lord of the Rings is Bombadil. How powerful was he?

  • @Trajan3876 he had unlimited power inside his realm

  • Before Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee it was Tom Bombadil........:):):)

  • @217Alexandru And before him, there was Tolkien *-*

  • the oldest being in middle earth

  • I love so much this song!

  • after hearing this i have come to a grand conclusion.....Tom Bombadil is Ian Anderson!!!

  • If you guys want to see Tom Bombadil in very old movie, check movie called "Hobitit" (Its Finnish and means The Hobbits) Its about The Lord of the Rings and even Peter Jackson was inspired by it. Its here in youtube and subbed in English!

  • it's basically canon that this retard tom bombadil is god, since tolkein himself refers to him as the 'eldest'. now, i'm not english professor, but 'eldest' means elder of all from what i understand.

  • @lordteapot Watch Tom come after yee.

  • @lordteapot he also at one point says that he was there before the Dark Lord came. He never specifically says who the Dark Lord is but there are really only two people that it could be: Melkor and Sauron. If he means Melkor then that means he was there at the creation of Ardor since Melkor was the first person through the Void which would make him pretty bad ass. If he means Sauron then he is probably one of the more powerful Ainur that came into Ardor first. Either way he is basically god, yes.

  • i try 2 talk 2 im on lotro but he b dancing away

  • Where does this art come from? I've been looking all over for LOTR fan art that's not related to the films.

  • first I was very disappointed to hear that Tom Bombadil wouldn't appear in the movie, but then I realised it would just slow down the story, and his presence is not necessary, after all he's immune to the Ring, which is quite bad for Sauron, but I always thought John Goodman could've played him..

  • where did you get the maps of his house at the beginning?

  • it brings me back good memories :)

  • Crabs..what wouldnt i give for another Tolkien-based movie..

  • @esquiloassasino The Hobbit is being made.

  • @Iamahatify Holy s* im definetely watching it...in the first day.

  • not me i think hes funny

  • Im glad they left him out of the movie

  • @Lighningbreaker Why? He's amazing!

  • @giglingfoosm Well, I was 11 when I first read the book, so recently I thought "Okay, I didn't like him because I probably didn't get it because I was I wasn't an active reader." Well, it's been nearly 9 years and I read all the time now. Well I found out that Tom Bombadil actually annoys me. I'm just happy that part was out entirely. You can never have a book that is JUST like the movie. Lord of the Rings was as close as an adaption could get.

  • @Lighningbreaker - more like you can never have a movie JUST like the book - and you're right - in jackson's adaptation Bombadil would have been out of place

  • how did 12 people dislike this tom bombadill is the best person in probably all of the lord of the rings

  • @fiveconoredbox 12 people don't know that Tom is the master.

  • I love this! Tom is like the Santa Claus of Middle-Earth.

  • Tom Bombadil by far the oldest and wisest of the humans, much oler and wiser then Sauron himself, the embodiment of the land and life it self, prone to drinking and random spurts of singing and dancing

    -The Children of Hurin

    A very beautiful song!!

  • @strongarmeric

    I don't think he's human, love ;)

  • @ambereyes93 Well i was quoting the book so take that up with the Author who is dead XD, and Tom Bombadil is never actually defined as what type of being he is, only that he was around before the first leaf and acorn, and before Melkor Aka Morgoth came from outside the world, that he was slightly smaller then a human but bigger then a dwarf or halfling, and that in his realm his powers are limitless, and in so being could smite all of Mordor single handedly if it was in his realm!!

  • i love this, cant wait till i go on my own adventure........ :)

  • I think he Would be able to defeat sauron :-)

  • @XrandomkX He wasn't into fighting but yeah thats true :D

  • tom bombadill is so awsome ^^ but what is he? tolkien never explains anything more about him^^ he must be a minor powerfull maiar just like gandalf and the other wizards?

  • @Wertyl1 some believe that he is illuvatar/erou himself

  • @Wertyl1 Tolkien: ''And even in a mythical Age there must be some enigmas, as there always are. Tom Bombadil is one (intentionally).''

  • @Wertyl1 he is actually much more powerful than Gandalf and Sauron. but you're right... nothing much is explained about him. i guess he's like the spirit of the world or something like that.

  • @Wertyl1 there is a Quote above from one of Tolkiens books above that i posted awhile ago and its a description of him from the point of view of a Man i think but the character obviously has no idea what Tom is as he refers to him as a "human" which is kinda funny Lol!!

  • 1:37 is pretty much how i always pictured him,

as an awesome crazy hippie wise-man

  • tom bombadil is one of the most fascinating characters in middle earth as no one can say what exactly he is .within the domain of his forest he is trully invicible, the ring has no effect to him at all.what is most believed is that he is the incarnation of Earth bound forever to her.According to his statements he was the first being to set foot on Arda even before the valar'sarrival.

  • Tom Bombadil is actually the only character in the universe who could fight Chuck Norris!

  • @samysnes chuck norris is a fagget karate guy

  • @samysnes Bruce lee can..

  • @samysnes def!

  • @samysnes hahaha seriously the only

  • tom bombadils power level is well over 9000

  • Tom Bombadil always makes smile! He is so jolly!

  • tomy makes me veel fuzzy inside

  • When I read the book the only thing I wished was to stay in Tom´s house forever, because I felt in love with Goldberry :)

  • I love it ! :)

  • god i love this song ! i'm like always listening to it. really makes me relaxed.

  • oh! this song is wonderful! , I am Italian, and I'm very happy to see that the translation in Italian (which I read the book in the fellowship of the ring) is faithful to the original!

  • tom would pwn sauron easily =P

  • Tom Bombadil looks like a psychopath at 1:40

  • I think he is in the order of the Maiar, and he is a Greater Maiar. Sauron, Gandalf, and Saruman are all lesser Maiars. He cannot be of the Valars though, since they were brought back to eternity by the One (god), and disappeared from Middle Earth.

  • i have always wondered is Tom Bombadil a Valar or Maiar or is he something completely diffrent

  • @deathblade111 there is a lot of discusssion about that and the main conclusion is that we dont know. Tolkien even said he was an enigma!

  • If Chuck Norris and God had a child together, the result would be Tom Bombadil.

  • @AnAverageGom perfect COMBO!!!

  • I'm so glad Tom Bombadil was totally ignored by Peter Jackson.

  • i'm at the part of tom bombadil atm in my book

  • If i remember well he was a maia and a very powerfull one probably oldest and mightiest being in middlearth and i think he could kick Saurons ass.

  • my best friend tom is just like this so happy and carefree like a child but also hes nails XD

  • Bright blue his jacket is, and his boots are yellow.

  • what a charismatic voice.

  • a wonderful song!

  • Great song!

  • Lol i imagined Tom Bombadil as a sort of dwarf:P

  • @KlausDigestive

actually he belongs to none of middleearth's cultures, but his pysical body is a bit like a dwarf, indeed he's still something special in this world xD

  • TOMS A LEGEND

  • ExSeptentrione: Thanks for information:D:D I thought that Tom in both songs is still the same:D:D

  • It is very beautiful, but I don't know that the mistake made you or Tolkien Ensemble, beacuse there is not only Tom Bombadil's song, from 1:55 there is Sam's song about troll and Tom...=)

  • Yes, and this Tom is a different person. ;)

  • I know that the other music is the song about the trolls... But it's seemed good for this so...

  • @EllethwenEldarwen actually the troll song was first published in "the adventures of tom bombadil" so technically it is a tom bombadil song :D

  • @stjanki And Sam Gamgee was probably inspired by Bombadil when he wrote it.

  • What´s that thing at 2:15 ???

  • @Matakshaman

    I'ts Barrow Wight.

  • absolutely no one is cooler then Tom

  • i love the bits with Tom but it doesnt serve to to movie the story along that much, also the ring has no affect over him as he has no affect over it, this was another reason to take it out because people are to fragile and cant handle a little bit of abnormal reactions to the ring or they go crazy and eat their shoes 0_o

  • who is the performer of this song?

  • @lonelyqueen86 Tolkien Ensemble

  • TOM BOMBADIL!! :D He could kick Edward Cullen's little sparkly arse!!

  • @ambereyes93 MEGA like

  • morgoth ain't got shit on tom bombadil 8D

  • its a nice thought, but morgoth is a Vala, Tom is at best a primeval misplaced Maiar but he is nonetheless a most fascinating character
