I've never tried to get "out there" but I know a lot of people are picked up from doing gigs at cafes, restaurants, bars, hell, even a comedy spot would be good for you, you've got a lot of good material. I'd say, just get out there. If you see a place you'd like to perform at, grab your guitar, have some printed out lyrics with you so you don't mess up your lines while playing :P and go for it! in my opinion, go to Oak Island, North Carolina. it's next to wilmington. LA is filled with bad record labels filled with greed and whatnot. Oak island (which I have an aunt who lives there) is a nice historic island with lots of seafood restaraunts with live music. I love the musicians that play down there. there are a lot of them that get record labels as well. all without the putrid carbon monoxide infested air of LA. trust me, it's worth it.

I won't tell you what you're doing is wrong, but your taking a bad route. Sow seeds in LA first, don't think you'll get there and magically you'll slip into your new life. The reality is you'll be very alone and perhaps even incapable of supporting yourself. I like the enthusiasm, but even the best plans forged from the flames of passion need logical thoughts behind them. Just do it doesn't work, "Just find a way to do it" works much better.
