Why do I never hear them on tv? Id be freaking out telling everyone HEY THATS MY FAVORITE BAND!!!! At least I got to show em their appearance on Yo Gabba Gabba. WOOT.
In this age of mp3's and questionable downloads, it can be extremely hard for a band to find moderate financial success. I heard that Kevin bought a new stage with the Outback money. Good for him. And believe me, I'll NEVER eat at fuckin' Outback!!!
Don't you understand that they're using the MAN to undermine HIM? Their performance art is brilliant, their music and lyrics are more subversive than ever. All they did was take a shitwad of money for 30 seconds of music to allow them to continue their creativity.
@adramatictheme yea at least outback and t mobile provide a service to people, however terrible their parent corporations are... but the stock market is basically a rigged lottery. not simply content with taking every last bit of wealth away from the poor, the ultra rich even found a way to squeeze a couple more bucks out of the middle and upper classes...
i just gotta remind myself that capitalism makes a whore of us all...
You're right. We've been so obsessed for so long with "staying indie" that now the most "punk rock" thing to do is to sell out on purpose, loudly, publicly, and with a mischievous grin...
I've known Kevin's sister for years, and it has taken of Montreal at least 15 years to get where they are today. Kevin's made a lot of sacrifices. Some people see indie musicians doing commercials as "selling out". I see it as survival! As a parent of a kid in an indie-pop band, Afternoon Naps, I can tell you that these musicians can barely make it financially due to the part-time and flexible hours they need to be available to do shows or tour.
thank you. for once someone sees it for what it is. of Montreal has been a long time in the making and they're FINALLY reaching new plateaus in terms of mainstream popularity. Instead of whining about selling out, support the great band that you've been supporting! If you want to distanciate yourselves from new fans just say you've been around before the Outback commercial lol
most people won't even care who sings the song, only people who truly like their kind of music will care and know that the ad is by of montreal, they arent gonna become the next "maintstream" hit, their music hasn't changed
the band just needs money, and some listeners out there who wouldn't have found them any other way
although i hate outback's choice of lyrics on "wraith", it doesn't make any sense haha
actually, their sound has changed, but certainly not to be more popular, but listening to Cherry Peel and the Skeletal Lamping, you can barely recognize the band.
but i don't feel that the music fits properly with the action of the commerical, however i think its fun when someone asks me who they are if they see it on my ipod and i answer "they are the band from the outback commercial" chances are, they won't go research them, or care(even though thats what i did, i heard the jingle and immediately found them)
It's one thing for a band to let people use their music for commercials, I understand like this but if from The Dead Kennedys or Tay Zonday. Then no, the songs have real political meanings and should be kept like it.

I love of montreal but I FUCKING DESPISE NASDAQ. they've lost me thousands of dollars and how fucking DARE you stick up for them. I hate hipsters. what the fuck do you suppose i do about this situation?
I'm not seeing in my comment where I stood up for NASDAQ. But on the other hand, I don't really care how much THEY lost you, especially when i'm sure it wasn't "them" really, as a collective.
I don't know why people are so upset over this. These guys deserve to make a living off the great music they write. It's selfish to want that music to only be available to you & your indie friends. My friends and I have been fans for years, and we're glad they're finally getting some dollars from being such a great band. It's their decision to market themselves.
you indie fucks are retarded...if you don't understand that it is just FUNNY to have Of Montreal's music in random advertisements than you have no sense of humor whatsoever...

Everyday we sell-out baby....
Sorry, but it's not like Of Montreal were starving to death. I'm not sure which is more sad, shilling for a bunch of Reaganite bankers or for an upscale McDonalds. It's not even so much the advertising itself, it's whom they're advertising *for.*
Get the fuck over it! It's not like they belong to some big record company now and even if they did, who cares if one of their songs is featured in a commercial? They have way more songs which I even dare say are better than this. This commercial is forgettable, their songs in general aren't. If you have such a big problem with them being "sell-outs" then stop listening to them. Oh and stopping the whinnying would be appreciated too.
If I had a child and then someone offered me a bunch of money to use a song in an ad, I'd say yes. If it annoyed a bunch of indie dicks in the process, then fucking A all round.
hmmm Of Montreal is amazing... this commercial...not so much ... hahaha anyway Of montreal is the best indie band out there. it used to be modest mouse untill they got signed to epic and the producers screwed up their sounds...fags
I heard that Kevin has bought a lot of equipment, such as a field recorder, for work on the next album. Also, the stage show is a little bit more complex. The Heimdalsgate video was self-made and pretty well done with all of the props and things. And also at the show, they've got those monitors and things up now. I know it doesn't seem like they spent half a million on the stage show of this tour, because they didn't...but it helped the band out alot.
In any case, it's hard out there for a recording artist with a wife and a kid, so take every chance you get, I say. It's not like us indie types watch a lot of tv with NASDAQ and Outback commercials anyway.
ps: wait never mind, i am mistaken- the song used in that Outback commercial is "Wraith Pinned to the Mist and Other Games". and this song here is, well, "Everyday Feels Like Sunday" on The Sunlandic Twins Bonus EP.
This commerical came out when the market was doing well, now this kind of upbeat songs can not be found.
