This was my song in high school and still one of my favorites. Although crudely produced by today's standards, it has an energy rarely found in any music
Lovely. Lovely. Lovely. This song exists as a part of my earliest pop awakenings. Part of the gestalt, if you will... The squealing horns are the key element for me.
awesome song!loved it when i got a copy of song in 1975.replaced it in 1990 when the 45 was wearing out.an a+ hit.do today's music get an A+? not many in the pop music(if any at all).
Summer of '66 we'd be driving around on hot nights with songs like this on the radio turned up as loud as it would go, a carful of us crazy kids singing along at the top of our lungs... It was fun.
Oh, SportsnutIM, now you've gone too far. TV in the 60s was no better than the drivel we get 50 years later -- Only the producers and writers couldn't get away with the junk that the current crop does.
I used to listen to this song on WKNR Keener 1300 and WKFR Keener 1400 in Michigan -- great boogie music!
I wonder if this song was written in response to the 1950s ballad, "(If it takes forever,) I will wait for you."
First time I discovered this song was in the sound track of Time Cop. I love this song and there are so many versions of it. But definitely this is my favorite and it was nice to hear it after all those years. I wonder if this is the original because the others didn't have the same complete orchestra sound.
@whopfrog2 a radio hit a lot of airplay but nobody bought it like black is black who would buy this record it it annoying listen to gene pitneys version its funny
This is the original. It came out in the spring of 1967. I was just home from Vietnam and they appeared in a Rock'n'Rroll show at the kentucky State Fair I attended. All the orchestration was missing from the "live" performance of course.
It's 6:17 on WKYC with your leeeeeader Jackson Armstrong, Tommy King and Sonny Geraci's Outsiders fifth week in a row at number #1 .... one of the very best of all time.
@rogerrrubin I got a very weird question, one that requires imagination. take a look at the swirling capitol logo, does the orange and yellow remind you of grilled cheese and tomato soup?
Back in the old days of KRTH-FM in Los Angeles, when they played a mix of currents and oldies, this used to be a great top of the hour ID record. Sounded killer coming out of the top of the hour ID. Still one of my 3 all time favorite records.

On this date in 1966 {Feb. 19th} "Time Won't Let Me" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100; eventually it peaked at #5 and spent 15 weeks in the Top 100...
Ranked 42nd on Billboard's Year-End Hot 100 Singles of 1966 chart...
Was the groups debut record on the charts and their only entry into the Top 10...

Great, great song. I had the privilage of living the "60's". What a great era for music and TV but I would miss the remote control. LOL

One of my all-time favorites! When they recorded this, the core musicians were there. The brass instruments were layered over later.

What a tune! I've had this on vinyl for about 20 years but couldn't play. Finally managed to track it down on CD

I'd rather listen to classic music like this one and others than watch TV.

@SPORTSNUTIM Same here. TV was a lot better in the 60's too, even though there weren't many channels or remote controls.
whopfrog2 1 year ago 6
@whopfrog2 They had remote controls on the really expensive tv's, especially Zenith color floor models.
