this is one of the most beautiful brasilian fish, but I just want to remind these fish are very endangered in the natural habitat. Here in Brasil it`s illegal to have or commercialize them. When buying them make sure you`re buying one that comes from breeding and not collected in the wild.

America is soooo lucky, they are allowed almost ANY fish they're allowed Red tail Catfish, Zebra Pleco's and Australia's gov doesn't allow them, you find a colony of zebra pleco's here at 4cm and 6 fish it would cost $4000+ It's bullsh*t man ahaha.

@PlecoMadness : Americans can't have Arrowanas, Snakeheads, or any kind of omnivorous fish that is able to take over ponds, lakes, rivers, etc

That being said, I am sure you could find some sort of black market for your fish needs, if Americans can **still** find ways to buy "illegal" fish, you should be able to get the fish you want in Australia

When they first came out they were only $39.00 in Houston, Texas for a large one. But when the European market discovered them their demand took the price to $500. They're expensive because they are one of the best fish water fish of all time. They have a personality like no other pleco. But, they die easily with large water changes.

@TheGwilli They're not expensive because of the European market they're expensive because a dam was built in the Xingu river where these plecos are from and pretty much they are becoming endangered. I think Brazil actually banned the export of them too.

catfish breeding is EXTREMELY hard.

i havea cross Catfish with i think it was a black albino and a other type of white catfish...

Hillstream loach, as lester said above. Would be perfect tank mates if it wasn't for the complete opposite temperature preference from L046. Wouldn't recommend keeping them together.

Yo i swear to god im going to buy a few of these from time to time. And when I breed them Im going to sell them cheaper than everybody else. Then all zebra breeders will have to drop their price because nobody will buy from them. It will start a chain reaction. Its been done before. Ill sell them things for $100 bucks a piece. yea thats the sucky thing about it. They take so long. Plus you dont want to inter breed, cause they will have birth defects. Thats why you should partner up with someone else that has their own zebras and every now and then trade zebras so you dont interbreed too much.

Zebra plecos should be kept in a species tank for breeding purposes. You can add some other small fish, but it's really not very worth it.
