@farneyblakeley Some time ago Cousins did a series called Screen Scene. This contained two abortive interviews with Quentin Tarantino and the late Rod Steiger. He tried to tell Steiger what his best film was and to say Steiger was annoyed is an understatement. He then tried to tell Tarantino what his films were about and got a faceful, after which the show got pulled. Unfortunately he does'nt think for himself, just regurgitates what he has read about films in books, so he brings it on himself.
@2001perseus I had a feeling someone would say something like that. I haven't seen him in anything else but he didn't seem too annoying here. Maybe that's just because Marty is so amicable.
@farneyblakeley Nothing wrong with you having a sympathetic side, hey who knows maybe he'll turn into a top director himself one day, but if he's going to interview people of that stature he really needs to understand that it's about what they have to say not what he's read somewhere or what he thinks. Eg. saying what your favourite movie of theirs is, fine. Telling them what their best movie is? Ouch! Unfortunately he does tend to do that.
@2001perseus yeah, i've never heard of this cousins guy before... but watching this interview it has made me question some of the things he's asked. i guess, scorsese is just too nice to even care... i am however enjoying scorsese speak.
at first i was really ticked at Cousins's interview style... self-indulgent as it is, i do believe he's able to touch at some deep points in Scorsese's coversation because of that self-indulgence and his own personal connection to the films... i mean as annoying as he is, he still got a pretty good interview and asked some very specific and evocative questions... he shouldn't cut Scorsese off quite as much though!
Scorsese's knowledge of films is ridiculous. How he can just allude to specific scenes in other movies at the drop of the hat shows not only a real love for film but a remarkable memory.
Because of the attitudes of people like Hienrichzwei, MackTheKnife12 and starsdowntoearth we are witnessing the death of serious film criticism, and if you can't see the deliberate provocation of Cousins for what it is, then it is better that we embrace a future of E-Entertainment-style cinema punditry asking only the most comfortable of questions; what is this movie about, when is it realised, who's in it, how much did it cost, how much will it make, etc, etc...
If you don't recognise this as one of the most significant interviews with a filmmaker ever recorded, then quite frankly you have no passion for cinema. If you disagree then name me at least four alternatives that come anywhere near the level of this.
why give this interviewer a hard time Scorsese and he seem to be on the same wavelength. You want to see a shit interviewer watch a Larry King clip

@astralweeks88 ... There's nothing provokating in the questions... just lack of talent (listening) and out of control excitation (cocksuckiness)
