  • Well it really doesn't matter now, because I'm going to send it back anyway. .....and I'm a girl... but it's cool! LOL :)

  • Oh well - better luck next time - on the kalimba. -M

  • How do you tune a homemade kalimba from ebay??? i think it's homemade. It's legit but i don't know how to tune one. I looked at your vid. on how to tune but It's not the same....

  • Dude, I don't know! I can help you tune any of the kalimbas I sell (they are all tunable). Some kalimbas have tines held in place in a manner that does not permit tuning (yes, its stupid).

How are the tines held in place?

  • Beautiful.

  • stop talk and just play

  • Please ignore the negative comment. This is exactly the sort of demonstration I was looking for. A friend brought me a 7 note Kalimba from Bali, Indonesia. I had heard a traditional mbira being played but knew nothing else about the instrument. Your advice, especially in this little video, was a great introduction to the intuitive approach.

  • Sounds like you know your stuff. I'm planning on getting one today

  • Very unprofessional and unprepared.

  • Better than any video you've done, Pill.

  • @kalimbamagic I bought one of your Kalimbas a few years ago and I've loved it to death ever since. It has become one of my most valued possessions. Keep up the beautiful work :D

  • PS: in 3 years, 70 videos, and thousands of comments, I think this is the first negative comment I've ever gotten. Sure, the kalimba is not centered in the field, but that's who I am - one person doing all this work by myself, and sometimes things are less than perfect, and that's just fine. I would take exception to the "unprepared" comment - watching the video again, I said exactly what I meant to say. -Mark

  • @schilpill23 your just an asshole, sir.

  • where would you find the metal part for the Kalimba if you were to make one?

  • really amazing, I'm gonna buy one ^^

  • I like this kalimba alot. i wish i had it. i'm still looking for one. any suggestions? thanks

  • I don't sell any kalimbas just like this,

but look at the Gourd-mounted Catania

kalimbas or the Goshen Kalimbas (they are hard

    to get). -Mark

  • I've looked at them none compare to this. this is classic. What kind of wood are kalimbas generally made of? If theres lots, then what kind do you suggest is the best?

Sorry about all the questions, i'm just really interested. If i'm mostly going to be playing one in the open air would you suggest a box kalimba rather than a board? because as i mentioned in my message, i'm interested in the hugh tracy 8-note kalimba, an i listened to the sound file and it sounded loud enough. thanks again

  • well I just bought a box kalimba on the internet from a website called dulcimershofar

  • They are much different than gourd ones. I ended up buying a ukulele instead of a kalimba anyways, lol. Thanks for the input though. I hope you are enjoying your kalimba

  • ok ukuleles are kool too. I only bought the kalimba so I could still practice playing music even when i travel. I play electric guitar, so this should help me. A ukulele would be good for that too.

  • Haha, that's EXACTLY why I was going to get one and why I got a ukulele cause its also compact.

I play drums and I certainly can't bring them with me. So I needed another musical outlet

  • haha thats kool!

  • the kalimba reminds me of zelda's lullaby from ocarina of time

  • always inspiring Mark :0)

  • your nuts...in a good way!

    home and away sides?

speedy thumbs...i'm going to have to put mine in training
