@Clarky1966:New Order come directly out of the "new wave", they were Joy Division before Ian Curtis committed suicide in April 1980. The electronic elements were already partly there in their work with Joy Division - Bernie Sumner -who´s got lots of humor compared to you, admitted that"Blue Monday"was a cheeky rip-off from Sylvester´s"You make me feel mighty real"...only more"primitive".Some musical structures of Joy Division were never given up inside New Order.Regret was edited in 1993.
The song really got better when the second guitar live was added, but it will always be Hook's show. Yes the singing was never too good and the lyrics often a bit embarrassing, but this track will survive
The reason New Order have lasted so long was because they are very talented musicians that enjoy what they do, it's more than clear in this footage that the whole group had a ball playing this show, great stuff.
He never needed that great voice to achieve success...for those who consider that he need more, please compose a song, make the arrangements, go to a studio, record that shit, put it in a format, sell it and wait to see if people will follow you as millions have made with him...
@thewantonhussy I have seen New Order live several times, in fact. His stage presencerevolved mostly around the ability to do handstands. They were,. at one point, my favourite band. In retrospect, however:
I like this shorter 'cut down' version. Prob' my 3rd favorite N.O. song behind Crystal and the New Order version of Ceremony. I love the JD version with Ian's vocals just as much.
@MrShane82 I liked this song ever since it came out. I always thought the bass parts were a guitar and, what I'm guessing is a synth, was the bass. You'll have to hear it on a stereo with a good low end response to hear/feel the synth or whatever it is.
PS, I don't think you can begin to compare Metallica to New Order. That's like comparing an ultimate fighter and a runway model. Two totally different genres.
Esta música me lembro bem dela, em 1993, tinha apenas 14 anos, esta guitarra e os vocais, são perfeitos, isto tem um efeito maior quando se é um adolescente, dos anos 90...
I love New Order's songs (especially "Age of Consent" and "Bizarre Love Triangle") but they sure needed a more distinctive vocalist. This guy's voice is weak as water.
Although, I disagree with the comment about this being the last fine song New Order ever wrote. I thought Get Ready was a pretty good album and it's from this century...
No man, I´m dead serious!!! Aqua (of Barbie Girl fame) and Eiffel 65 (remember Blue dabadedabada?) round up the top 3. Such classics, why can´t music be like that anymore???
Possibly because it's a powerfully honest, sad song. And when you can't be any sadder than you already are - the only way is up. It presents the possibility, the option of being better, happier. The realisation that you are hurting makes it possible to heal.
It's so nice on an afternoon, to put on one of their CD's and just let it play for an hour or so. You'll see that everyone nearby will just nicely and calmly listening. They create this nice flowy suave, yet upbeat, psychy...
They're not overly manic, or depressing, just nicely running along. If you were going or a long jog, you could play this music.
It's hard to explain, music is different things to different people.
One of my favourite New Order tracks. They have come a long way since their gloomy Joy Division-like debut Movement. Sirens was one of their best albums. Too bad they split up!
LOL if you will notice, Cunningham was not playing the synth-he's on the guitar. Must be either connected to a guitar synth such as a Roland, or midi'd up someway to his keys. Interesting.
I've cried many times to this song. It makes me think about moving out on my own for the first time, and starting to live life.

@Clarky1966 new wave-rock music began in 1978, and it continued during the 1980s, 1990s
an still 2000s as neo new wave
during 1980s new wave derived in techno wave (electronic new wave), new romantic (new wave soul/funk), dark wave and cold wave
new order is new wave but is also new wave disco/dance (bizarre love triangle)
