I like your tutorials, but i got a problem with the hanging in the cat position: my feet always slip away. perhaps you could give a tip a to avoid that? would be nice
Hello I am Brazilian and I see the classes is still more difficult to understand because they do not know much of English I am using the translator to write
Olá eu sou brasileiro e vejo as aulas mais mesmo assim é dificil de entender porque não sei muito de ingles estou usando o tradutor para escrever
I did this at my high school in the gym to get a basketball from the folding bleacher things and got down by jumping off and landing in a roll. My teacher looked scared and yelled when I jumped and it was awesome.
@PkYamYam I don't understand why you people take things so seariously. Allways something. Some people complain about misspellings, some about the lack of music in my tutorial and some about gloves in parkour. When I filmed this tutorial I had trained for two hours and my hands were sore. Then I started to film my climb-ups and did propably around 100 of them in the process. So I wore gloves to protect my allready broken skin.
@PkYamYam (...continues....) 30 000 children die everyday for starvation. Where do you find your energy to write a comment about GLOVES. I usually don't use gloves when I do parkour. But how does it make one a worse person or anything even if you wore them all the time???
@ultima125 Usually people have a better and a worse side with everything. For example in speedvault I prefer to place my left hand on the wall though I'm right handed. So everything is usually easier on one side but I don't think that in parkour it has much to do with which handed you are. More will effect your legs. If you can't jump with your weaker leg from running, you might have to adjust your steps while running to takeoff with your strong leg.
Is it bad on the fingers and the ligaments to do the "fingers only" cat leap? Cuz I mean I don't feel pain, or am uncomfortable doing it.. Just heard that it is really hard on your fingers supporting half your weight (other half should be supported by your legs)
Hey i have a question for someone im 16 and u have been doing this for almost a year and we got these sheds at school and i try to jump across them but i alwasys slid off and way i coild do it and not slid off????
@Rickyboyke You might be having the problem I had, I didn't know at the time but it turned out that I had poor finger strength. It is important to build that up to go along with the technique of thepushing from your feet shown in this video, try looking for finger strength tutorials on youtube, or you can wait for me to put out a tutorial for it, if you want me to just let me know :)
I have a question, for the 2.3 technique, you forgot to mention how should we kick the wall. upwards or away from the wall like the first technique? just want a confirmation. thanks alot btw with this tutorial!!
ok so im going to try this...any tipes? and i cant remember have of what u said in the vid...but ill try to remember most of it. (and the wall im climbing dosnt alowe me to do the first one where i put my hands on the the entire wall....so im left with style 2.)
@Hurjapaa83 I don't know why I can't do this too, ok so I hang down and when I do I try to explode up, I do but I get up like a pull up, that's it :/ , any help?
@jeyjay023 So was it so that you can do the version 1 and version 2,1 climb-ups? Are you able to do a clapping pull-up on a bar? The 2,2 and 2,3 techniques requires a much faster pull-up because you need time to shift your palms and elbows.
@Hurjapaa83 I can't do clap pull ups, well I never attempted them. but I now can do version 1 and version 2.1 , but now I'm practicing on 2.2 and 2.3 , I can almost do 2.2 but I definently can't do 2.3 lol
@sleezzskater Hopefully smart people will understand what I mean even with my awful english. The tutorial is supposed to be about climb-up NOT about english language so I hope you can get over this mistake of few letters.
is it normal that when i try to do the easiest technique ( 2.1 ) I can't enough push up with my legs to put my palm on the top of the wall ( im 12 years old so maybe I haven't got enought muscles?)
@FKOrangina Most of the power should come from the pull-up, not from your feet. If you can do one pull-up on a bar, you should be able to do the 2.1 technique
Nice and comprehensive tutorial, altough I can't seem to understand why some people insist on using gloves while training.
Since the gloves protect your hands (duh :D) your skin isn't able to adapt itself to scratches, cuts et cetera, and you will have a hard time tracing (running) without them. Just an advice: train without any hand protectors. Sure, it is harder in the beginning, but you will find it very rewarding after a couple months of training :)
@TheMercer47 Thank U. There has been comments here about using gloves before. I use them usually after my skin is cut and it helps the healing prosess. Another choice would be resting but I sometimes don't have the patience to just wait :) Some people have said that they have jobs or other hobbies which require ''nice'' hands so they have to use gloves all the time when doing something that has a risk of ripping the skin off.
@TheMercer47 My training changes a lot all the time. I have been in a sports academy for 2 years now (1 year left to go) and all my personal training is affected by what we do at school. At wintertime I try to do gymtraining 2-3 x/week (also kettlebell). Jogging in the mornings 4-5 x/week. Some wrestling or boxing or something 2 x/week + Everything we do at school. At summertime parkour and all kinds of conditioning as much as I have time. Also I try to do some MovNat type of training.

@uffy4 You probably fall backwards because you are pushing too much with your legs. This is the most common reason for falling backwards. Use the leg to do the kneekick upwards. Don't do any kicking against the wall. The pull-up has to be fast. A lot faster than in 2.1
@PrOtOtYpEaPoCoLyPsE Take a look of my video: parkour tutorial - strength training for climb-up
The thing is that I allready had a pretty good strength when I began to train parkour. But check out the video in the link and strengthen your legs and body control also.
hi nice and complete video, i do parkour to and this has help me so much, thanks, wow i gonna have 1 year doing parkour and i now to do cat leap by this video, thanks so much!¡!¡!
everyone parkour is much easier then you would think....just learn how to land and the right way to jump and put all your effort into everything until you do it...thumbs up if you think im right
Haha! I saw this video and favorited it about 6 months ago. Back then I could only do version 1. But about 1 month ago after much training a was finally able to do 2.2, and yesterday I accomplished my goal of 2.3! Thank you for your help.
@JErkyKev when you say that, it is just a matter of developing the necessary upper body strength. While the 'using the forearms' technique looks simple, it is actually a milestone when it comes to being able to get over a wall. Even at the level I am at as far as parkour goes, I already know that the first technique does not require that much technique, just lots of strength.
@INEParkour I'ts ok. To your question about hurting your wrists. The vers1 is only doable with wall that is thin enough so your wrists don't hit the edge. Also usually used when doing a descendin cat leap. Also sometimes some people jump to vers2 cat position and switch the grip to vers1 in the middle of the climb-up. You can see the grip change in my video: parkour tic tac to cat & tic tac backside turn to cat
Nice tutorial. But if you do the cat and grab the back of the wall wouldnt that hurt your wrists. If the wall is very high and you cat it but your fingers are on the front(opposite of your demonstration) how would you go from there to do a wall up or climb up
@justlookatthattree If the wall is too high to do a cat leap (jumping to the wall) then you need to do a wallrun technique to reach to the top. After the wallrun you just have to lift your legs up to make the cat position.
In the description this guy is saying that much people can do it better. I DONT THINK SO. I thik you are exept ryan doyle an danny ilabacca THE BEST GUY WHO CAN DO THIS
this is awesome thank you very much, been trying hard to get the version 2 climbs for a while now, I can do 2.1 but I wasnt thinking about using my knee to provide upward momentum for the 2.3. this is going to help a lot
@TheJohnnybeez The faster you do the techniques the less time there is to slip. Explosiveness is important, with the leg push and the pull of the arms.
@Meauple The most important thing is the explosiveness of your pull-up. When practising pull-ups try to pull as fast as you can and then descend slowly.
Figured it out : ) It was the pushing off the wall thing. I manged to pull one off today (proud!) but couldn't do it again. More strength training, more practice, I'll be nailing em like a pro B)
Oh boy. I've been trying the last one for ages now, and I've built up the strength to do it, and I flick my body up well now, I just can't shift my momentum forwards to get on top of the wall. My body just goes straight up and straight back down again. I end up in the same position as at 8:40, except my upper body is vertical, and I'm not sure howq to get it forward. Any ideas?
@Murfylaw That sounds a bit tricky. Is the 2.2 version easy for you? I'm just wondering that how do you pull up differently in 2.2 compared to 2.3. I mean that if you can get on top of the wall with 2.2 then why is your pullup taking you to different direction in 2.3. Could you possibly push too much with your foot and it would take you further away from the wall.
@viking4211 That's a difficult question to answer. Yes and no. No because I have really tall friends who can do it even better than me. Yes because all extra height will decrease the strength/weight balance. For example many weightlifters are very short because tall people just cant lift as much (when compared bodyweight with liftweight)
@Hurjapaa83 thanks, ill keep that in mind, the only main benifit i can see to bieng tall in parkour, is that it makes a little easier to reach things, and jump greater distances with less effort.
@mikk4345 You are absolutely right when you say that 2.1 is bad technique and it's also true that you could hurt your elbow. The thing you have to understand is that you have to start somewhere. The 2.3 technique is mostly for very advanced practitioners and even 2.2 is impossible for most beginners. I have taught /still teach parkour and I know that if you tell your ''students'' to train only strength until they are strong enough to do 2.2 or 2.3, most of them will give up parkour very soon.
@Hurjapaa83 (...continues) People need to get feelings of advancement and successes to keep training a certain sport or hobbie. Otherwise the enthusiasm will drop fast. Also I think (this is my opinion only) that it is VERY IMPORTANT for anybody to be able to get to the top of the wall from a hanging position (or cat position) using whatever technique that will get you there. It might just save your life one day.
@Hurjapaa83 (..still continues, oh boy am I chatty today). One more thing: If I would fall from a high building (like death drop high) and got a grip from the ledge, the only technique I would even think about is 2.1 because that is the most reliable way to pull yourself to safety. 2.3 might fail anyou could fall, 2.2 might make your hand slip and you could fall. So think about it what would you do if your life would be on the line. The cool looking or the reliable way. :) Thanks for readin this
@bastelini Yeah I guess you mean the first cat position. You are right. But if you wear wristbands to protect the skin of your wrists you can use this technique with a bit thicker walls also.
@MissRecess The knee thing you mean is probably placing your knee on the wall and yes I wouldn't do that either. The kicking knee upward which I'm talking about is completely different thing :)
hey man im trying to do that style of pull up but when i place my hands on the top of the wall i dont do something right with my bodyand i can go up i will try the style again tomorrow but i will put my legs different thnx
Ok,so i'm a beginner at parkour and i CAN get into the cat leap like you do, but i cant manage to straighten my arms out if i wanne get up the wall, also im quite skinny and if i try to do version 2.1 it just really hurts my elbow, any advice how i have to do it and how not to do it, :) Thx.
@rs4everlmao Well the fact is that climb-up requires some amount of strenght and if 2.1 is too paiful and 2.2 and 2.3 seems to be impossible then I'd recommend strenght training. When you have gained some strenght you could start working on 2.2. If you want some tips for strenght training have a look of my strenght tutorial.
Hey great video ! i never saw a video with this much explained ! OK , now i am gonna practice this technique ! Thanks for the tutorial ! I Subscribed ! :D
hey great video, i can climb up from a cat position pretty well but when im climbing up onto a small ledge like the top of a cinder block fence, my legs get all shaky when i start to stand up straight ontop of the fence and it takes me a good deal of time to stand all the way up and its kinda scary (lol)
do u know of any leg/balance exercises i can do to help with this?
@mroubison Thanks! If the problem is mental then you could learn to land a drop really well so you wont be afraid of falling. Or get used of heights and spend a lot of time in places that gives you the creeps :) If you think that the issue is with the legs then you should start balancing on narrow things like (not too high) fences or something like that. I will also recommend to walk/run with bare feet. This will strenghten your small muscles of the feet and legs which shoes normally support.
hey awesome tutorial........... can u give me a few tips on how to increase my arms strength and what kind of excerices can i do to be able to pull stunts like this............
@Taimoorabdullah Thank you! A very good strenght training is to do pullups and muscleups. I'll try to post a video about strenght training in near future because I've had so many questions about this topic.
great vid... really helpful. I've been able to pull off some of the things in the video but i still have trouble with version 2.3 and i suspect upper body strength is the issue. any workouts you can recommend besides pull ups?

this is cool ;P..
But is it tht if i dont even hv the strength to do version1, than i cant do the rest ?!
JErkyKev 1 year ago
@JErkyKev sori i mean v2.1
JErkyKev 1 year ago
@JErkyKev Yes the next ones are more difficult and require even more strength.
Hurjapaa83 1 year ago
@JErkyKev when you say that, it is just a matter of developing the necessary upper body strength. While the 'using the forearms' technique looks simple, it is actually a milestone when it comes to being able to get over a wall. Even at the level I am at as far as parkour goes, I already know that the first technique does not require that much technique, just lots of strength.

INEParkour 1 year ago
@INEParkour I'ts ok. To your question about hurting your wrists. The vers1 is only doable with wall that is thin enough so your wrists don't hit the edge. Also usually used when doing a descendin cat leap. Also sometimes some people jump to vers2 cat position and switch the grip to vers1 in the middle of the climb-up. You can see the grip change in my video: parkour tic tac to cat & tic tac backside turn to cat
Hurjapaa83 1 year ago
Nice tutorial. But if you do the cat and grab the back of the wall wouldnt that hurt your wrists. If the wall is very high and you cat it but your fingers are on the front(opposite of your demonstration) how would you go from there to do a wall up or climb up
INEParkour 1 year ago
thumbs up if you watch these videos to do like in assassin's creed
bouchandre 1 year ago
what happens if the wall your climbing is tall and you cant get into a cat position
justlookatthattree 1 year ago
@justlookatthattree If the wall is too high to do a cat leap (jumping to the wall) then you need to do a wallrun technique to reach to the top. After the wallrun you just have to lift your legs up to make the cat position.

Is it better to be really tall or just an average height.I'm exactly the same as Meauple and I'm around 5' 11" or 6 foot
FaintlyPsychotic 1 year ago
this is awesome thank you very much, been trying hard to get the version 2 climbs for a while now, I can do 2.1 but I wasnt thinking about using my knee to provide upward momentum for the 2.3. this is going to help a lot

how are those gloves called and where can i find them?

i would say stay closer to the wall when climbing up not curving outwards?!. you make life harder for yourself

my problem is that i can't find time to practice this and i only have 2 places i can practice it.

@zwerty007 so practice in those places dumass

@goomerperez You didn't even read the whole thing i said clearly 'I can't find time to practice this' right before i said that
zwerty007 1 year ago
@zwerty007 sure.... i learned that in like 10 mins. you don't need that much time.
goomerperez 1 year ago
Awesome video thanks. The only thing that seems hard is the upper arm strength.
Eryman103 1 year ago
@TheJohnnybeez The faster you do the techniques the less time there is to slip. Explosiveness is important, with the leg push and the pull of the arms.
Hurjapaa83 1 year ago
I am 14 years old and my max attempt for pull ups is 6. Am I able to do this?
Meauple 1 year ago
@Meauple try harder i'm thirteen and i can get to over 10 but yeah you should be able to do this
LordNethesis 1 year ago
@Meauple The most important thing is the explosiveness of your pull-up. When practising pull-ups try to pull as fast as you can and then descend slowly.
Hurjapaa83 1 year ago
I am 13 years old and i can do 10 pull ups ;DDD Strange...

I'm waiting for the day I knee that wall as hard as I fucking can because I wanna be 2 seconds faster going up a wall.
Blasfulmous 1 year ago
Wow after several months of training i can finally do this...
ratchetrockon 1 year ago
Figured it out : ) It was the pushing off the wall thing. I manged to pull one off today (proud!) but couldn't do it again. More strength training, more practice, I'll be nailing em like a pro B)
Murfylaw 1 year ago
Any ideas?
Murfylaw 1 year ago
@Murfylaw That sounds a bit tricky. Is the 2.2 version easy for you? I'm just wondering that how do you pull up differently in 2.2 compared to 2.3. I mean that if you can get on top of the wall with 2.2 then why is your pullup taking you to different direction in 2.3. Could you possibly push too much with your foot and it would take you further away from the wall.
Hurjapaa83 1 year ago
does being tall make things like this harder, i mean i have really long legs, would that affect me atall with any of this?
viking4211 1 year ago
@viking4211 That's a difficult question to answer. Yes and no. No because I have really tall friends who can do it even better than me. Yes because all extra height will decrease the strength/weight balance. For example many weightlifters are very short because tall people just cant lift as much (when compared bodyweight with liftweight)
Hurjapaa83 1 year ago
@Hurjapaa83 thanks, ill keep that in mind, the only main benifit i can see to bieng tall in parkour, is that it makes a little easier to reach things, and jump greater distances with less effort.
viking4211 1 year ago
This is realy work, and is realy good!Thx for this tutorial!
eedi1996 1 year ago
did he get that muscly just from parkour?
zwerty007 1 year ago
those gloves that only cover you palms not your fingers are good for parkour as you can hang of sharp things too.
zwerty007 1 year ago
DONT NEVER DO 2.1!!!!! HES USING ELBOW AND THATS NOT HEALTHY! THATS A RULE IN PARKOUR NEVER USE ELBOW AND KNEE :)
mikk4345 1 year ago
@mikk4345 You are absolutely right when you say that 2.1 is bad technique and it's also true that you could hurt your elbow. The thing you have to understand is that you have to start somewhere. The 2.3 technique is mostly for very advanced practitioners and even 2.2 is impossible for most beginners. I have taught /still teach parkour and I know that if you tell your ''students'' to train only strength until they are strong enough to do 2.2 or 2.3, most of them will give up parkour very soon.
Hurjapaa83 1 year ago
@Hurjapaa83 (...continues) People need to get feelings of advancement and successes to keep training a certain sport or hobbie. Otherwise the enthusiasm will drop fast. Also I think (this is my opinion only) that it is VERY IMPORTANT for anybody to be able to get to the top of the wall from a hanging position (or cat position) using whatever technique that will get you there. It might just save your life one day.
Hurjapaa83 1 year ago
@Hurjapaa83 (..still continues, oh boy am I chatty today). One more thing: If I would fall from a high building (like death drop high) and got a grip from the ledge, the only technique I would even think about is 2.1 because that is the most reliable way to pull yourself to safety. 2.3 might fail anyou could fall, 2.2 might make your hand slip and you could fall. So think about it what would you do if your life would be on the line. The cool looking or the reliable way. :) Thanks for readin this
Hurjapaa83 1 year ago
@mikk4345 i agree in parkour you must NEVER touch your elbow, knee or danger points on spine if you can help it.
zwerty007 1 year ago
that hanging is only usual if the wall is thinn enough to grap it full with you hands
bastelini 1 year ago
@bastelini Yeah I guess you mean the first cat position. You are right. But if you wear wristbands to protect the skin of your wrists you can use this technique with a bit thicker walls also.
Hurjapaa83 1 year ago
i heard it is bad to put your elbow on top of the wall , or use your knee, but i dont think you did the knee thing in this vid :P
very helpful though
MissRecess 1 year ago
@MissRecess The knee thing you mean is probably placing your knee on the wall and yes I wouldn't do that either. The kicking knee upward which I'm talking about is completely different thing :)

Ok,so i'm a beginner at parkour and i CAN get into the cat leap like you do, but i cant manage to straighten my arms out if i wanne get up the wall, also im quite skinny and if i try to do version 2.1 it just really hurts my elbow, any advice how i have to do it and how not to do it, :) Thx.
rs4everlmao 1 year ago
@rs4everlmao Well the fact is that climb-up requires some amount of strenght and if 2.1 is too paiful and 2.2 and 2.3 seems to be impossible then I'd recommend strenght training. When you have gained some strenght you could start working on 2.2. If you want some tips for strenght training have a look of my strenght tutorial.

Hey great video ! i never saw a video with this much explained ! OK , now i am gonna practice this technique ! Thanks for the tutorial ! I Subscribed ! :D
BitesHisTail 1 year ago
hey great video, i can climb up from a cat position pretty well but when im climbing up onto a small ledge like the top of a cinder block fence, my legs get all shaky when i start to stand up straight ontop of the fence and it takes me a good deal of time to stand all the way up and its kinda scary (lol)
do u know of any leg/balance exercises i can do to help with this?
mroubison 1 year ago
@mroubison Thanks! If the problem is mental then you could learn to land a drop really well so you wont be afraid of falling. Or get used of heights and spend a lot of time in places that gives you the creeps :) If you think that the issue is with the legs then you should start balancing on narrow things like (not too high) fences or something like that. I will also recommend to walk/run with bare feet. This will strenghten your small muscles of the feet and legs which shoes normally support.
Hurjapaa83 1 year ago
@mroubison
eeerrrr Why would u stnd on a fence!? just do a vault over it...unless im thinkin of a different kind of fence
