the only thing i have to complain about is that i don't like the sound of the piano.... i've always like the sound of a good old fashioned grand or upright grand piano as compared to and electric one... the sound just isn't the same

There are some pretty good digital pianos now. I heard a digital piano in a music store that was superior in sound to an upright. It wasn't superior to the full sized grand. Digitals use recorded sounds of full sized grands and others to try and reproduce that sound, and they're pretty good.

Electric pianos have their own sound. They basically work like an electric guitar I believe, metal strings over magnetic pickups, so they're akin to the difference between acoustic and electric guitars.

This is a very popular piece for graduations. Normally played by brass bands, I have heard it played on an organ to good effect, and even a piano-string quintet (I Salonisti). I'm sure he will master this piece in time for graduation. Given the school budget cuts, this kid might be the only musician in his entire school, and he is likely to be ready to keep the tradition.
