I agree it's a little slow compared to BJ's, but that's ok becuase this is a spin you created. I think it's pretty good too but also agree the sound is off, not your fault; sounds too "bassy" , not balanced right or something. Great rendition though!

Many mics have the effect where if you sing closer to the mic, more bass comes out. That is because when there is demand for low notes, and it is just on the edge of your range, you bring the closer mic to you to amplify the sound. I think overall he did a good job with the song.

No, it is not because there is demand for low notes, although many singers tend to like it. It is called "proximity effect", and is to some degree inevitable (unless you have an omni-directional mic"... plain physics

actually this is about right for speed, the original recording was speed up a little on the album so it sounded higher and faster of course

acutally, the original song was sped up for the record. believe me, i know. my choir teacher has met billy joel and talked with him and also does this song as part of his gigs. its slower.
