Back in 2008-2010 by connection was the best it was just really, really good. Lately my connection is horrible. Every party im in I cause lag to everyone and make the party disconnect. I lag alot during any game and no one else does. I have 1 xbox only running at a time. The only other thing turned on while my xbox is running is another laptop. I have a linksys router, wired connection.

My nat is always open though.

@bamazudi Disconecct the laptop during online play if the router is wireless disable wireless through router settings if you do not have a secured connection < people leech ur internet unplug the ariels on my router playing through ethernet on router gives me a cleaner conenction.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the builders of my home covered my walls with 5in sold steel plates, I want my xbox in my room on my 32in. HD tv, but no... Sure enough, though like 30 ft. From my router, I start lagging soooooo bad when my sister is on the computer and my mom and dad are on their laptops. So I have to have my xbox hooked up via Ethernet to play, it sucks cause it's in my living room on a 12in. Tv. :(

Using DMZ is a very bad idea. Although it works, it exposes your xbox to hackers because all of the ports are left OPEN! Try looking up "port forwarding". That is a better way to go because it opens up certain ports only and it's very easy to set up. : )

@thecamper909 Does it lag even when your Xbox 360 is connected DIRECTLY to your modem? If so, then you either have a bad modem or your ISP just sucks. If not, then your router is causing the problem.

GO TO XBOX (dot) COM/NETWORKHELP and use the "Xbox Live connection walk-through/trouble shooter. They have instructions for common routers. I tried this crap only to fail and make my NAT type strict. I tried the trouble shooter on XBOX site and it worked for me first try and it took a couple minutes... NAT TYPE "OPEN" and I get into lobbies wayyy faster and can play with all my friends

if your on a american server and someone is on a british server most of the time british servers are different from americas servers if your from a different country then maybe its the ips and the servers and other stuff like that. Maybe you should try getting better internet connection.

Yeah, but all i did was open my xbox ports, even though that mt NAT is open, that and opne the ports for Warcraft. But what happened was that a storm made my internet go out for 'bout 2 days. So i guess that my ISP was running well, or i did something in the router setup that fixed it. I also reset the router too.

Usually for people its admin, but if its not you might have to contact your ISP(internet service provider) or ask someone what it is (eg: somebody that has accessed your router b4).

Opening nat does not decrease lag, but it makes your xbox able to connect to players with strict, moderate or open nat. If you have strict only Open nat people can join you or hear you talking.

bro its so simple all you do is go to nat click add port click custom (or just type in any name) then the port is 3074 then click both then if it didnt work your modem requires port triggering where you click on the options and look for port triggering type in 3074 then both and then type 3074 in the other spot where it says end

Hey, I found out my modem was a router as well. So I turned my 2nd router into just an access point. So I did all my port forwarding on my modem, I even tried to DMZ my Xbox's static IP, still moderate, any suggestions? Yes, all firewalls are off.

I do not recommend Port Forwarding, because if you have more than one Xbox 360 connected to your router, you can only forward the ports one of them, causing the ports to conflict. All you should have to do is use UPnP, because the Xbox 360 is a UPnP-enabled device so your router will automatically forward all ports that your Xbox 360 attempts to communicate with. If using UPnP still doesn't work, I would use UPnP as a last resort, but like Port Forwading, you can only use it on one Xbox 360.

Hey thanks for the reply, actually I found a solution that no amount of forwarding would solve.

I had to switch my ISP protocol on my modem to PPPoA instead of PPPoE, then I had to setup my router for Static IP not DHCP and viola. Open NAT.

This was my problem because I connect to Xbox Live through ICS on my desktop. Thanks anyway, anyone who has this situation, PM me I will tell you how to do this, I've been trying to figure this out for 2 years. :D

No, it's a different password than your wireless password. If you do not know it, you will have to hard reset your router. In order to do that, hold in the reset button on the back of the router for 30 seconds with something small, like a paper clip or a bobby pin.

if ur using linksys... the username and password by default are admin.. if it isnt then you need to reset the modem.. theres a tiny hole at the side of the router ... you need to hit that button and everything restores to factory default .. make sure to note down ur current net setting before you do so..

I did not mention this in the tutorial, but resetting your router to the factory default settings BEFORE following the tutorial may help. Just be sure you know how to properly configure your router after you reset it. To reset your router to the factory default settings, click the "Administration" tab then the "Factory Defaults" sub-tab. Set "Restore Factory Defaults" to "Yes," then click "Save Settings." Wow, in the Upnp section of the page, i have 3 options. How come i have 3 and you have 1? The one option where it says "upnp" i have mine ENABLED and i still have strict. heres the 3 things it says

1. Upnp [ENABLED]

2. ALlow users to configure [ENABLED]

3. Allow users to disable internet acces [DISABLED]

Are you using a Linksys WRT54G router?

If not, then visit portforward(dotcom) and click on the link named Routers to get a list of all their routers. Find yours, then select Xbox 360 live, and follow the steps there or the ones in this vid.
