  • I remember seeing this film in primary school in the early 70s. I always loved Telstar by The Tornadoes and watching this film planted a seed in my head about 'The Glesga Caurs'. I know have various books and models of trams, buses and The Underground. Many thanks Glasgowwest for all your videos. You made me feel old but very happy.

  • 4:58 is still a common scene in Toronto today.

  • Any chance of seeing the last bit? I'm intrigued to see how it ended.

  • @harbottle99

That's the end of the film. The only part edited was a minute or so out of the middle.

  • I used to go to school by tram. Woolwich to Red Lion Lane.

These were the days when public transport drivers could smoke while they worked.

  • Thank you for that Glasgowwest. I remember the last night very well even though I was only 4. Argyle Street and St Enoch Sq were packed and it seemed that most of Glasgow had turned out.

  • Magnificent!

  • Tramways are now the future... what if all those networks weren´t closed on the first place? A lot of money saved, and a better public transport for all...

  • Im from Bolton England and have over the last 3 years been visiting Glasgow a lot socially. Glasgow is absolutely fabulous and this film has brought a tear to my eye it is superb. I can't wait till my next visit. xx

  • This is an absolutely tremendous film, thanks for posting it. Am I right in thinking it was called "9 Dalmuir West"? If it is, I remember certain reviewers being a bit snotty about it - "filmed in the modern style, too arty" etc. Twerps. Looks like a certain amount of drink had been taken at the farewell party, don't blame 'em. Let Glasgow Flourish!

  • Fantastic posting, never thought I'd see this film again. 34 years between first and second viewing. Thanks.

  • 'There's an impending sense of loss, of desolation in the air'.

'It was one of the few amenities they could afford, and one of the few pleasant memories they retain...'

    Bit earnest and patronizing?

  • I Remember The Last Day Well As a 5yr Old. My Dad Took Me On A Tram For The Short Trip From Glasgow X To St Enoch Sq. He Told Me To Not To Forget It. 47Yrs Later It's Still Fresh In My Mind. Amazing Film Thanks For Posting It. Telstar Still Sounds Great Today.

  • What was the point in the trolly bus?

  • @Bigfinlach Trolleybuses were, for a long time, seen as the answer to public transport. They were said to combine the advantages of trams, i.e cheap, clean electric power, with the manouverability of the bus....they could ...to an extent.....move about on the road. But they were routebound just like the tram as they relied on overhead cables and trolley poles to collect the current. Most cities abandoned them in the fifties and sixties.

  • I can remember attending this when I was 13 years old .

    God what memories

  • This brings back wonderful memories. I lived on route 8 through Giffnock. The track was relaid past our house just a few months before the route had to close due to changes at Eastwood Toll. We had all the noise of the track laying - then the noise of it being ripped up, but the trams were wonderful!

  • I can remember them ! my dad drove one and my mum was his clippie, thats where they met. A life time ago . thanks for posting x

  • where did you get this film? brilliant I travelled on last trams in Glesga, god I'm getting old

  • For the age of the film, its surprisingly well put together with some really well shot footage

  • Brilliant !

  • anyone know what the song/tune played during the video is? it sounds very familar!

  • Telstar by the Tornados

  • I'm way too young to remember anything like this, the only trams I've been on have been Blackpool 1988, Melbourne (Australia) a wonderful service in 2004 and the modern Croydon system (2006 & 2008), somehow they're not the same. Thx 4 sharing.

  • absolute magic, when you and I were young Maggie.....

  • Excellent :-)

  • Excellent!! 10/10

  • amazing! thanks for the videos!

  • This truly wonderful. I've been a regular viewer of your films for some time. Keep up the good work!
