  • This beautiful song touches me so deeply, I lack words to describe it.

It is one of my favorite of RT's songs, though all of his music is so wonderful that it is hard to select favorites. Sometimes I think that they all are. We are blessed to have a talented man like him creating such music for all of us, and that they are being preserved as videos so many more people can enjoy them.

RT, please live a long, healthy life, we need you with us for many years to sooth our souls with your music.

  • what a gorgeous song, jeez...

  • Beautiful! <3 Thank you, Richard Thompson.

  • Which video/tv program is this from? It's obviously professionally shot etc.

  • Thank you for posting this..thank you Richard for writing this ..Truly a parent's lament of watching your grown children go through great difficulties in their lives.

I believe I read somewhere that Richard wrote this for his daughter when she was going through a hard time in her life. Once your a parent the worst pain you can feel is when your children are hurt..no matter how old they are. This song could be for anyone you care about going through hard times..

  • Happened to press this on the MP3 this morn on the way to collect newspaper, the humanity spills from every note and breath.

needless to say Mirror Blue has been murdered all day.

  • I believe this was written for his daughter when she was going through a bad time

  • Never seen him use that Lowden.

Man I hate how tramps are supposed to represent things in films.

A million film school shorts = at least 750,000 tramps.

  • I agree with you Kegwithlegs, there so many Thompson "gems" been a fan since the late 60's, and still am

  • This is 1 of RT's gems, like Beeswing, the more you hear it the better it gets.

  • I first heard this excellent song on the album Adieu False Heart by Linda Ronstadt and Ann Savoy. Their version (with Linda singing lead) impressed me, so I came looking for it on YouTube. Thanks for posting it.

  • i wish i had heard this song when i was homeless...i'm listening to this on loop and i feel like i am going to cry..his music always does that to me though..

  • I caught his solo live show in Austin two nights ago. It was one of those rare and special musical events I will always remember. This song was one of the show's highlights for me.

  • RT is, quite, simply, one of the great musical geniuses of our era: poetic, melodic, soulful. I don't have words capable of describing his talent and contribution to our times.
