What I think happened here was that the level of water that was buried deep in this hill suddenly got to be too much and the whole hill slipped over top of the water table (like what an avalanche would do).

The hill probably slipped at least 5 feet deep or more for the trees to keep standing upright as they did.

there is a longer version of this vid on youtube i seen it a couple of years ago. They shut the road down and they were actually right in the area that slid. The camera guy had just moved from there before it happen.
