We have asbestos in our local highschool here in oregon. even a curtain in our theatre department is filled with asbestos. and the tiles on the floor also tested dust positive
Asbestos exposure becomes a health concern when high concentrations of asbestos fibers are inhaled over a long time period. People who become ill are almost always those who are exposed on a day-to-day basis in a job where they work directly with the material.
Disease is very unlikely to result from a single, high-level exposure, or from a short period of exposure to lower levels.
Wet asbestos is not a hazard unless you eat it or bathe in it. Dry asbestos becomes airborne easily and can remain hazardous long after you think the dust has settled. Asbestos is odorless-- they are probably smelling rotting leaves. No place I'd want to go in any case!
You guys are pathetic tree huggers. I grew up in those factories and those woods, the smell there is no different than anywhere else. Oh and by the way its not a secret if they have signs for it everywhere.
give them 10 years after the latency peroid and the effects of asbestos will slowly appear it will start with a cough that does not go away then phlem then headaches fevers shortness of breath then chest pain then more severe effects spewing blood ect
I am an asbestos analyst and i don't care what your cause is that was a really Stupid thing to do! reading other comments you have not only exposed yourself to Asbestos but Crocidolite! You know what i cant even be bothered to lecture you after such an act of stupidity!!!
then don't be bothered. this site is in the middle of suburban america. People are exposed to this stuff everyday and are have no idea! thank you for your 'red flag' though.... it helps (three years after the fact). keep on analyzing....
@cjmillsnun Amosite and Crocidolite, infact all 5 types of asbestos in the amphibole group are indeed hydrophobic, Chrysotile which is in the Serpentine group is hydrophillic and actually, to a certain extent absorbs water. These people here are STUPID why would you want to go past a sign that states danger asbestos lol.
The asbestos plant in Ambler is hardly hidden. Certainteed produced asbestos cement pipe in Ambler until 1992. Their pipe was especially nasty because it contained crocidolite (blue) asbestos

yea thats my back yard. in like 3rd grade my best friend and i went as far as the signs. you can kind of go around the fence and into ambler over this giant rock thing too. there is a lot of murky creek water. i used to swim in it with my friends. proly not the best idea. we did a film project there for school in 10th grade where we were at that long grassway (it was uncut at the time) and my friend ran and jumped into the creek. pretty funny. i wish i had that video.
Interesting as it may be to expose this "Hidden" asbestos site, it is extremely dangerous. Inhalation of asbestos fibres can cause mesotheiloma, lung cancer or asbestosis years after exposure. For your safety and the safety of others, please exercise more caution.
Asbestos doesn't smell and it doesn't kill plants. It is a naturally occuring mineral. It is just that it gets stuck in your lungs and causes cancer.

You want to bet? You don't know much about asbestos do you?
BTW Wet Amosite (brown) or Crocidolite (blue) can still be hazardous as it still can get airborne
Wet Chrysotile (white) isn't a hazard unless ingested.
