@genuinebbuck Actually they're not Arabic numbers either. Arabs adopted them from, wait for it, Indians. Look it up. Quote from Wikipedia: "Its glyphs are descended from the Indian Brahmi numerals."
The problem is that I CAN write in KANA, Hiragana and Katakana, writing again in "roumaji" (you just wrote it wrong) is a waste of time and is just messy, because the roumaji can be adapted to the nature of the student, so is different for the english speaking and the spanish speaking people. Excuse me if it wrote it wrong. (And try to wrote the correct words in english OK?, you just wrote so bad...)
wakarimashitaka (I write it in roumaji for you to understand. douitashimashite)
wow this is the most productive vid ive seen from him =o~ sum1 once told me teh history on Hatachi but i fear i dun remember much =o was something like.. hanging by a tooth =o or something x3
even tho its 20 yrs old. they old me it when i was 20~ im 21 nao :D
on occational occations. (wait, that sentence sounded either really bad or kinda great...)
for example, we have the months which are as following:
1ichigatsu, 2nigatsu, 3sangatsu 4[shi]gatsu, 5gogatsu, 6rokugatsu, 7[shichi]gatsu, 8hachigatsu, 9[ku]gatsu. notice that there's one more expectation to the days of the month; 19juukunichi [ku instead of kyuu] (same goes for 29)
lol you're sooo funny! XD I remember learning these for the first time. It's literally taken about 3-4 times of sorta re-learning for me to remember them by heart. But I didn't know about 14 and 24 etc, so thanks Koichi!! ^^
this is off topic but, ive been noticing your hair! You look awesome with it long! And the glasses make it look extra cool! Oh I was wondering how do you memorise Japanese? I'm going to be doing a degree next year in languages and linguistics and I am doing Mandarin major, Japanese and Spanish minor. So memorising tips would help alot :)
most kanji symbols also have various meanings *part of what makes it such a pain to learn* , but i guess not everybody knows that so thanks for letting us know i guess
Ugh, this would've been helpful last week before my last Japanese test. When I was looking for a way to memorize them, I had to settle for the annoying Australian rap under "Related Videos." But thanks for posting this! Now I can learn them better.
I haven't been studying Japanese very long and when I reached the days of the week/month I felt like banging my head against a wall. Up until that point Japanese grammar had seemed remarkably straightforward, almost elegant.
Then I spared a thought for students of English having to memorize the names of our days/months that are derived from Norse mythology and Roman history!
thx a lot, you helped me a lot with this song!

They aren't English numbers. They're called Arabic numerals.
TheNubbbler 1 year ago
@TheNubbbler I love how people don't give the Arabs credit for modern math because without their 'Golden Age' we would not be as far as we are now.

@genuinebbuck And yea, about hindu-arabic numberals. There is some indication they come from Chinese. Mind boggling. :)

This is a great video! Helped me so much! My only question is in the numbers 1-10, do you still say 日(にち)after each number?
lexsorocks4500 3 years ago
nope, you don't say "nichi," even though the kanji is there.
