Many of our parents, in their school years, took a beating or two from their teachers. I always heard stories about the meter stick (yard stick for Americans). Their generation seems stable enough.

These days, there is no discipline of anykind in western schools. They won't even make you write "I will not ____" 100 times because it might cause tendonitis. And yet the suicide rate is getting higher....
