The reason that Gumi looks that much like Ranka is because Nakajima Megumi, who did the voice of Ranka Lee, also provided the voice samples for Megpoid Gumi. That way people know who did her voice. They did a similar thing with Gakpoid Gakupo, who is from the same company as Gumi.
