@andell1 Your theory is certainly possible. And I will for sure try to take some your critism to mind when making my future videos, but to be honest I'm not sure if they'll shine through just because it's hard to think beyond the moment and instinct sometimes. But I do appreciate your comments!
The shots are aesthetically nice, but not really conducive to really telling a story that people can watch and enjoy.
I mean no disrespect, but I get the feeling that a lot of the people who have liked your video...are camera people who like what you've done with the technology. I'm not a camera person, and I have to admit that the fact that nothing really settled in the film...kinda took away from my enjoyment of the film.
@andell1 Hmmm...I think I understand what you were getting at but is it really the cinematography that's holding the story back or the script itself? As this is first and foremost an action movie, aesthetics make an equal impact as story in my opinion, so I would certainly agree if you found the script lackluster, but I don't see how the choice in the cinematography plays into the pale story, could you elaborate more if you have the time so I can fully understand your viewpoint?
@STRIKETOBURN1 lol the keyword to Andell1's comment is "conducive." Which means that even though some of the shots were Grade-A-cinematography, they were not entirely "necessary" for some of the scenes. In other words: Andell1 probably would enjoy the safe-cinematography that Michael Bay uses in his films, over the risky, bizarre cinematography that Danny Boyle uses in his films. Sometimes a simple shot may look better than a crazy, unique shot, if it works for the moment in the scene.
@STRIKETOBURN1 I understood this to be an action movie...so the action sequences are the pay off. But what I found hard to enjoy about the film was how everytime an action sequence started, everything descended into a haze.
The wierd thing was that the choreography of these scenes seemed to be good...at least, it did on the fight at 8:09...yet a scene that looked good descendes into flashing camera angles, pink tinge, blurry shots, overdone motion, etc...
@andell1 Oh no nothing comes off as pure criticism without construction so I appreciate you taking the time to voice your opinion because it does matter to what we put in future videos, although I'm wondering if this more boils down to taste. Have you seen the movie "Man on a Ledge"? I thought "This is an extremely well done movie with no style" which makes it ultimately forgettable in my eyes and have you seen "Man on Fire" (a movie with extreme style) if so what did you think of that?
@STRIKETOBURN1 I must admit, I've not seen either of those films...not by choice...it's just the way that it worked out.
I don't mean to say that the extreme style has no place...I just think that if you utilized it to establish setting, or introduce a character..and left your action sequences less defined by it, unless they're particularly gory or gruesome and you're trying to spare your audience a disturbing scene, it'd probably be less frustrating.
@STRIKETOBURN1 BTW, I asked myself if it was just a matter of taste...I mean, your likes to dislikes ratio is nearly 15 to 1. But your views to reviews ratio is over 20 to 1...so I kinda wonder if there weren't a lot of people who gave up on your film. I mean, some are obviously repeat viewers...but some are not.
Which is a shame, because as I mentioned before, there's definite quality here...which is why I subbed.
All the best, even if you choose to ignore my suggestions.
@STRIKETOBURN1 Obviously I'm not a camera guy...just a viewer. And I apologize if what I'm saying comes across as offensive...because I can see that your films do have quality.
It's just, if I'm being honest, I found myself feeling frustrated with the camera work...because it just seemed to come at the wrong times. At the vary start of an action sequence, it might kick it off well...but during an action sequence...if I'm being honest, it got old really quick.
I like the shot ideas. Some of the horizontally shot clips throw me off. I like the concept. Keep it up! If you would be willing to give some of my videos a peek I’d love to hear some of your thoughts. Thanks again and keep at it!
every time I import video from my canon 60d to imovie seems like the quality is not the same , would you please make a video or just tell me about program to use to import movies with out loosing its quality or settings that you use in your camera. i have watch your videos and they are awesome and also what software do use for editing. I am new in the dslr world and i am just trying to learn. thank you so much.
Dig the Radiohead score. Cinematography is awesome, action/choreography is excellent. Only thing that falls flat are the 'interviews'. They sound like someone reading cue cards, and frankly look too young for the role, but small criticism. Otherwise bang-up job.
Ah, and the like/dislike waffler has shown itself. Murder Inc. had 47 likes last night, one dislike; this morning it has 46 likes and two dislikes, ergo, concordantly, visa vi . . . deadpoet76, are you sure you clicked the like button or the dislike? lol
Career Center Alumni? I'm pretty sure I went there with one of you. I've been on top of that parking garage. It's a special place for me. You chose well. I liked your film. The hand to hand sequences were sweet. I feel like a joke about JJ Abrams and lens flare is in order, but I'm not witty enough to connect those dots. I understand the time you put into this. Good work.
@Monkey14Hunk YES!!! FUCK YES!!! YOU SAW IT TOO?!?!?!?! It looked like one of the final shots in 'Trainspotting', I thought so too! and on 5:55 there's this shot that, perhaps, was borrowed from '28 Days Later...'!
Did someone decide to remove their dislike? I mean, hell, if this short film is good enough to have people change their minds upon second viewings, then u know for sure you made a pretty radical short film.
in my opinion you have achieved the three great things of film here in this short
1 amazing cinematography and great sound track
2 actors playing parts that audience sees as believeable
and the most difficult 3 a surprise ending
at first i didnt think i would like this because of the interview style of film but im glad i kept watching because over all as a whole this film is very very good and any injuries sustained by your friends in making this, were well worth it!
I may or may not have cried while watching this...okay, I did. Pure excellence. I especially liked the motifs of "3 Remember", "Caution" & "Inspection", "Assistance" and "1 Remember". ;) There is much else to say about this one, but I think my mind is still blown so I'll catch up with ya later.
Finally a youtube video i can watch more than once. Love this shit. Bout time you made a 15 minute piece of gold. Your cinematography has a raw scatter brained look which keeps the audience engaged and wanting more. The editing is spot on. The amount of footage used in this video is wild. From time laps to filming at night and my favorite, the fight scene in the studio apartment. That death should win you awards. The casting is perfect and i love how the agent doesnt talk. Only the witness.
@thriller126 Thanks so much man! We tried really hard to bring this up to a new production level so I really appreciate you commenting on it, for future reference was there anything that you felt could have been better or more perfected?

@TheRolvaag The filter we put over the lens to give it that fake anamorphic lens flare look? We call it the "J.J. Filter" : )
