Thank you for the historical info on song, and for checking it out...Friends, Lloyd.

  • I remember listening to this fine singer when I was a little boy. Tkkhe song I remeber most clearly was his theme song, "An Evening Prayer." There was the "Little Brown Church in the Vale" which I loved as a child.

Check my YouTube postings: Tags "On Eagle's Wings and "The Lord's Prayer.\" by Malotte. Edward Palmer Thanks, lrh1966 for posting.

Tag titles and Palmer Hope you like them.

  • @CanadaPisces

Thank you James@CanadaPisces for sharing this very, very nice version (one of the best I've ever heard), and thank you Inh1966 for posting.

  • I am so excited to find this! Edward MacHugh is the brother of Nellie MacHugh Short, who is the mother of my maternal grandfather! When I visited Scotland a few years ago, I tried unsuccessfully to find info about him in Dundee. I have a copy of his Treasury of Gospel Hymns and Poems, copyright 1938, so it was wonderful to hear his voice. If other family reads this, please email me at knapprs@shaw.ca

  • @shirleyfido

This is very inspiring to hear this, and I hope you find more info about him in your research. Thank you for checking out this vintage 78...Friends, Lloyd.

  • What a fine singer was Edward MacHugh. I wonder who is the accompanying organist playing the theatre organ? ... and which organ? Possibly a studio installed one? Also does anyone know much about the life and career of Edward MacHugh?

  • @Wnoronz

Thank you for checking this classic out by Edward MacHugh. I took the song from one of my CD-R's I made of this record a few years ago, and did not write down the song details other than main artist, and song title...I should have known better than and wrote it all down while I still had the original Victor 78!!...friends, Lloyd.

  • @Wnoronz

Edward MacHugh was born in Scotland and came to the USA when he was 17.

He lived in Conneticut in a Dutch colonial home with eight acres. He raised poultry and liked to be called "Farmer."

He started on radio in 1927 at a Boston radio station and became a major radio star across the USA. His fans referred to him simply as ,"The Gospel Singer."

His songbooks are regularly on ebay.

  • Hi Lloyd,

Thanks for posting all the great music!

I wondered what MacHugh sounded like.

I've had his songbook for a while.

    Dave

  • @MrFloridaDave Thank you for that information MrFloridaDave. Truly Mr. MacHugh had a fine voice, and it seems strange that (as far as I can tell) he never enjoyed the same fame in Britain as he attained in the USA. I suppose going from the time scale of when he was popular (starting on the radio as you say in 1927) he must be long since departed this life by now.

  • @Wnoronz

Yes I meant to put Edward MacHugh 1893-1957

They don't make singers like this anymore.

  • @MrFloridaDave Hello Dave! Thank you for those dates. Edward MacHugh is indeed longer here with us, but truly he lives again every time we hear his beautiful tenor voice!

  • @Wnoronz

I am having difficulty locating decent historical info about him and his recordings, thank you for listening in on his classics...friends, Lloyd.

  • @lrh1966 Hello Lloyd. Thank you for your efforts and indeed for all that you put on to YouTube. Ta!

  • ¡So good sounds! Are you sure than this is a recording of the 1930´s? Because the sound is very good!

  • Thank you for comments!!, yes this is from a Victor Scroll record, and the scroll design was replaced with plainer Victor label in 1937 from the date books I have researched..thank you again, the flip side is "The 90 And 9".

  • ((((((((((( Thank you! )))))))))))

  • You are welcome, this is a rare artist.
