Correct me if i'm wrong but at 5:19 looks like the police officer standing at the back of the red car is giving the other officer a ticking off coz he helped move the hose
That's an awfully big town to still have a volunteer dept. And I don't care how much training that cop has, he has no business on a nozzle with no gear on.
for a call like that, we would be out of the station in probly 5 minutes after the initial dispatch. Im not bragging. Did you get re alerted? because the siren was going off
@timberland1108 for volunteer? it is not that long. considering our company has the problem of picky choosy when it comes to calls, it is not bad. If it is during the day it is five minutes. after hours it is less
@25Yankeesfan I watched a video the other day of a completely paid fire department on their 4th alarm, almost an hour into the incident and they still didnt have water on the fire. and the siren goes off with dispatch, so the engine was out the door in less than a minute....not bragging or anything
liked the Q!! very nice video! lol ive seen alot of fires but i have never seen a cop help flake hose or tag a hydrate....but thats good they actually help u guys instead of stand around and take up room like the cops do where i live.
I was at this fire with EDS, Dave Thomas and I were in the ROX for a parade when the call was dispatched and responded from the end of the parade which coincidentally ended right at the entrance to the McKees Rocks bridge.
I think it's kinda fun to see how the Bravo exposure's Delta side verneer at 2:35 is intact, however at 8:06 you can see how the heat melted it. It was really smoking there for a while. The house on fire is destroyed, before they ever put water on it. I would have hit that Bravo exposure before ever turning the hose on the burning house. It was really smoking there for a bit.
if i may ask, how come there is yelling at about 6:05 to 6:20 is something wrong, and i never seen the cops helping out, was there lack of manpower, i hope everyone was safe, awesome video... -PA firefighter
Thanks 108 boss, I was just curious, not critiquing. I was the Capt in Elmira Hgts NY (vol) some years ago and we didn't have chiefs from other Depts show up to help, that would have been nice. Our cops helped out too, definitely a bonus.
One question, why is the chief fighting the fire instead of being the chief, and the captain is running the fire ground instead of directing the attack? Just curious.
@covewatcher Because maybe the Chief let the Captain be in charge since he was in the 1st due truck... it's simple... where i live my dad is a asst cheif and he lets his captain be in charge on their company calls
cops help flake out lines and stuff. they are all firefighters. Everyone says cops go block the street or stand over there but if anyone wants to flake out my line ill let them. Its one less firefighter that is stuck chasing kinks. Its not that firefighters cant do it but you try a working fire first on scene with 2 people and see how much you get done by yourself
I just watched it. Two firefighters were on a line, the red hat had command and a pump man. So 4 guys total at that point. Thats alot of work. This isnt a paid place where you get 4 to 5 people on a rig. In cities its usually 2 Engines, a truck, 2 bc's, and possibly a rescue company. Thats 18 guys for cities. We do this for free and no one is garenteed to get crews out the doors in 30 seconds with 4 people on each truck and the line down was a cable line, i would of done the same thing.
@108engineboss Thats awesome! They're integrating our police departments around here, giving them the option of getting their paramedic or firefighter. It's been a god send
@108engineboss Depends where u work and what kind of relationship ur PD has with FD. As a Cop, I've laid supply lines/attack lines, raised ladders and handled exposure lines. U work with what u have.
@gotgank exactly. finally someone understands that not just fire fighters can fight a fire. THANK YOU LORD. im a fire fighter anyway and i know from experience that every person fire fighter or not that is will to help should help
I only had a problem with one thing...there were a few guys that approached the A (alpha) side of the building without an SCBA on, i dont care if you are going in or outside, if you are in a danger zone with smoke you need to wear an SCBA!! Other than that, fine job!
hell, i keep an SCBA hangin on the wall of my garage because its full of solvents, paints, gasoline, and diesel. if there's a fire, i aint waistin no time in strappin that bitch on and headin in with dry chem!
My fire company we wear scbas for fire alarms, co, gas, car fires, dumpster fires, we are weill disiplined with that. I cant speak for other fire companies meaning those people werent from my place and this call wasnt in our district.
I was at this fire, actually made crew chief on our engine. when I heard it, walked ourt of my house looked to the left and thought HOLY SHIT. Of course I headed to the fire house and even made the news that day.
at 4:30 is that a police officer in the rear view mirror? because i think he is helping setting up a line. Just wondering if you guys are Fire Police or is he just a volunteer with your dept and works as a cop. and than he gets in shit at the front of the truck too lol
That police officer is a firefighter for borough where this fire was at. Most of bellevue's police officers are firefighters too so when we have a fire and they are there, we let them hit our hydrants so we have that extra person to go in right away.
That is actually a tower siren. Not many fire departments use them anymore. Ours isnt used anymore because the relay broke and our council thinks its annoying.
That was the general idea. Back in the old days when they didnt have pagers to alert that there was a fire call the siren would go off and everyone responded. Now that pagers are used, the tower siren was still meant for firefighters if they were out and didnt have a pager and so the community knew we had a fire so they would know to get ready to pull over. Some now days go off when its noon and when its curfew, others are used for severe weather coming.
Ya that is one thing that politicians dont understand, with all of the technology made with pagers and beepers and such, they still fail and we have to rely on other things to alert us.
Yep. I know Brentwood, a company we run Mutual for, which I have two uncles in that company, both of there pagers are complete fail! Plus, they have a House Siren, which they don't use! So they both have to carry there Radios with themm 24/7 so that they hear calls!
I dont have an exact number but last i could remember it was 3 and a dog. I know on arrival of our engine fire was blowing out of every window and the front was fully involved. On arrival you couldnt see it because of the smoke but the right side wall was blown off the foundation.
almost sounds like from the way they held maybe someone ran over one of the lines??? or the line was still coiled when they charged it and it went flyin!!
Lived there from 1951 to 1975. When I got married we moved to an appartment in Bellevue, then three years later bought a house that is two doors away from the structure in the video.
I've heard stories about the events that lead to the explosion but I don't have any first hand information. According to word of mouth the tenants caused a natural gas explostion by accident from work they were doing in the basement.
I heard a scenario like that. A tenant was was working on a natural gas like in the basement and someone lit a cigarette which sparked the blaze. When our engine arrived the side of the house that is the closest to birmingham was blown out and the roof was caving in
I like how the cop accidently touched the Chevy Aveo car and then realized DARN that is HOT @ 5:16 in on the tape. But he was also looking out for his other brother who wanted to help the firemen out but he was playing the role of cop not firefighter; so good for the other guy. I guess what I am trying to say is NO PPE NO PLAY. Sometimes it is harder not to help out in the heat of the moment.
Not to say that all cops do it but some cops think they are super heroes. I hate it when i hear on the news where a cop runs into a burning building and saves a pet or person. Granted its a good save but you carry a gun and you dont have the proper ppe. The gun will go off under heat and if the cop goes down you have two people to worry about getting out not just one.

The engine rolled to this call with just the driver. We are a combination dept, a paid ff is on duty 24/7 and the rest is made up of volunteers. The driver decided to not wait for a crew to get to the station because it was day light and wasnt sure if anyone was around.

The engine rolled to this call with just the driver. We are a combination dept, a paid ff is on duty 24/7 and the rest is made up of volunteers. The driver decided to not wait for a crew to get to the station because it was day light and wasnt sure if anyone was around.
