Singer Ian Gillian, having an uncharacteristically difficult time getting through the vocals here. Probably near the end of the tour after callaous over booking. Better this guy out of breath than that monkey, Glenn Hughes.
The MF sound engineer should have been fired after fucking up the vocals. Another great tune by the great DP...wonderful band ...the amazing rythym section of Glover/Paice to the vocals of Gillan & those two monsters Lord/Blackmore.
:( if only at this time Gillan voice is powerfull as he used to be back in the 1970's this mark reunion of mark 2 will be Epic and last longer, maybe it will last until now
And seriously, I do like Ritchie a lot better than most out there.
My personal opinion is that if given the choice, I'd prefer Blackmore over Eric Johnson. I'd prefer him over Satriani, etc. It's not just technical ability that catches my ear! THE STYLE is everything. Okay, I'll give him a tie with Page but in a different kind of way!
Gotta hand it to Gillan for keeping the show going on despite a cold. It's almost painful to hear as he struggles to compose his voice despite the adversities.
At 5:55 Ritchie smiled - 6:00 to 6:25 what in the world, I don't think I've seen Ritchie so fast. Awsome talent, to bad the camera was getting a shot from behind? at the times when it would have been nice to see Ritchie doin his thing. Frustrating
blackmore at his best! he is a real virtuoso and his soli are most arranged, most people mean that he only play the highway star solo note for note - No, Blackmore has a lot of guitar arangements where he play a full arrangement solo.
Hei Ritchie!!! What the fuck are you doing now? Keep your STRAT and come to save rock 'n' roll music! RONNIE is whatching you from "THE TEMPLE OF THE KING"... What are you waiting for?
C'mon.. cut Gillan some slack, when he's speaking to the crowd his voice is weak, like he has a cold. To all you who are saying Gillan's lost it, I suggest you listen to the unplugged performance here on you tube called "Ian Gillan: When A Blind Man Cries (Live) Better Days (Live) "with Steve Morris from his solo band.
Questa serata Gillan aveva problemi grossi alla gola, infatti ha sostituito child in time con questo pezzo ...peccato perchè era la prima diretta tv dopo tanti anni
Gillan had a cold during this gig, and the night before and after. I have the audio bootlegs. Also, Gillan's microphone is very low in the mix here. The main SBD source for this show synched with the concert is much much better. I think parts of the concert with that mix is on YT.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Truth is, Gillan has never been able to give a proper live rendition of this song, faster or slower. Even on the studio version, you can hear him struggle to reach the higher notes. I guess it was written with his 70s voice in mind, but by 1985, Gillan was not the silver-throated screamer of Child in Time anymore...
You sir, are not a Deep Purple fan. Go fuck yourself please. Gillan rocks as well, as Blackmore, Paice, Lord, Glover and everyone else who's been a part of the band past to present. Gillan had a cold when this was shot, and therefore it has never been officially released in it's entirety. That is FACTS!
Yes indeed! Gillan is the best, even with a cold, and still to this day at nearly 65, Gillan still sounds good considering his age. The man is a legend. Every Purple singer has been great, Evans, Coverdale, Hughes...and of course Gillan, the best of them all. Joe Lynn Turner isn't even worth mentioning. An AOR pub singer with a wig and an eggplant down his leatherpants.
@SilverTounge85 .. thats where gillan belongs... in the pub. Seen him in the peg and well he has lost what he had, a great voice, now he is just living off the DP name. long live Gillan's Purple.... Yowza!
@SilverTounge85: Hey!!! I agree that Hughes, Coverdale and especially Gillan were good, but Joe Lynn Turner was not a loser! He had a sugary, sweet voice, but could tune in great songs too!! Listen to his years with Rainbow, and you'll see! But Gillan rocks and rocks!!!!!!! Heard his two years ago live and he's still the king!
@StelaZoric I love some of the stuff Turner did in Rainbow, as well as his project w. Glenn Hughes....'Hughes & Turner Project', as well as some of his solo stuff, but he was not the right man for Deep Purple in my opinion. He butchered all the MK.II and III classics on stage, and I think Live w. Deep Purple he sounded awful, not sure if he had trouble w. his voice or something at the time he was in Purple. I saw 'Over The Rainbow' w. Turner singing, and it was good, really good actually.
@SilverTounge85 True, he was not the best Purple singer, far from it... But he had a pleasing voice and versatility in his singing, as he could belt out ballds and energeticsogns with earual verve. I only regret that Rod Evans did not do more albums with Purple - IMHO, he was a great singer with a deep sense of methaphysics, a thing that Gillan never quite mastered. But Ian is still number one!!!
@StelaZoric Yes Rod Evans had a great voice, but not as a hardrock singer. I really love the 3 MK.1 albums and the stuff he did w. Captain Beyond. According to Ian Paice (the last thing he had heard a couple of years back), is that Rod is now living in the States, and that he is struggling w. alcohol. A shame really! I love to hear Gillan sing MK.1 stuff, like 'Mandrake Root', 'Hush' and even 'Bird Has Flown'.
Wow...!This is great...I have waited a long time to find this clip!Deep purple is a monster of rock!Love to see Gillan and Blackmore cheer together.Thx 4 post!
