  • INITIAL D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Tanner924 What?

  • Put an S2000 engine in an AW11...best swap ever

  • what muffler are you using ? and is that velocity that i hear ? have 1 hoping to go big after i finish my 93 mx6 v6 :D

  • 0-100km/h in about 6 seconds? Nice :)

  • i hate how 3 quorters of the speedo is 4 gears and the last is the 5th. its the reason why it pulls slow in 5th. sick car tho!

  • mr2 spyder or 91 mr2?

  • @Shikaku95 - Both wrong.

    It's a AW11 hardtop (1st gen MR2)

  • @7MPower :O that thing can haul ass :O! fuck! would the 91 mr2 beat it if it was fixed up?

  • when you had this car, did you take the tranny AND the 20v out of an ae111?

and i have another question if you dont mind, is it because of the velocity stacks that it sounds so jizztastic? or just the itb's.

  • @Gin132456 - I still have the car.

Yes, I did take the engine and the 6spd gearbox from an JDM AE111.

And yes, it's mostly because of the open velocity stacks that it sounds so great! :D

  • Seems like this setup can take on the second Gen Mr2 Turbo. Very impressive with great monstrous sound.

  • Fuckin crisp.

  • Awesome sound, 10x better than any h/b/k-series honda.

  • that car was automatic originally

  • @mister0ldschool - Excuse me?

  • @7MPower it came from the factory with an automatic transmission.

  • @mister0ldschool - I think I missed something. =D What car came from the factory with an automatic transmission?

  • @7MPower your car was manufactured with an automatic transmission. you can tell because instead of a volt meter in the upper left (above the fuel guage) you have those 2 little lights. and if you look under the knob for the windshield wipers there will be an overdrive button.

  • @mister0ldschool i was wondering why the dash was different to mine, thought it must be an american thing the fuel gage is reading the same tho haha!

  • @chunk123123 um yes :)

  • @mister0ldschool - My car wasn't an auto.

Maybe the econometer (the 2 little lights) was an EU thing?

I don't have an overdrive button either.

  • @7MPower oh man im about to give up on this lol, take a clear picture of the little lights and send them to me

  • @mister0ldschool - It's just a green and an orange light. I've replaced it with a volt meter, so I can't take a picture of it. I've bought the car bone stock yeeeeeaaaaars ago. It never was an automatic in it's life. (Almost) all of our Dutch/EU base model (no power locks, windows, etc) AW11's have this econometer.

  • @7MPower hmmm well ok then ill give that to you, got any more videos of it?

  • @mister0ldschool it definitely did not come as an automatic... at least not in 88 when they had the super chargers

  • @Andyterranbase1 ya it did, and not all mr2's after 88 were sc, infact very few of them were, same goes for automatic mr2's there were very few thats why not many people know how to spot one

  • @mister0ldschool , i did not say after 88 i said 88, in 1988 as you may of recalled the automatic transmission in the mr2's was complete shit, they then made retrofits for the cars to convert them to manual, so technically they are all manuals if you got the retrofit which was issued by toyota the manufacturer, (some years later)...

  • @Andyterranbase1 iv seen a 88 or 2 that was automatic

  • niceeeeeee ;)

  • dam fast 180 km/h only 19 sec.. my corolla swap blacktop need 26sec to 180km/h that engine stock??

  • @piston335 - Pretty much, yeah :)

  • Economy light doesn't work, i always like to play with it :P

  • very nice video and shifting. love it.

  • nice blacktop down there ;)

  • i hear a lot of shifting but the speedo is still behind.. feels like ur shifting every 30km

    it sounds fast

  • @mostwanteddirkyboy - The first four gear ratios of the 6spd gearbox are pretty close together.

  • @7MPower is that a stock transmission ?

  • @FrostzyfulI - It's not the stock AW11 transmission.

It's the gearbox from a AE111, just like the engine.

  • thats some great shifting - good work.

  • damn! thats stock or tuned?

  • @jovannyaulet - It's pretty much stock, aside from some basic mods (stacks and exhaust)

  • @7MPower oh ok! i had one and damn! stock runned like a beast! :D

  • Even at high RPM's you're still in Economy mode HAHAHAH BALLIN!!!!

  • Nice sounding Mr2

  • @IXECSTACYXI - Thanks mate!

  • @7MPower I came...

  • @20vtrueno - LOL =))

  • @7MPower I have to listen to this or GTTC20's 20v video at least once a day lol xD such a nice sound

  • mr2 rocks!!!

  • @appleapple1982 - It sure does!! :D

  • nice short gear ratios... i hate it when 4 pots bog in 2nd

  • You gotta love these busy little bee's. ^^

  • I had a 85 and a 86, back in those days, had the 86 up to 130 mph once, flat out and bone stock. What a sweet ride.

  • Sounds nice... looks quick too.

  • For a mobile phone, that sounds pretty damn good. Must sound orgasmic in person =)

  • good sound!

  • for 1.6 is great !!

  • true,it's one of the fastest aspirated 1,6 i know about LOL

  • dats crazy and deep lol

  • cant see a shit!

  • some glasses perhaps? ;-) juuust kidding

  • Some questions since I am looking into this swap...

This is the engine from the AE111?

What does it take to get the C160 6speed to work in the AW11?

How much did you pay for the cut?

How much for the velocity stacks?

Are you running an ITB sock on the stacks?

  • Gaaf geluid!! En wat gaatie vlot =D Deze week heb ik ook n blacktop in m'n mr2 :) ik kan niet wachten op de testrit !

  • What type of clutch assembly are you using? I have a centerforce stage III with a Toda lightweight flywheel in mine but for some reason I think I need something that can grab a little better. Any tips?

  • At the time of filming I was running a TRD stage 1 clutch kit and the OEM BT flywheel.

Currently I'm running a OEM clutch, but I'm swapping it with a Exedy stage 1 clutch kit soon.

Grippier then stock, but still very streetable, so perfect for daily driving!

  • it may still be in the break in period because that should grab like crazy

  • Any additional performance upgrades added since this vid? Please tell =)

  • Some lightweight underdrive pulleys, a 4-1 RS*R header and a custom center-exit exhaust with a Magnaflow muffler, so nothing to get excited about ;-)

  • What kind of engine is it 1,6 20V? Does stock engine really needs swap? Anyway awesome work!!!

  • very nice job... perhabs silly question, but what kind of engine is it, 1.6 20V,from MK2? Stock engine is not enough strong? I am going to tune up Mr1 therefor askin you what kind of MR2´s engines is the most appropriate to make changes on it? Thanks

  • that pulls hard.

    nice

  • Opgelost !

  • Funny,.

    I have a aw11 and a silvertop in it on a C56 gearbox.

I taught the C160 was a way better gearbox to have in all the ways but you're top speed is lower then mine ? dint expect that.

The acceleration on other hand is absolute incredible !!!!! Not only the gearbox is the reason,.the blacktop is a really fantastic engine !

  • I only used 5 gears because there was traffic ahead! =)

  • Holy shit. Sounds really good to me.

  • It breathes so good :)

  • that is awesome and music to my ears man, well done

  • hey dude stock ecu is limited to 180 kmph and 8000 revs. i think ur gauges are lying 2 u :)

  • Rev limit = ~8200rpm (rev counters are always a bit off)

Speed limit was 180km/h, but a HKS SLD got rid of the limit.

  • Are you running the stock ECU dude? Looks and sounds good, about to start this conversion in to my AE85, but thinking of using Link computer and mitsi evo waste spark setup

  • Thanks!

    Yes, stock ECU

  • hahah, en ik al die tijd maar denken dat je uit de UK komt :P .

Netjes, vooral voor nederlandse begrinppen, gebeurt daar niet veel.

  • 135...That is disapointing. I thought this would be as fast as a stock SC car. Oh well I am only going to drive it through college then Put my SC rods/pistons in for a turbo blacktop. Very cool car you got. I a going to run my E51 tranny with this blacktop though so a lot different gears. I didn't want the 6 speed.

  • I think it'll run quite a bit faster with a C56 tranny.

    I've chosen acceleration (close-ratio 6spd) over top-end.

  • how much better is the C56 compared to the C160? and isnt the c160 just the celica gts tranny with LSD?

  • The C160 is the 6spd tranny from a AE111

The C60 is the 6spd tranny from a Celica GTS

I think a C56 is better suited for top-end, but a C160 is the better choice if you want better acceleration, due to the shorter 1-4 gears.

My C160 doesn't have a LSD, but some of the do.

  • I am building one of these next week. I have an 89 SC body with a bown 4agze in it. What is the top speed of this car? Highest you got it up to? Thanks!

  • About 135mph on GPS.

The 6th gear is just too tall...

With a shorter final drive (stock 6spd final drive is 4.5) or smaller then stock diameter wheels, I think it'll run a bit faster.

  • For good acceleration nd mint top end I guess!!

  • The 6th gear is too long.

If the 6th gear was a bit shorter, the top end would be higher.

  • The gear ratio is too short

  • Why do you think it's too short?

  • WOW Nice, my old 16v had a rev limiter, so when I het redline, I bogged down... learned not to redline it ;)

I love MK1 MR2's, I hope to have another in the near future.

  • good stuff! (hope you found a save road to do it on ;))

  • Safe roads are key, though the car being pylons idea is fun sometimes too.

  • These realy rev out well and get there top speed pretty fast!

  • That wasn't top speed.

    I had 1 gear (6th) left! =)

  • hi is it a easy fit putting a 20v 1.6 in a aw11 mr2?

  • Yes, it's very easy.

The worst thing about the swap is the wiring harness.

If you can't do it, there are a few other guys who are willing to do it for you, so it shouldn't be a problem.

  • Nice!!!

one quichk question: What gearbox are you running?

  • C160 6-speed tranny

  • wow that sounded cool and seemed quick

  • Good shifting, awesome sounding engine.

  • cool mk1 -- always liked them

I've got a modified mk2 turbo, totally different sorta beast, though both're fun

  • I'm*

  • I saving up atm for my 6speed blacktop, damn awesome run.

  • Thanks :)

  • yeah that pretty fast!! this is a stock mr2 20 valves????

  • It's a MR2 with a near stock 20V in it

  • is this the 6 speed version?

  • Yup, it was a 6spd tranny

  • haha i allways use this vid to let peepz hear how a 4age is SUPPOSED to sound.

  • Thanks! =)

  • lol, X2

  • 7MPower, please let me know what exhaust you are running on that car.

    Thanks in advance.

  • I'm running a Mongoose exhaust.

It's a bit too silent for me, 'cause all I hear is the intake-roar from the ITB's, so I'm planning to use a bike silencer with a removable dB-killer.

  • Great video, hoping to get myself a blacktop soon. Great inspiration! Lovely sound :)

  • Thank you! =)

  • Just wondering... did you have the speed cut removed? Which device did you use?

My 5spd limits at about 190km/h though.

  • When I filmed this movie, I made a switch in the SPD-wire.

Now I've installed a HKS SLD Type I

  • cam black top beat a civic b16a?

  • I never raced a Civic with a B16Ax engine, so I don't know.

  • depends on the car.

black top in an mr2 will win round the track, but not in drag.

o and you need a crx to stand a chance to win in a straight line.

I know the crx is for ricers, but it IS seriously fast because it ways about as much as a patio heater, and is the most aerodynamic shape available(for a good price).

  • Thank you! This is bloody awesome, despite the conservative start, if i'm counting correctly you did 100mph (160kph) in around 12 seconds! That's phenominal. Do the 75mm stacks really make that much difference? Have you thought about getting some TODA camshafts? I am thinking of doing the blacktop in an old MR2 myself and you've nearly convinced me ^_^

  • Sorry it seems to take 14 seconds (ish) to hit 100 still bloody good though

  • Thanks! =)

I don't know if the stacks make a huge difference, because I've never driven with the stock stacks and airbox.

I'm thinking about getting some TODA cams and a programmable EMS, but I have to look further into that before buying (duh) =)

  • holy fuck dat fuken fast and quick bro wtf !

  • oh thanks. so does the silvertops pull faster than the blacktops?

  • No, a silvertop can handle (more) boost then a blacktop.

  • i got a 93 corolla 20 valve blacktop but i'm planning on boost it. i'm wondering if i should boost it r just leave it all motor.

  • Personally I like all-motor better then boost, in a compact lightweight car.

But if you're planning on boosting it, I recommend using a 4A-GE 16V or a 4A-GE 20V Silvertop, because of their beefier internals.

The 20V Blacktop internals are too weak (because they're lightweight) to be reliable in boosted applications.

  • I don't know how fast a stock Levin (AE101) is, but my MR2 is about 1020kg.

It has a 6spd tranny in stead of a 5spd in the Levin

    A 6spd is way faster then a 5spd.

    A 6spd AE111 is .4 secs faster on the 1/4mile (402m) then a 5spd AE111 wich is a huge difference

  • Yep, the 6 speed conversion in my 16V 86 MR2 made a HUGE difference! At least a full second in 0-60 improvement.

  • When do you move out of CA, so you van swap a 20V? =)

  • I wish I could, but my jobs are here. One of these days, I'll have my Blacktop though........

  • 0-200 in 29 seconds..not bad..not bad at all..in fact thats fast.nice job

  • Do you know where i can find that swap, because i've been looking all over for it and can't seem to find it.

  • eBay is full of 4A-GE 20V Blacktop with 5 of 6-speed gearboxes, so you shouldn't have any problems finding it =)

  • HA HA, THERE IS NO WAY THAT THING TOOK THE BIKE YOU HAVE POSTED UP. thats why i hate stupid ass import punks like you, stop giving imports such a bad rap.

  • " MR2 1.6 20V Blacktop vs. Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R (25kW)"

Do you notice the (25kW) part at the end?

Thats the power the bike is producing, because it's restricted due to age regulations!!

So STFU and start READING MOFO!

I hate morrons like you, because you're giving American ppl a bad rap, loser!

  • I agree but he does have cobra in his name and mustang owners are morons indeed. No offense I know this thing is probaly lightly modded but you're 0-60 is about 12 seconds =(, granted it does keep pulling most cars would take forever to get up there passed about 80 due to gearing. You should put an inline 6 in it, that would be sick.

  • 0-60mph in 12secs? LMAO

    I start accelerating from 0:3,5secs and hits 62mph (100km/h @ 0:11)

It was a bad start, but if I launch this baby I'm doing 0-62 in 6,8sec and the 1/4mile in 14,8sec

Not bad for a engine without even the slightest bit of torque and 2 gearshifts to reach 62mph (1->2 and 2->3)

  • it starts at 2 seconds actually and ends at 15. Just for the half seconds I dropped it to 12 seconds insted of 13. and even if its 11 like you say, and or if you launch it like you say 6.8 still isn't fast. My prix does 0-60 in 5.4 and only runs the 1/4 in 14.7 with a bad crank none the less. Theres no way you would do 14.8 with that much slower of a car dude.

  • Ends at 15???

    62mph = 100km/h, not 160km/h!!

    0-60 in 5.4sec and the 1/4mile in 14,7??

There's seriously something wrong with your car then!!

  • Actually there is something wrong with my car, bad crank bearings, bad timing due to the HB off set from the crank bearings, bad torque mounts. And I thought 60mph was equal to like 107km? Kind of hard to tell where that is with the fuzzy camera. Besides why would you say 1/4 mile when you're in Europe? Isn't it 400meters down there? Thats actually less then a 1/4 mile you know, so you would actually run a bit faster because of that.

  • LOL

    60mph = 96km/h

    62mph = 100km/h

We use 1/8mile (201m) and 1/4mile (402m) for dragracing over here too =)

  • Meh its still over 10 seconds 0-60. I don't see that doing 14.8 in the 1/4.

  • It isn't!

    Look!!

    Start accelerating @ 0:03 and I hit 100km/h (so OVER 60mph) @ 0:10

    10 minus 3 = 7secs

  • seens to start more at 2, you can see you're RPM drop as in your clutch let out, not my fault it takes forever to pick up...

  • Believe me when I say start accelerating @ 0:03

    It was me driving ffs!

  • I guess your RPM gauge is on the frits then =X.

  • Maybe you should check the RPM fluid =P

  • 1 mile equals 1.6093 km

in europe its "402 meters" no "400 meters"

    402*4 = 1.608km meaning that..

a mile is 1609meters so the quarter of that number is 402,25meters..

so you guys in the states are runing 0,25meters more in the strip which is 25cm or 250mm or 0.820209 ft

wow..the i guess that our 10 second cars(in europe) can be compared with your 7 second cars..

you are joking..right?my dick is bigger than that!

  • Just because 400 meters isnt a quarter mile doesnt mean they use 402 meters rather then 400...And my point of 0-60 being is all the little ricer kids think that American cars are "tuned down" which they are to an extent, but they don't understand that almost all countries have emissions laws these days. And btw you sound like a little kid to boot with the immature commenting.

  • they use 402 meters in europe.its just common sense to refer to the drag strip as "400 meter race", but the dragstrip is 402 long.now as for my comment ,whats more stupid?saying that "you guys in europe should be running better times cause you have smaller drag strip"?or explaining to the guy that said that, that he is making fool of himself by saying that?

  • That was kind of the point actually. 2.0 extra meter should shave off 8 one houndreds of a second, but I didn't know it was actually 402 meters, as for I do not live in Europe.

  • And this is kind of swaying from my original point anyways. All I'm saying is you little ricers say imports in europe are faster because they're not tuned down...Well thats some what true but not as much as they seem to think. My ever day driver is a giant heavy v6 only and it would stomp this MR2 into the ground.

  • nice shifting

  • Nice. What do you figure your power output is? I have an 89 SC and it's a blast to drive. Check out my vid I have of it.

  • Thanks!

    About 170 @ crank

  • Awesome! You could do with some more petrol though. :P

  • isnt the c160 fron the celica or is that the 6spd blacktop tranny?

  • C160 = AE111 tranny

    C60 = Celica tranny

They both have the same gear ratios.

  • i see.

  • sounds awesome! hopefully mine will sound like that when I do the BT swap into my AW11 :D

  • ha. i hate you guys... lol i can't afford that shit for my AW11

  • well a silvertop is only like $1000

  • But a BT and C160 isn't :P

  • Do you have any aftermarket mods on this engine? The revs are quite impressive!

I'm doing a BT swap in my 88 AW11 and I'm installing a Toda 4.2kg flywheel, centerfore dual friction clutch and all LT weight pulleys. I hope the revs are as impressive as yours without the 6th speed.

  • The only mods atm are 75mm T3 velocity stacks, a custom exhaust system without a catalyc converter and a TRD clutch kit.

    I think a 6-spd gearbox is a must!

The gear ratios of the C56 gearbox are just too wide.

    The C50/C52 is even worse!

  • I have an 86 with a c50 or c52, I rather like the gear ratio, 3rd gear is so wide, other cars would be into 4th and loose pick-up. 5th gear was pritty usless where I live though, the car does 220k in 4th at around 8500 rpm. 4age 16v, bored to .040, comprestion 10.2-1, JE psitons, cam dur at .010 lift 288 intake and exh, duel webber 45dcoe, MSD, TRD headers and SC MR2 pipe, shaved flyw, 16in rim are the basic specs
