What is even worse is that you are only looking at wages, not total compensation. Only a fool would think a job that pays $40,000 a year with no benefits would be better than a job that pays $38,000 with $5,000 in non-wage benefits.
True, however, no matter what measurement you use, the income gap is always shown to be widening. It's a problem if wealthiest 10% make 50% of the income. They need to pay their fair share. Slashing their taxes is not the answer.

Wealth is not a big issue, because prices for products adjust to shifts in supply and demand. Over the past 20 years as wealth has accumulated to a few, prices have risen more rapidly for high end products. This is consistent with Hayek's definition of inflation (growth in the money supply). However if you give lots of power to a few people (Bush/Cheyney/Obama/Pelosi/etc) prices will not adjust to supply and demand, because they have the power to keep prices from moving to equilibrium.
The increase in tuition has been a result of stupid government policy. Every few years people complain that EVERYONE can not afford college, so the government throws more money at universities (through subsidies). Colleges take these subsidies and increase prices equal to that subsidies. Supply and demand remains in balance and the colleges mooch off the government. The people who lose are the ones that are not smart enough to take advantage of all the government subsidies.

I don't believe in handouts. I do believe in a strong economy and that means proper distribution of wealth. Have you ever been to a country without distribution of wealth or without social programs and a two tiered social structure? (rich and poor) They are living hell holes. clinton's tax hikes caused recession in 1993. factories closed, US workers got laid off, mexicans flooded in, and companies left the US. the tech bubble caused by windows 95 and the internet boom is the only thing that saved us. that bubble along with the housing bubble that both parties are caused have burst. there is nothing on the horizon to replace them, no next big thing. if obama raises taxes there will be a stagflated/depressed economy, much worse than the mild recession we have today.
Clintons tax hikes did not cause a recession. A recession from taxes takes years to make, there is no "sudden" recession from taxes unless the increase is so high that people are losing a drastic amount in the range of 30% higher taxes.

Mikister: Household income is a terrible measure to look at over time. You do realize that the average household size has fallen by 30% or so. What is even worse is that you are only looking at wages, not total compensation. Only a fool would think a job that pays $40,000 a year with no benefits would be better than a job that pays $38,000 with $5,000 in non-wage benefits.

Wealth is not a big issue, because prices for products adjust to shifts in supply and demand. Over the past 20 years as wealth has accumulated to a few, prices have risen more rapidly for high end products. This is consistent with Hayek's definition of inflation (growth in the money supply). However if you give lots of power to a few people (Bush/Cheyney/Obama/Pelosi/etc) prices will not adjust to supply and demand, because they have the power to keep prices from moving to equilibrium.

The increase in tuition has been a result of stupid government policy. Every few years people complain that EVERYONE can not afford college, so the government throws more money at universities (through subsidies). Colleges take these subsidies and increase prices equal to that subsidies. Supply and demand remains in balance and the colleges mooch off the government. The people who lose are the ones that are not smart enough to take advantage of all the government subsidies.

I don't believe in handouts. I do believe in a strong economy and that means proper distribution of wealth. Have you ever been to a country without distribution of wealth or without social programs and a two tiered social structure? (rich and poor) They are living hell holes. Proper distribution of wealth does not mean that you have to just give the money away though. That is one of the biggest problems with welfare in my opinion. Make people work for their money.

Thanks I watched the video. It looks like he has a pretty solid plan. Great video and he is only planing on raising the cost by 6 billion a year for all nations. WOW, that's cheap in comparison to the $600-1,300 Billion that we spent in Iraq that we KNOW hate us. Obama looks like he is going to save us a lot of money and make us safer doing it. From 2001 to 2004 the wealthy in America saw a drop in taxes from 33% to 26.7% and all sheep bowed to him for it.
It didnt help the economy even remotely as more jobs left America than ever before.

Actually, the problem was a 2003 Bush law change to the regulating agency for Fannie/Freddie
Which allowed them to accept 12% interest third party loans, instead of issuing their own 3-5% loans inhouse.
All of the sudden, the amount of loans issued by F/F dropped like a rock.

If you think that he's going to base his economics on an equal distribution scheme, like in a Utopian Communist kind of way, I could understand your concern. Simply put, I think some of the wealthiest Americans are afraid that theyve got a Robin Hood scenario on their hands.
It comes down to this: horde the money for the wealthy, or spread it around to the middle classes. Really, theres little doubt there will be losses in wealth; it all depends on who loses it.

I'm trying to decide if I should vote for Obama just so this generation can witness first hand how horrible radical liberalism is and what is does. The last time America learned that lesson was with Carter, and that brought on the Conservative movement under Reagan. Kids today dont understand, they werent there. So do I vote for the false-hype to teach them a political lesson or do I go with McCain. Its hard, I almost feel obligated to help these dumb voters burn themselves on the liberal stove.

clinton's tax hikes caused recession in 1993. factories closed, US workers got laid off, mexicans flooded in, and companies left the US. the tech bubble caused by windows 95 and the internet boom is the only thing that saved us. that bubble along with the housing bubble that both parties are caused have burst. there is nothing on the horizon to replace them, no next big thing. if obama raises taxes there will be a stagflated/depressed economy, much worse than the mild recession we have today.

Clintons tax hikes did not cause a recession. A recession from taxes takes years to make, there is no "sudden" recession from taxes unless the increase is so high that people are losing a drastic amount in the range of 30% higher taxes.
