Madsen Light Machine Gun

Is that a WW1 manufactured tripod or was it designed later ? Looks similar to the German manufactured "Lafette" tripod for the MG34 & 42, so I was thinking that perhaps the German design is an improved copy ?

I know that the soft recoil system on the German Lafette tripod vastly increased the accuracy of automatic fire compared to older tripods. So I'd imagine that a tripod mounted Madsen LMG would be about the most accurate MG during WW1 when compared to the solidly mounted Maxim guns.

@bellator11 I don't know the exact year of mfg of the Madsen tripods... but I believe it was sometime in between WW1 and WW2. The Germans borrowed some of the designs for their Lafette Mount, including the soft recoil concept and the remote trigger (Bowden Cable) from the Madsen tripod. As far as accuracy, the MG08 or Vickers were quite accurate due to the total weight of the guns and tripod. They were so heavy there was very little movement when firing!

Impressive piece of history you've got there! Gran Chaco War, Chinese Civil War (usually as the "Rex"), WW1 Russian Army, Russo-Japanese War (Russian Army cavalry), WW1 German Army ("Musketen Battalions"), WW2 Norwegian Army, even turned up in Vietnam 1960s, and lately in the hands of Brazilian paramilitary police in a shootout with local gang members in Rio. This little gun from Denmark did get around... thanks for preserving this piece of history!

@michoi2 With the movement of the tripod and recoil mechanism during firing, there is probably a 3-4 inch spread at 100 yards.

Just so you know, "spread" is used to describe the pattern of a shotgun round, while "group" is used to describe a series of rifle shots.

i think it is clever thinking that you can lay down and fire that makes it harder for the enemies to see you but then you dont know where you are firering
