This song always reminds me of a short story by Ray Bradbury called: There will come Soft Rains. It's about an automated house that sits alone waiting for people to come home.
Never got to see them live...but Holy crap, they are coked up beyond belief...pretty robotic performance, the sheen, and Jeff's shades...them pupils must be saucers. I love their music and would have died to see them perform but a relatively emotionless set (all vids from this show) would have confirmed to me that they were best as a studio act.
@sybilnerf You sing the same song in concert night after night for as many years as ELO has, and see if you retain the amount of emotion that was once evident in earlier performances. I don't think they were on drugs during this concert. I think they might be tired of singing this song.
@conservatory ELO holds the record for having the most Billboard Hot 100 Top 40 hits of any band in US chart history without ever having a number one single. The Artists With the Most U.S. Top 40 Singles Elvis Presley with 114, Elton John with 59, The Beatles with 52 and so on...
This is a great DVD. The quality is excellent and the new band (I think the only carryover is Richard Tandy) is very good. Yes, agree, Jeff Lynne is ELO. Whatever he does is ELO.
I grew up on this. Amazing music that cannot even be compared to what is popular today. I don't say that from a vacuum. I love a lot of new music and bands, but if they have even a bit of integrity they will admit this was music that they aspire towards.
I have been to well over 200 concerts, the first one was in 1976, this is one band I never had the pleasure of seeing, I wanted to to see them so bad. I love all of their music
It's a shame this gem of a band that Jeff put together never made a full concert run back then. It was certainly not a major hall filler, but would have made for some great club and smaller venues.
@SrSRuiz I believe there actually three original members. Jeff Lynne, the keboardist and the drummer. Also, one of the guitarists is Neil Aspinall, who played with George Harrison and is featured in the Concert for George performance of 2002. He is one of the finest slide players in the business. There isn't one musition on that stage who isn't worthy of high praise.
Yeh this is defintely no mime job. I never thought they could recreate the recorded sound live but I'm VERY happy to hear I was wrong! By the way, forgive my ignorance but whose the gorgeous blond on Jeff's right???

Listen to the any other version, they all sound the same. Which means one, their lipsnycing and two, the cunt dancing is not contributing anything to the song at all other than acknowledging that she must give good head to be allowed to share the stage...
@jonesbones638 I don't think you have good hearing. This is not lip syncing. The original track is a much more dense and layered track. This is a live performance and it's obvious.
