  • re 4:58 an inquiry about their welfare, I need to do that more

  • Ladies first, because they KNOW to pay my fare.

  • Jack seems a little creepy when he is staring at the teacher.

  • I'm 30 seconds in and don't want to waste time watching this shit (we all have better things to do), but I have one thing to say.

Mind your manners? Look at the outfit that watress is wearing! What manners were involved when some douchebag employer forced her to wear that stupid thing? Putting some guy on the street in a hot dog suit, forcing them to dance while holding a sign is SUPER disrespectful. Instead of being thoughtlessly amused we should be upset at this lack of respect.

  • You know, what I think is ridiculous is the fact that this is considered archaic! I'm sixteen and, with the obvious exception of all this ladies first stuff, which I don't really care for anyway (and I'm a girl), I and people I think of as well mannered do EVERYTHING here! I don't think it's good manners to not say please and thank you, to gossip in class, to be rude to your parents! Isn't this common sense? What are we coming to that letting someone borrow something is considered outdated?

  • 6:33 what is with that lustful look? LOL!!!!

  • The people in these films watch today's society, and they weep.

  • "Fine boy that Jack Connors. I'll recruit him for the Anti-Commie League meeting, he'll fit right in. And I'll give him a good job when he gets to be of proper age."

  • I laughed so much when h escorted the women out o the buss : DD

  • watch out!, your manners are showing

oh btw, you manners are showing.

Did you know.. your manners are showing ;)

  • Mens's cut hair style was horrific !!!!

  • "Ladies, let the men help, they enjoy it." There are some men who believe being a gentleman never goes out of style! Men can get charged with sexual harassment, for demonstrating kindness and consideration to a woman.

  • Yikes, I wouldn't like to be Jack's sister. I'm squirming just watching this.

  • What's wrong with what she's wearing, Jack? Seems good enough for a picnic. *smh*

  • @WynnterReverie No exactly, that dress seems too much openly cut.....for a picnic wher surely you have to sit down on grass....

  • I wish people had good manners...

  • I bet Jack's not a virgin acting like this:)

  • Thumbs Up If You Got Here From Chiddy Bang!

  • Some of them chicks sure are ugly.

  • ....and see...8:36 about loose mufflers wouldnt bother me....i mean, what if the person can't afford to get thier car fixed? no biggie there

  • some of this is a little formal but some of this is really needed. just everyday common courtesy. some of these ppl are so rude for no reason it makes me ill. they need to watch this video and really absorb it , no lie

  • I noticed that none of them tanks the waitress, and in fact were conversing among themselves, not even giving her eye contact. Doesn't seem very nice to me.

  • @1koalafrappe1 *thanked

  • I think this video exists precisely because these kind of manners DIDN'T exist in the 1950s with kids of Jacks age. It has always been amusing to me that the 1950s is linked with polite society when it was this generation that went nuts in the 1960s and completely rejected conforming to these forms of behaviour. If you want to find truly courteous people as the norm you need to go back further than this.

  • @JoaquinAndThePenguin. Of course there's no Black people in these films That's what makes these movies so beautiful today! Vale America!

  • @dogshy61 they're to busy in the fields pickin' cotton 19hrs a day fo scraps!!!

  • A world without manners is a world where we are cursed into listening to Dr. Laura abuse callers. If we'd all just get along, she would retire.

  • If only people learned that it is okay to be polite. You don't have to bend over backwards to please people but, a simple "excuse me" or a "please" or a "thank you" show people that you care enough to be respectful. There is nothing wrong with being kind, it takes nothing away from you.

  • because good manners have to do with how well people like you because people liking you is more important than anything kids

  • Why is there an old woman on the school bus? Seems kind of random.

  • the only way not to die virgin after following this video would be either rape or a blind person.

  • If only people could still stay to the side of the hallway while walking slowly >_>

  • Wow. This is like the only Coronet propaganda film that isn't complete BS.

  • here is advice i learned, dont be a ass or b-bag to anyone and u will be just fine , no need to watch a video to learn that

  • @heat15sw The vast majority of pedestrians seem to need to be told not to walk two abreast on the pavement. This should be played to people in their sleep, if you ask me.

  • oh no look how backwards and crazy people used to be back then. what a bunch of goodie two shoe pansies!

  • As goofy as some people may think this is, it is a shame people don't use manners and good behavior with others anymore. I think it is one reason our society is in the shape it is in.

  • @Miss65boo you think?

  • @Miss65boo i was just thinking the same thing. my mother was born in 45 and she raised me with a strict code to manners. i mean you can be casual and up to date with it. it doesnt have to be all old fashioned. but i notice alot of ppl dont have common manners these days. i think they'd be surprised to see how far common courtesy and manners can get them

  • @Miss65boo Pardon me, but that is not REALLY true. There are less polite people, however, not by much. And also, our manners have changed from back then. Like for an example, it used to be polite here in the US to keep your hands on your lap while eating, but that changed to having to keep your hands on the table, due to other countries having the same manners. And when someone thanks you, it is now okay to say No Problem. Do you understand? Also, i barely know any rude people. Only a handful.

  • @kpmonkeygirl 'No problem?' How horrid!

'Mention not' or a soft smile can be of better effect..

  • @sinoples That is not really true. That does not fall under manners. That falls under what is appropriate.

  • Until Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white man on a bus and started the Civil Rights Movement.

  • Yes. That theme was used at the beginning of What's My Line? back in the 50's.

  • Your manners are showing!

  • Dad is working late, playing annonymous corporate puppet. Mom is over at the neighbor's, smoking and getting wasted on booze. So, the kids have free reign.

  • Why is Marge dressed like Dale Evans?

If Jack really respected his mother, he would have helped her to make breakfast.

  • There never seems to be any black people in these videos..

  • make sure everyone is at ease. ARE YOU AT EASE BE AT EASE

  • Of course if everyone was white this video is how America would be, just some food for thought.

  • Jack is so insanely polite it boggles the mind. His parents should be proud! Honestly, you don't see manners like this anywhere. It would be nice to see some manners make a comeback.

  • Good Manners?I beg you pardon. He picked some string off his sisters dress and flicked it on the floor....Oh how very rude!Who is gonna pick that up Jack?Who

  • now we just have to make a video about Victorian manners!! :D

ppl these days are SO UNBELIEVABLY RUDE its astounding!!

  • And then by 1965 these sweet "polite" youth went insane and started dropping acid, and rejecting all the trappings of pseudo polite society. Whew!! what a relief.

  • Chiddy Bang!!

On Topic: This was a pleasant video.

  • @5:20..the bus driver didn't show very good manners when he pulled away from the curb without waiting for the kids who just boarded to be safely seated. XD

  • @KckStartMyHeart I want to know how many people Jack stepped on to be the first one off the bus at school even though he was sitting in the back row.

  • Girls let the man help is a good one

  • Wait one moment. He threw that piece of lint from his sister's dress on the floor. That makes the floor dirty and his mother has spent hours on her knees scrubbing that floor to a perfect shine. Bad, Jack, bad!! You have disappointed me. I now know your good manners are just a charade. >:(

  • ladies first.. i always like it when a guy opens a door for me & such.. it's gentlemanly

  • @phonegalfitness It's ladies first so that the guy can check out the girls ass :)

  • "Ladies first" so the girls understand we support gender equality.

  • @kablamo9999 It's ladies first so that the guy can check out the girls ass :)

  • @RedTailedTuna That actually makes sense :)

  • I'm supposed to give the ladies a hand getting off the bus? Now it's just getting ridiculous.

  • @kablamo9999 Since this film was made in the fifties I'm sure you'll survive any radical ideas it introduces.

  • It's really wonderful when someone gives you a warm "good morning" upon entering the workplace. The day is so much brighter. It would do us all good to acknowledge each other more in a kind, pleasant manner with a warm smile.

  • Home economics? What kind of bullshit is that?

  • Im a teenager... You try talking like that now and your friends will ask you "What the fuck is wrong with you"? so I have no friends because of my manners.

  • It's a shame that girls nowadays go for the bad boys.

  • @MrGotsquashed Girls have always been attracted to the bad boys. Even in movies from the '50s you'll see that many of the male sex symbols are typically "bad boys". James Dean is one of the baddest boys of all time.

  • Since this was the 50's you'd think during the bus scene when they were showing "bad manners" they would insert an African-American with the NERVE to sit in the front!

  • 10:23 gene: "after dinner, we'll go down to the park and smoke a doobie"

  • I cant think of anything but the outrageousness of this boys unibrow.

  • We watched these in school ,even the teachers laughed. Most kids put there head on the desk and tried to sleep though it. Mostly, i think teachers were behind on grading tests, so the showed these, to catch up on work. Believe me i was there, we never acted like these kids in the movies .

  • Yes, it was right for jack to open the front door, and let his sister go out first, however as there were steps going down from the house, i was always taught to go down first, that way if the lady fell, you were there to catch her, so she didn't fall down on the hard ground.

  • @burt649 ow wow.... I didn't know that thanks for the info :D

  • @burt649 Because girls can not be trusted to walk down the steps.

  • @burt649 They also didn't mention how Jack stepped around his sister to walk on the street side of the sidewalk. That was etiquette, too.

  • Comment removed

  • Wow. More evidence of Borg infiltration into our 1950s culture. Conform, conform, conform. Be just like everyone else. No wonder the hippies went nuts in the '60s. (Of course, the drugs helped.)

  • Oh man, the world would be soo boring if everyone behaved like that...

  • Let's all try to show our good manners.

  • Judging from the opening scene, they should have called this movie on dating manners, "Going Dutch." : - )

  • oh the music in the beginning is called ''Melody In Moccasins'' its on itunes!

  • "When Jack leaves the house with a lady, it's ladies first. :D Yes, even with his sister. =w="

  • Jack Conners: an island of politness in a world of incivility

  • I plan to force my cousins into watching this next time they come over and want to use my computer. I'll have a quiz afterwards that they'll have to pass. Nothing's ever happy for them if it doesn't go exactly their way... their lack of "manners" makes them real wet blankets. Also, really annoying, especially since they're old enough to know how to act around people. Should be fun to see them suffer through this.

  • theese films are spoof worthy

  • man, I wish I had a big brother like Jack!

  • I like the "ladies first" part of the video :D

  • I guess back in the 50s the local Dutch restaraunt was the place for the kids to hang out.

  • Show good manners, be polite and considerate, or you will be executed as a communist.

  • In 2010, it'd be like: "GET TO THE POINT ALREADY!"

  • I live in the South, and actually its not much different with our manners today as then. People are surprised at how well mannered we are. We just talk behind people's backs when they're not looking.

  • @VASINGER thanks to my job, I meet many people from all around the world. the nicest people I meet are always from the south.

  • but sometimes manners seems to take an effort and not always easy.

  • The rule "ladies first" is timeless.

  • Fine boy,that Jack Connors.such good manners.

  • This is one of the reasons why i love England. People there are very mannered. They threat you like a potential friend rather than potential enemy.

  • @chujciwmame i find the British people to be very rude and unfriendly.

  • @VASINGER

Well that seems unlikely. Have you been living there for a while, or have you just met some British where you live?

Obviously you never been to Poland (where I come from).

  • @chujciwmame I just know some here in the states , and overall they are less mannerly than American are. They tend to be aloof and un-friendly. Also, I have encountered many online and they are very very rude. Use language that would make a sailor. Despite Americans being a little more "forward", overall Americans have better manners and more polite than the UK.

  • @VASINGER

I'm basing this on my own experience, that most nations, including English, Irish, Polish and other act compeletely different outside their own countries.

More then often I myself suffer from bad attitude only because some folks in a country i'm visiting at that time already met immigrants or visitors from Poland before.

And I believe that might be the problem in your case. I hope you'll understand what I am trying to say, even though English is not my first language.

  • @chujciwmame I live in Poland. some people are very nice but I got robbed 4 times in 2 months here and sometimes when we go to a bar, people call my friends pomeranchovy(becouse they are brunettes) and ask us to leave.

  • @monroekissedme ummm whats pomeranchovy??? n y r brunettes called that

  • @sarahgal19 it means "orange". and they say it to middle eastern people here becouse they have dark skin.

  • @monroekissedme interesting and weird. So stupid. Why wuldnt they call them something more tan. Like a potato or sumthing lol. But yea thats just dumb. Haters suck. People are much more then their skin color

  • People seemed more polite in the 50's compaired to today standards

  • When he told his dad he had a date that night he didn't tell him about the pocket full of condoms. I guess that wouldn't be polite.

  • Kids these days could sure use some manners.

  • @qwertasdcfghjklmo24z so can adults!

  • Jeezis--did EVERY family in the fifties have two children: a son and daughter? This is the sixth propaganda film I've seen and every one of them has the same, damn family!

  • @devospud Interesting analogy for a film that was made reflecting the culture that had played an instrumental part in defeating the Nazis less than a decade before. So our lives would have been the same whether we had won or lost?

  • lol I love it. it's kinda painful

  • I do not believe that just because she asked, it shall be, parents make us to believe that when it is asked politely - it must be, IF IT WAS MINE I Could say Screw off, "Please" - that would have to be an accepted answer , right?

  • Society has gone to the dogs.

  • @AcePilot101 i know right! women and blacks can vote? what the fuck!

  • @AcePilot101 It is doubtful that they would make a film about the need for manners if the lack of manners wasn't a problem. That would be like making a film about the need for electric lights today.

  • @AcePilot101 and guess what. you're the ilk are the after meal milk bones

  • Lovely stuff.

  • Would like to see a Three Stooges parody of this.

  • hahahahaha 9:59

  • People could still learn a lot from this video.

  • Jack is a BABE.

  • This needs to be in every high school and Junior high school.

  • @feesterboy1 MARGE AND JACK SHOW GOOD MANNERS your manners are showing !

  • "There's Jack giving the teacher his best attention."

*I AM STARING INTO YOUR SOUL!*

    "Good manners again."

  • The car is going like 10 mph

  • Refering to the United States WKCarbine.

  • these manners must be back at these modern age.

  • Good manners seems to have been forgotten in this country. Even today this video has lessons to learn by us, we've all been guilty of being inconciderate at times.

  • @cmg82g Which country?

  • @cmg82g Amen !

  • @cmg82g Go fuck yourself! HAHAHAHA

  • insane

  • I like good manners.

    Good manners make a difference.

    They aren't out of time.

But, in my personal opinion, this kind of videos are kind of "dictatorship" statement.

  • @ChronoHellsing

Personally, this sign 0:21 Seems rather...Creepy?

  • @ChronoHellsing I think what you mean is that it seems like a propaganda film. Which really is just the curse of it being from the 50's, where very informative video was done in exactly the same style, no matter what. I think this video is fine for what it is, and if it were updated a little, we might be able to teach people about how awesome it is to have good manners. Because i don't know about the rest of you, but I'm pretty sick of the disrespect that is so rampant in society today.

  • @ChronoHellsing yeah but the message they give is pretty good.

I guess i have a lot to learn from "jack" despite shaggylocks' warning intro ;D

  • I think manners are a thing of the past!!!Its nice to see a video that reminds me of those days!

  • @welshtia

thing of the past for sure.

  • i finally figured out what kinda car that is. 1939 plymouth.

  • THESE ARE THE BEST SHORT VIDEOS EVER! I am so much cooler than these kids!

  • @MolkoxLewd Are you now? Too cool for manners, I am sure.

  • @babehurst88

Well isn't that unkind of you! You come off rather assuming, considering we're strangers. I'll not even bother mentioning how condescending you are...oh wait, I just did.

  • @MolkoxLewd

    LOL. Touche'. Nice one!

  • In Japan they have these maid cafes when the waitresses dress in maid costumes. What was this resturant a kind of Dutch versioin. And weren't those high school girls hot! You think if I got me some of them there good manners I could get me one to go out with ?

  • "Fine boy that John Connor!"

  • "You can be direct & brief on the phone." I love it! Great video, I wish more people watched this.

  • I wanna see the Porno Version of this movie.

  • Jack is a sweetie! Wish there were more people around like this.

  • @Snapepet he is kinda dreamy ;-)

  • yes........let the men help they enjoy it

  • im seriously like ur old fashioned 1940-1950s girl when it comes to manners and stuff like this. I wanna raise my children like this. Manners matter, Im also think ill be like the old 1940-1950s wife. I feel that my soul responsibility is to raise my husband and children.

  • WOW! THat teachers hair looks like she left the roller in.

  • I love these instructional films. A good solid point at the core (civility FTW!), yet just enough over the top to be charmingly goofy (oh no! My loose muffler is showing my bad manners!) Thanks for posting them, shaggylocks. You rock, my friend.

  • Kanye West needs to watch this!

  • My husband still practices some of these things. He's always considerate. Would be nice if he would open the car door for me when we go out on a date or push in my chair.

  • ya rt

  • May be this vid should be shown at schools and on home tv! There are very few people practising good manners these days! I say Yeay! To good manners!

Any guy can hold the door open for me any time even if I ride a 900cc motorbike! I love good manners!

  • Nothing wrong with good manners.
