@myka23gourou yes, Gwendolyn died about three years ago. She had a large tumor and she passed away hours before she was scheduled to undergo surgery to try to remove it. Darius also died two years ago. He somehow twisted his spine and became paralyzed in his back legs, and we ordered a custom ferret wheelchair for him, but he took a sudden turn for the worst and we lost him. It is extremely sad to lose a ferret. But they're a joy to have, and it's worth the heartache.

Well, When I bought my ferret, I went into buying him not knowing much about ferrets. The woman at the pet store kept telling us that he was a Marshall. I was really just wondering if that means they were bred to be a certain way, or if they were just better taken care of then most other animals.

@killtanoob ah, well, Marshall are apparently the source of controversy and some people argue that their animals are more susceptible to diseases and shortened life expectancy, and some call them a mill... But I don't know, I didn't really know much about animal origins at all before we got our first ferret.

Also I just asked my wife, and she said our little guy is from a breeder in Quebec, Canada, so I dunno if Marshall has operations there as well or not. The other two were Marshalls, though.

@littleflamestar I never heard of Marshall's being polecat hybrids, but I don't know - I never really looked into that aspect of things.

Ferrets secrete an oil which is what the scent is (assuming you have a descented ferret - most are, as far as I know), and actually, bathing them causes them to secrete the oils, and makes the scent worse. Bathing ferrets is really only needed rarely, or if they get dirty somehow.

@killtanoob yeah, I think so.  Out of curiosity, why do you ask? I think most ferrets I've seen originate from Marshall Farms.

@redwolffclaw well, sorta. The truth is that all Marshalls have the two-dot tattoos (one for descenting, one for spay/neutering). But many other breeders also do the two-dots, so you can't be sure a ferret is a Marshall if they have the two dots, only that they aren't a Marshall if they don't.

nope, color doesn't define thier gender. Males generally have rounder heads and are larger in size. Females are usually kinda skinny and tend to have a angular face.
