I'm a bassist and i know how the instrument is played. Just because I think that basses over 6 strings are a bit overkill doesn't mean that i am a "dick" and I don't know that there is a difference in sound between the two instruments.I think that you can do almost anything you need to with a 4 string. So, yet again, there's no reason to verbally attack me behind the veil of anonymity of the internet.

a 7 string bass like this gives you the versatility of ultra-low notes, and being able to hit notes just as high as on a guitar, using the high frets, and also artificial harmonics (see steve bailey). can a guitar do that? no. doesn't make a guitar better or worse, but I can see why someone would want a multi-stringed bass over a guitar.

For the multi string bashers, it's a 7 string bass guitar, yes that's GUITAR! there's no rules in music. Plenty of guys can burn on 10 and 11 string basses. They go ultra deep as well as ultra high. Remember folks, it's a bass GUITAR.
