Cartoons this old always seem strange and a bit creepy to me.

When I was a little kid in the late '50s, stuff like this was on TV, but not Disney cartoons - those were only shown on "Mickey Mouse Club" - but by other studios. One character was named Bosco and his cartoons were very much like this, with exaggerated perspective and tinny soundtracks. I didn't think they were funny; they were just strange.

Warner Bros. 1940s cartoons, on the other hand, were my favorites.

This film has an anectedote associated with it. Dave Hand animated the scene where the taxi turns the corner and the license falls off. The scene was rejected by Disney various times because it wasn't exagerated enough until a vengeful Hand animated it so exagerated he thought he would get fired. When Disney saw this version (the one you now see in the film) he proclaimed it was exactly what he had wanted to Hand's surprise.
