That's like describing Hitler's Germany in a detailed paragraph then contrasting it with early American principles and at the end the listener or reader says: "Yup, I agree with Hitler".
In this interview, I think Daschle made some very rational responses. Corelation does not imply causation. In general, the principle that you were suggesting is, I think, correct. But we don't know. Maybe Daschle's right. Maybe healthcare skyrocketed for reasons other than those laws. If we could rerun the experiment, maybe we could rule out unrelated variables. But we can't. As a result, I don't think this interview will convince anyone who disagrees with you.

You should have made it even more clear. If you can go into a store and buy as what as you like and only be charged a penny, would a person end with the same amount of goods had he had to pay full price for everything? If he tries to say yes, he'll be made to look the biggest idiot on the planet.
Typical response by another fibbing politician. Jan's point is valid. However, it's true that in this country we have many people who do not have fair, and adequate access to healthcare. The problem is.... our current system is managed and regulated by the government. Since george bush became president, I have no confidence that our government will honestly and effectively represent all people of this country with the equal rights we're told is the foundation of this country.
Technology should be bringing things down. In technology there are patents. Patents are making the private sector horde patents and keep the little guy from "inventing something" to compete (big corporations buy little guy patents, its a patent game). The government hands out patents too. Microsoft and Apple have been here for 20 years. No one else has come with competition. I respect Linux, it has its own little sectors, I support Linux. Liberty for a little security means A LOT.
Can I personally buy a remedial economics course for Mr. Daschle at the local community college? Maybe we can take up a collection.
When helfeld mentions "free market" you can almost see the stomach acid squirt. ..."My employer, the taxpayer" LOL!
"But to say that's the only factor"... (ie: There are enough "other factors" to allow me "wiggle room" so I don't need to have principles, and can blame the disasterous effects of my policies on minor unrelated factors that muddy the waters...)
This interviewer should have looked into other countries with national health care and how it's working before asking, "If the medical spending will sky rocket?"
In fact, US is the one medical spending is sky rocketing.
Does anybody here thinks medical spending will slow down in the future with the way it is now (meaning w/o national health care)?
It doesn't explain why other countries with health care have 1/3 the growing rate of US.
Having medicare and medicaid are not the same as having everybody under the health care plan. Insurance companies knew it and that's why they didn't put up much fight as much they do now for the national health care.
Sooner or later you'll lose your insurance policy, many people go out without insurance. Premium will go up and keeps going up. It'll be your business how much will the *government* pay you for the treatment.
I hope you'll have a guts to refuse the treatment and let the nature takes care of your end.
Do you know there's no law that limits what the hospital can charge to the uninsured patient? And that it can be 5-8 times the amount they pay for the insurance company because the hospitals are always short of fund? They don't have to explain what you are charged for.
If you can qualify for the Medicaid, they'll pay but it's the same government running health care you are opposing to.
He was appointed by the annointed one, the Muslim Obama. I wonder how many more Gangsters he can put in Government. this guy is a # one Dirt Bag Crook from South Dakota.
Tom is completely naive. He disagrees with the founding fathers of this great country who were for human liberty. I wish people like that would just move to another planet.
It's very unfortunate but the entire foundation of the United States is a hypocrisy. Take the Three-Fifths Compromise for example. Many of the Founding Fathers owned slaves. How much could they possibly have loved and believed in liberty while displaying these actions? Liberty for mankind or for white man? They seem to have been as one sided and hypocritical as modern day politicians. Slavery was legal in the US until 1865. From that point on until 1964 we had Jim Crow laws. I wish it wasn't so.
Jason this is pretty interesting. I was viewing one of my videos when it ended & this video popped up as related or preffered to me according to the vids I watch. Saturday I recieved a letter from Anthem Blue cross Blue shield. It was a very nice form letter stating that my health insurance coverage will increase by 22% this year. I am a self employed small business owner and this is an increase that I did not see coming, had not budgeted for, and will make it very hard for me to provide insurance. This is because of assholes like Daschle who are too far removed from reality positioning for universal health care. DO NOT TRUST ANY OF THESE PEOPLE.

People are forced, at the point of a gun, to pay for his healthcare. Do you think he cares?

Jan,
See Karl Denninger's "marketticker" blog for some very useful ideas regarding timely and critically important questions to ask these clowns.
Media issues are distracting the public.
These people in CONgress are complicit in fraud and looting. They are bringing the system down. We either make them fess up now or it's too late.

It's not a debate, jan, nor is it a lecture. it's an interview. it's where you ask a question and he answers it.
You are a tool. How do you respond to that?
rock90123 1 year ago
Thought I'd give you a second chance Jan and watched the whole thing.
I have to stand by my previous comment.
I agree with your position 100% but you came off shrill.
Are you interviewing or making speeches?
Daschle actually asked you "what do you suggest?"
That's the first time in awhile I've heard a politician ask that, vs telling you "how it is."
You lost this one.
Jyoyo1 2 years ago
Don't get me wrong. I like what you're doing Jan and I love seeing politicians exposed for the idiots most of them are.
But let the guy answer your question for more than 3 seconds before you cut in to repeat the same question! This is not an interrogation.
Let him make his point. That is usually enough to expose their ignorance. Then you can go in for the kill.
I could only watch 56 seconds before quitting in disappointment. Mellow out a bit and use a calm approach.
Jyoyo1 2 years ago
I'm gonna have to agree with this, sorry Jan, not your best interview.
I understand that you are very emotional about these issues, as am I, but you kind of made the Senator look good here.
