Johnny Mathis sung this song on his religious album in the late 50s without Barbara. She simply sung over his song. Check it out without her - so much better.
It is one and the same Avatâra that, having plunged into the ocean of life, rises up in one place and is known as Krishna, and diving again rises in another place and is known as Christ. -RÂMAKRISHNA
One day your christ will come but he will not save. Maybe he will be islams god. Then after the tribulation my God will comeback with His church and angels. Then you might see there is one true God. Islam will be put down or the reigning religion will be.
It makes me want to cry, not only because it is sung by two stunning and beautiful voices but also that the subject matter could be so ridiculous...one god flooding people in Pakistan?...One god polluting the oceans?...One god killing in wars? One god as children die of tragic illnesses?....sing along everyone...
@pantowriter Prove it was God who did those things. And for what reason would God destroy who & what He loves. We are a in the Church Age. God sent His Son...He came and not to judge the world but to save the world. That is not a killing God, not a destroying God...but a loving God. One God, One Name, not by any other way but Jesus to God and the Kingdom of Heaven. This song sounds pretty but is contrary to the Word of God. Merry CHRISTmas.
@bvcmargie too many problems on the planet for there to be a god...too many silly excuses from barking followers as to why things happen,,(example - floods in pakistan...oh god promised not to flood the entire world again...not just parts of it...,,too much hatred from the bible....not enough time to be bothered to finish writing this... move on...I hate even saying goodbye as it means god by you...I hate that.... so I'll just say...it's time to go.
Million of stars place in the sky by one God. Million of us lift us our eyes to ONE God So many children calling his name by many different names.... One Father loving each the same !
I have looked for this song since our choir in Nursing School sang it. It is so beautiful and so appropriate for our world, as we need to focus on the things we share instead of those things that divide us.
"He who has eyes can see the sickening sight, Why does not God set his creatures right? If his wide power no limit can restrain, Why is his hand so rarely spread to bless? Why are his creatures all condemned to pain? Why does he not to all give happiness? Why do fraud, lies, and ignorance prevail? Why triumphs falsehood -- truth and justice fail?
I count your God one among the unjust , who made a world in which to shelter wrong." — Bhuridatta Jataka No. 453
there is only one true God, and man cannot even begin as yet to know His true name,.....We all will bein AWE
the day He shows himself tothe World
He is not whoyou think He is, He is so much more. It is not a case of, my,God, Your God, There isonly one Creator of the Universe, and He is in charge..............After all,,,, He made us all
This song toches within heartes of all religions..to unite at holidays..Christians,Jews Muslims,Buddhists..everyone..blessings an peace, health,an happinessxoxoLisetteMariexoxo
what a wonderful message to the world at christmastime. today is the first time I have heard this song and I'm sat at my computer with tears in my eyes. thank you albert diner
Ecumenism is not Catholic. John himself, the Apostle of love, who seems to reveal in his Gospel the secrets of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and who never ceased to impress on the memories of his followers the new commandment "Love one another," alogether forbid any intercourse with those who professed a mutilated and corrupt version of Christ's teaching: "If any man come to you and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into the house, nor say to him: God speed you."
I was 16 years of age back in '58. I remember so well my initial reaction to the album "Good Night Dear Lord" and most particularly the song "One God." The original album jacket hangs on the wall of my music room along with 4 other Johnny Mathis album jackets---"Johnny's Greatest Hits," "More Johnny's Greatest Hits," "Merry Christmas," and "Heavenly." His voice was unsurpassed in the late 50's and 60's. "One God" is still to me the most beautiful recording I've yet heard with "Stardust" second.
What a beautiful song, and what a beautiful message to hear at this very special time of year...thank you for creating this beautiful moment for me..from the voices of Johnny Mathis and Barbara Streisand..What a blessing for us all! Thank you..
One God, isn´t only Jave or ElShaddai. The images from Israel and the Temple are a part of the Image of God. The One God includ Odin, Zeus, Christ, Krishna, Allah, Tupã, Oxala, and many others Gods. There no exist only Jave. God is more of them!
it's not pro- israeli : but it's to let the people see in visionary, the fact that Jerusalem is the center off all big religions and that's the place were this one God is ; hear the song dude
You can hear Johnny's influence on Barbra-- especially early in her career. She admits that his Goodnight Dear Lord album was the first album she purchased...Both Glorious singers. Thank you for sharing.
albertdiner, you might be surprised but i read streisand's autobiography, the writer said that streisand idolized mathis. it even said when everyone was imitating Elivs, Streisand was imitating Mathis.
Great photos. Up this point I had only read about the wailing wall. Isreal is quite quaint. Video is nicely put together and very inspirational. Good job.
Undeniably gorgeous and compelling, no question there. But my King James Bible says there is only ONE WAY to the Father,,,,,,,,,,,,Y'shua

The concept of "One God" is the basis of the
monotheistic religions: Judaism, then Christianity, and Islam. Jerusalem is known as
the Holy Land, a sacred city to all 3 religions. I chose the jewish holy sites for this video. I'm not very familiar with the
holy sites of the other religions.

Johnny Mathis has had a tremendous influence on Barbra Streisand. Even today, with all her
fame and awards, she feels like a shy little girl when she sees Johnny. Barbra said that
Johnny Mathis 1958 LP DEAR LORD was the basis
for her HIGHER GROUND CD. The song ONE GOD
should have been part of that cd. Yet Barbra
recorded it later and included the song in her
Christmas Memories Cd. I am amazed at how well
their voices blend together.

albertdiner, you might be surprised but i read streisand's autobiography, the writer said that streisand idolized mathis. it even said when everyone was imitating Elivs, Streisand was imitating Mathis.

It would be great if she records another
duet with Johnny Mathis. And Johnny
Mathis wanted to be NAT KING COLE,
but his singing style is totally original.

Johnny Mathis is one of the greatest, most gifted entertainers of his time.

That would be biography, not autobiography. If it was auto, then Barbra would have been the writer.

Nobody sings this song like Johnny Mathis.
To think that he recorded this Lp 50 years ago
is amazing. A 22 yr. old kid.!! Barbra was 60
when she recorded her version of this song.
I like her voice, but sometimes I feel the
audio engineering on this song has to be balanced. There are parts of the song where her voice is in a vacuum and not completely
audible. Johnny Mathis¨version is outstanding
taking into account the audio recording systems
of the late 1950s. Both are great singers.
albertdiner 3 years ago
What a great idea to mix these both versions together. Wonderful, I like it very much.
