  • venus fly trap closes

    fly: am I being punked?

  • The fly is like: wth, if this is a practical joke, it aint funny!

  • nature is....awesome

  • In my field of work i study GMO venus fly traps and we have successfully created genetic anomolies of these plants that are large enough to consume small rodents.

  • i want to know if i but my finger whats will happen to me

  • How long do they stay closed and what happens to the insect?

  • @epicness586 one answer aaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!

  • @epicness586 the fly or what ever it is eating at the time stays in the plant and when it opens again the fly will just be laying there dead since the plant sucked all the protein out of it. i dunno how long the mouth stays closed.

  • Lol...New versoin of saw...Venus fly trap...:P

  • damn nature..you scary!

  • audrey 2 lolxz

  • where did you get it?

  • that was AWSOME!!! I love venus fly traps!!

    ~*Zetsu!!*~

  • "help, help get me out of here........ -tantrum-"

  • only once it was behind locked bars then did it realise how impotant its month long lifespan was.

  • ive never seen a flytrap so big. Mine are about the size of a dime.

  • action starts at 1:00

  • can it sing when yes i want some :D

  • can u buy one ion america

  • @Th3KidVick You don't need to buy one at all. Just go into the forest and search for one. In the sump that's what i did

  • @Th3KidVick duh

  • i had one and i always wanted to know what would happen if i put my finger in it

  • the Audrey 2 of the fly species

  • so does it actually eat the fly or just hold it hostage?

  • @HynCutie Well, it traps the fly, and a while after the fly is enclosed in its mouth, the head will secrete enzymes that will then dissolve the fly, making it able to be digested. It travels down the plant's little neck lol.

  • It's Petey Pirahna

  • Nom Nom Nom... Help meeeee.

  • anyone know how many times ur saposed to water these guys?

  • @Carmine2825 keep adding water in a bowl where the plant is placed in. make sure it's never dry.

  • nom nom :D

  • what happens to the fly?? how does it eat it??

  • @CheerBoyX1 I think it just digests it inside and gets the nutrients from it.

  • @CheerBoyX1 The chemicals in the plants body are given off (some type of sugar..?) from the mouth and over time the fly will dissolve and die (sorta like acid).

  • @CheerBoyX1 it melts from the plants enzymes and is digested by the plant

  • the flys like awe shit god dammit. i left my stove on and i stuck in this shit.

  • whats happening after that eating sitiuation?

is that trap opening?or is that only one time trap?

  • @darkadel If you're asking whether or not the trap opens after it is finished eating then yes. It will do so until it turns brown and dies off as it is really just a form of leaf. I couldn't quite understand the question the way it was worded.

  • @garrenn my english is not good.but im understand.

    i have one question too.

i want to buy these kind of plant.and can i give it sousige or some other human meat?fast food or fruits.

  • @darkadel No never do that. Never feed one of these plants something they can't find in the wild because it will kill them. You can buy crickets from many fishing shops or wax worms. I recommend wax worms and crickets for most of the plants. Fruit flies are pretty good too, but flightless fruit flies are better. If anything you can buy most of these items online for very cheap.

  • there was a red dot on the plant when it closed.

  • i wonder what the fly is thinking

  • @scam43 zomg, how r in prison? i dun commit crime T_T

  • I Have A Venus Fly Trap Where I Live! Its SOOO COOL!

  • Where the heck to u get venus fly traps?

  • i just got 30 sseeds gonna try growing from seed probably difficult

  • @AlienFirefox okay. use spaghnum moss for soil, keep t moist at all times, and for the first year or mayvbe two, in brght indirect sun.

  • thanx mate

  • @AlienFirefox but after that in direct sun. and after 2years it will need dormancy.

  • so much for them bein simple to grow

  • @AlienFirefox THEY ARE! the dormancy just means gve it less light, and cooler temps. you can even put it in fridge! do it in the winter.every year after they turn 2

  • OK CHEERS

  • how does it kill the fly?

  • it releases toxic nectar. :) don't worry , It doesnt efect humans.

  • perfect pet!

eats flies and spiders and almos everything that is smaller and just need to water it

  • Flytraps are awesome, but I have to wait a month for them to be un-dormant. Just got it yesterday!

  • the fly is like ... oh shit

  • That's not right...

  • Great, now imma want to find some flies or something else to feed to my venus fly trap, ahah :)

  • We need to bi engineer some of these things so they are huge. Then if we have war with the vietmenese again we can plat these in the forest and they will eat them.

  • but a forest will not give them enough light, so they will die

  • hmmm good point... Thats why they will be bio engineerd to thrive in low light conditions :)

  • @Killerspider762 lol, that was the funniest thing ive heard all week.

  • @jo2305 Hope I mae you LOL :D

  • @Killerspider762 or put them on the borders LUL

  • @spudders08 hahahaha we would fnaly have a secure border

  • @Killerspider762 dude that hurts sort of...

  • @Killerspider762 But if the fly trap is going to be huge, they will be easily noticeable and will be avoided or shot at.

  • @Killerspider762 GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR........

  • @Killerspider762 It's Vietnamese, learn to spell fucker.

  • @hardclock you sure are butt hurt.

  • @Killerspider762 it's funny because vietnamese people are small :D

  • @niga6000 They don't get that big, sorry.

  • I want one

  • I have one.

  • @15879604 You can find them in The Home Depot. Just go to the "Bug Snatchers" section. of the Nursery.

  • i feed mine with spiders i catch

  • DEAD!

  • whats that laser pointer?

  • lol if you freeze the movie at 0:59 you can see something that looks like a lazer pointer

  • i got mines from

    home depot

    in the plant section

  • I got one from home depot, but it died from a mold infection after two days...

  • hey can u still get venus fly traps? if so where???

  • u can get them from B&Q

  • thats creepy

  • Haha I've just thought of the typical horrofilm watcher infront of that video: "No! Don't go inside there! It's a trap!"

  • I love that plant!!! but it never grow up :( i dont know why ;|

  • you have to put tap water on top of the seeds when it soak in side ok

  • Tap water is bad for them. You either have to use rain water or distilled other wise you'll kill your plant.

  • put distilled water on them

  • MMMMMM TASTY!

  • dionaea... i love that plant :D

  • i cant keep it alive

  • u hav 2 giv it food no more than 1nce a week, keep it in a humidity ov 60 to 80% and never ever ever ever ever let it dry out.

dont give it any nutrients inthe soil... infact u dont put it in soil! put it in a mixture ov peat and spahgnum moss.

    wat r u doin rong!!!!!!

    easy az pie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

holy crap! im turning into a math and science geek! h-e-l-p- m-e!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • thanks a lot!! mine kept dying...! :-(

  • @Kaylan1234567 you are totally wro ng. humdity is a (dumb) myth. there from carolina. i know a grower in the CALIFORNIA DESSERT that grows them. outside.

  • 1.00

look at the right upper side of the plant it's some kind of a laser ?? a red dot

  • yeah i wonder if that somehow made the plant snap down coz it didn't until the lazer came up

  • when the plant closes , its in jail

  • pwnd with all the power of god

  • owned

  • PWND

  • This summer - JAWS 5!

  • i saw mine eat a bee

  • haha ok, I planted my venus fly trap, but it never grow up =(

  • the more the fly struggles the tighter it gets.

  • lol! the fly is like, " Let me out! i didn't do anything wrong!!!!"

  • lol my mom doesnt want me to have one because shes scared it can swallow my bird

  • :P like you never had a mom be too protective

  • wait swallow an actual bird like a sparrow or your figurative bird like um. you know. your thing.

  • ....i have a baby lovebird their small when they crouch

  • @jonus1749 it cant.

  • OMG its alive!!!

  • It's speed is low but is danger

  • what happens after the Venus Fly Trap, Traps a bug....what happens then? (CLICK REPLY HERE)

  • It secretes this strange liquid that kills the animal inside it and slowly decomposes it, then reopens like nothing's happened.

  • human flesh ? youre an idiot

  • Does anyone know what you can use as compost once it grows too big for its pot plz? I know you cant use normal compost. any info would be helpfull, please just send a message to my account.

  • well, yeah you can't use normal compost because these plants rely on different sources of nutrients that they get through their carnivorous nature. A pot of human flesh should be good compost.

  • Oh-what do you know??

    Just kidding-you are correct!

  • But how do you take out flesh?

  • Half peat Half Perlite Sphagnum on top

  • hmmm i think i should get a venus flytrap , because here are lots of these insects :D

  • @TurkWingTsun it wll NOT help at all. it only gves good breedng grounds for them

  • if u open one of the leaves when it closes does it die?

  • man mine use to close right away it was so big.

  • I've 2 beautiful Venus Fly Traps.

The Trick to keep them alive is:

Put them and 0,5-1,0 cm water, Place them in a window that points south, and don't give them tap water cause they'll die in 3 months.

If you give them Rainwater they grow very fast.

  • or distilled water too, LtDemolition

  • lol im gonna get one and feed it a hambuger

  • itll die the fat content is to high

  • no offense but that trap is a little slow and doesnt entirly close! try getting a red dragon or red rosetta not a dente

  • whats a red dragon or red rosetta?

  • the reason they close fast is cuz energy from the sun and if the (bug) inside of it moves and struggle the plant closes tighter (i just got one:) )

  • sweet im gunna grow one and see wat it can eat

  • just about anything i think. dont trust me im not an expert, but i do not u shouldn't feed it too much cuz if you do it will take forever for the trap to open again

  • lol the fly is just moving around behind the bars wondering whats goin on

  • wow that was realyy interesting thanks ebeyonder!

  • i fed my venus and potato and it died.

  • I fed mine a piece of pizza and its still alive XD

  • holy crap how big is that plant?! either that's a big plant or thats a puny spider...

  • Aw... I was hoping it would close faster, like WHAM!!

  • They do... usually. O_o

  • whit acid :P

  • it's like jail

  • Beautiful video :-)

  • Just reading the comments here, everyone - cool down! It's just a plant, geez.

    "Take a Chill-Pill"

  • were does it all go?!

  • the plant closes.. sends in digestive fluids a day later, the fluids disolve most of the animal and two weeks later it reopens and parts are still in there.. the remaining parts are still in tact.. they look just like dead animals (bugs) you find in spider webs.. dry and shrunken..

  • lol i thought it would be more instant

  • i meant jeffrey

    henry dahmer lol

  • stupid fly thats the henry dahmers for insects

  • I had one last summer but I did something wrong and it turned black very quickly. I think it was a bad fly. Once they close they don't open up for hours. Small gnats are better.

  • traps close and reopen around 4 times and they they mature at which point they turn black.. its not the fly its just the way plants are. Keep in mind those things only need 2-3 flies a year and not one every time it reopens... Thats the reason yours turned black so fast.

  • yeah i just bought this thing called carnivorous plant thingy or w/e ever and it bit me AND I LAUGHED XD

  • kinda slow on the trapping. you keep it in moist areas im an owner of them and they're way faster get back to me

  • No you dont. Its really hard to keep them alive. Theyre very sensetive to the ammount of water you give them. Plus to keep them active you have to occaisionally put a small wad of meat in a mouth

  • No. THey are not.

That's why you killed yours, idiot! You don't feed them meat you feed them insects you don't put them in potting soil you put them in acidic soil and you don't feed them tap water.

    Idiot.

  • Yea you can feed them ground beef.

    Idiot

  • I fed mine tap water since i got it 2 years ago and its still alive.

    Idiot

  • All you guys are dumbasses mostly cause youre hypocrites. like you jose you know you dont have one because you sold it once you got it

    Hypocrites

  • i want one of those!

  • Nope, it is not of any harm to humans :)

  • Thats some weird shit! What happends if you put your hand in there can it poison u or hurt you???
