im not going to "dislike" this video, because its well done for the most part, considering you are an amateur. sometime in the future, you ought to consider playing rach with a little more power. im seeing a lot of you jumping around on your seat (which looks really rehearsed btw) but im not seeing much power. im sure its a very long and exhaustive piece, but that cadence was very weak sounding. aside from that one criticism i have to admit, its an amazing accomplishment to play the entire thing
dont listen to asmanyaspossible - it is certainly better to underuse the pedal than overuse it. as for the faces comment - totally irrelevant and a stupid thing to say.
overall it is good except the cadenza is not as passionate as it should be. perhaps you need to hit those chords harder? I don't know, but something needs to be done...
@oldneuro Usually the pedal doesn't cut through due to the camera's sound compression. But I agree with you: why are people so concerned about how people look or act when they play; it's an art for God's sake. If they were so bothered with expressions etc.. they'd be better off listening to pop music.

Uhh..you kill..KILL..the piece with your faces. but a bag over your head next time. you played really well..but..uhh..you could have waited on this? you need more experience. Obviously, you have had no confrontation with the pedal or else you would use it. too choppy. yeah, sure..you can say you play the Rach3..but how well? quality, not quanity.
assmanyasspossible, hear me out bruv, stuffed shirts like ya really piss me off . U should respect this man for the hard work he has put out. He might be not as perfect as Horowitz but he has got a chance to be . As for you - I doubt it. Cos you got too many bags on your face to grasp the essence of things.
oh, I don't really know what a cadenza is, I just thought it was the oart around 1 minute. It is hard to hear that part though. DO hungarianm Rhapsody No. 2!!
Good effort on this monster. But what the fuck are you doing trying to play this? I'm a self-taught piano-loving amateur too. I've been playing for 14 years and still don't dare play a Rachmaninoff Concerto. Some day I will, I tell myself. You should work into crazy monsters like this by playing a bunch of Chopin and Brahms and maybe a little Liszt. Good work on the cadenza, though. You almost had me convinced. Now let's see you play something like Chopin's Nocturne Op. 27 No. 1. Good luck.
that was one of the most difficult parts in my practice. I played it so many times that I could almost hit the exact time when the orchestra comes in again after a break. Thanks for your comment, friend
but could you tell me what fingering and, I don't know, hand position for the presto part? Or are you onto something else now, and this cadenza is a thing of the past? It reminds me of Christ's earthly ministry (started when He was around 30)
Hi, it's great - please tell me what the hand positions are for the run of chords (presto) at 4.01 since I can't get them fast. My teacher said to keep the fingers free in the middle (but I'm no longer in contact with her). Could you give some tips? I'd be most grateful if you could say which fingers for the first, say, eight chords. Brilliant playing. Thank you very much!
Just a quick question : how do you keep in time on the cadenza? Surely you do it at your own pace? How does the CD come in at the right time after hte cadenza?
Thank you so much for making so many good comments on my Rach video:) I've only played the most famous part of Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini. It's really beautiful. One of my favourites
good job !

Cadenza is a little jumpy but lovely in general. I love it when you stand up, it is rather entertaining.

Why not play it without the orchestra, or at least the cadenza, it is hard to hear =(. You should do Hung Rhap 2 =)

Mmm... Im sorry I don't understand. You said the cadenza??? It starts at 3:01, and its without the orchestra of course :)

Don't be afraid to play with a lot of power and emotion (which you definitly have) the cadenza wil sound perfect with power.

btw i didn't mean that comment to come out like a dick. seriously, pretty good. and good cadenza. any reason why u pick ossia vs the shorter one?
darkdss 3 years ago
I think I liked the more dynamic with the "big fat chords" haha.... They almost drive me crazy, hehe.... Just love them
biokemiker 3 years ago
@darkdss ossia is more longer and the big fat chords sound more majestic
TheJay0thegreat 2 months ago
not bad for an amateur.

I have a theory!! I say that you stole the flashes hands. There's no way a normal person can move that fast over a piano.

Lovely build up to the Cadenza. As for the cadenza... your best so far I think! It looked very tiring lol.
Interesting CD too. How about doing Rach's Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini? =D Looks like you will have no trouble at it.
