Well the rub is not that the 4T bikes could even hang with the 2Ts. They just kept adding displacement to the 4Ts until they were just too fast. It was simply political, nothing to do with which was a better race bike. The only true comparison would be equal displacement bikes on the same track.
Most of us know that the old stroker races were much more exciting and entertaining to watch but all the tea in China will not bring them back.Really miss those old machines.
Rossi's lap times dropped well over 1 full second with about 4 laps laft and his top speeds went from 235kph up to 255kph and he swallowed barros and won the race with about 4 laps to go. U could easily see the difference in how quickly the 2 stroke get to full lean
Equal size engines the 2 stroke is much more powerful. Even a 600cc 4 stroke moto2 or world supersport bike makes 140hp or less. The 2 stroke 500's made about 190 hp.
I just recently re- watched this GP on motogp.com . It is always fun to watch races from 02 to see the 2stroke vs 4 stroke racing on track together the sad thing is that despite the 2 stroke being 30 or so lbs lighter they still can't (couldn't ) match the 990's on the straights. Vr rode behind barros almost the entire race then all of a sudden he blew by him on the straight so fast it was obvious that vr was just saying close for the fans . Engines of equal displacement the 2 stroke Is much mo
Fit a 500cc two stroke with the latest tech and traction control and put the bike between the leg of the lousiest rider, I bet you, that he will take over everybody very easily, These stupid manufacturer honda is the one started this stupid 4 stroke nonsense. Why must honda have a lot of say in motogp? Next year there will be no more 125cc 2 stroke and will be replace with 250cc 4 bangers, Thanks to honda motherfuckers... I'M still using a honda NSR150 2stroke and will always use it!
bring back the 2 stroke racing and fuck the government and there stupid environment cock sucking laws ... they don't think of the environment when it comes to war and h' bomb testing do they. look how long the oil fires burned in the oil war throwing black acrid toxic smoke up in to the sky for months,,, they are cock suckers.
To all you arguing that 4 strokes are better, please know your facts. 2 stroke will always without a doubt be faster than 4 strokes. Yes 4 strokes are great and older 2 strokes may seem slower than newer 4 strokes. Not the case. Technology has been developing in the 4 stroke region and the reason they are phasing out 2 strokes is because of the environment, fuck the government and its laws! If 2 strokes were still in production and allowed to be improved, I can guarantee they would sell more.
How can anyone NOT like 2 strokes are you kidding?, hell i like 4 strokes too but 2 strokes are just too much fun. Anyone that restricts themselves to 4 strokes is seriously missing out on the other half of the FUN!
I would like to see how a evolved 500 two stroke would compete with an 800 four stroke. The 800 have about 220? hp with 145 kg a 500 should have 230? hp with 131 kg, but will be more difficult to ride, and will eat more tires(harder compound) I think tractioncontrol will make the 500 a lot easier to ride and less tire comsuming, compered to the old ones.
Two stroke is still out there and being evolved (fuel injection, valve vontrol, low emissions), but it's not so very much informed about. It could again be the engine technology of choise for the fastest bikes, but two strokes is so "old" and "climate unfriendly" etc etc
the 4 strokes will never catch the power of a 2 stroke because the 2 strokes have torgue in all range of the rpm and they accelerate more powerfull than the slow 4 strokers
Nope, the 1998 NSR500 made 180 horsepower, down from 190 horsepower the previous year because of new unleaded fuel regulations. They had to run less compression with unleaded fuel to control detonation and so, power dropped. The fastest recorded speed for the two strokes was just over 200mph from Shinichi Itoh's fuel injected NSR in 1994 at Hockenheim. The 4 stroke Honda RCVs immediately went over 205mph in 2002 and were making over 220 horsepower. They have since gotten even faster.
my friend you can read the hondas book history with the 100 best bikes ever and the wikipedia about the nsr500 engines and then we shall talk again. and one more thing what would you think would run the 1/4 mile faster the nsr500 or the rc211v ??
Even for a 2-stroke fanboi, this smacks of extreme stupidity! Either that or you are being obnoxious! I am one of the biggest fans of the 2-stroke motor and use a Yamaha 2-stroke myself and I just love the NSR 500 but there is not way you can compare a 990cc or even 800cc MotoGP 4-stroke machine with a 500cc 2-stroke machine. It's not how much power that the motor generates but HOW that power is delivered to the tires that makes all the difference. Key word - power band.
then you should know that 1 hp of a 2 stroke is equal to a 1.5 hp of 4 stroke so a 200hp 2 stroke accelerates equal to a 300 hp 4 stroke and the most powerfull rcv had 250 hp so.....not a chance for the poor 4 sroke....and as for now the 125cc produce 60 hp so the 500 could produce over 240 hp
That's bullshit. Mathematically (and purely theoretically), the equation is this: For the same cubic capacity, a 2-stroke motor will make around 1.5 times the power of a 4-stroke motor. I HP = 1HP, in any context. Moreover, the 500cc machines were often de-tuned to around 180-190 BHP in order to make them rideable, never mind the theoretical maximum limit. You may like to see the whole 2002 MotoGP season which had 500cc 2-strokers battle it out with the 990cc 4-strokers. Very interesting.
maybe your knowledge about mechanology is too short. but anyway the 2 strokes were abandonned because the rules had to promote the 4 strokes and one more thing they stopped the evolution on the 2 strokes because they were undrivable and the riders had accidents because of the hisidings .
Funny how I support my case with facts and figures while you are clearly just trolling around. I'll waste my time no more on your retarded statements. Just one suggestion though - get your concepts straightened out. I hear Wikipedia is a good place to start. Peace!
you are right the facts shows the truth.... 60hp from 125cc 09 year . and as you said something for the wikipedia just read the previous comments and then talk... about the honda nsr 500 history .. and when you are about to open your mouth again please read your lessons first ...
@z0ltanz0ltan all the first riders prefered the 4 stroke because the stopped the evolution on the 2 strokes and gave the previous year bikes to the teams who would race with the 2 strokes because of the low budget... the 2 stroke had more over power that no rider could ever use it, when they pull the full throtle the bike started to make wheelies and must keep it down on the 2 wheels for maximum acceleration so the only reason that 2 strokes lost is because of this extrordinary p
True. Remember though that for many years the Sachsenring actually saw faster 250's than 500's. It all boils down to the weight and power distribution to the tires. Even otherwise, 3-4 seconds per lap is still an insane amount of difference on the track. Over a 30 lap race that would amount to a staggering 2 minutes of time difference! Plus, if you compare 800cc and 500cc lap times, you can see that the state of the art has indeed progressed in MotoGP!
This was 2002 and the WEST NSR500 was the best NSR of all time relative to lap times. Barros wasn't too shabby either. Remember that when they finally gave him the RC211V, he won some races and made Rossi think.
Dominatus84: Please find me a 4-stroke RACING engine with a 30.000-50.000km piston life! A real 2-stroke engine changes pistons about as often as a 4-stroke would do valve adjustments and that amounts to about the same here where I live. Given the fact that you change pistons yourself, but send the 4-stroke away for valve adjustments. And given the fact that 2-strokes kick ass, I can't see why you are so eager to defend 4-strokes? They are great engines, just not as great as 2-strokes.
