@Federer2001 Also, The only updates I would put in the 2012 VolVo C70 is rear seat airbags for the head. Also, why not put additional airbags in the rear and fron seats for the middle? For example, have them deploy just like the side impact airbags but also have them come out in the middle. Anyone understand me?
Great - fantastic dummy control... What I don't understand - and this isn't just a Volvo issue - is why the rear passengers don't deserve side protection. Dummy clearly hits the trim panel...
absolutely not. they do that because a small person is easier to protect that a larger: in the same crash-test, the damage reported by a larger dummy would be heavier; try to think about a tall body grazing the roof of the car on the side impact: window-bags would better protect a shorter dummy than a bigger.
How so? if a larger person were in the car there would be less space for the crumping until the side of the car and the front of the car reachs the driver. which means if a larger person was in a small car, the big dude will die first.
I agree about the average heigth to ba 5'9-10" BUT look at 1:07 : it's more than clear that the dummy used hardly reach 5": his shoulders don't even appears from the dashboard line and his nape doesn't reach the middle lane of the headrest. I'm sure automotive companies well know this aspects when they have to pass a crash test .....
Very, very good for a convertible! It didn't crush in over the driver during the frontal crash.

Not only I love this car, but I love how safe it is. I know Volvo engineers will make the c70 line even safer in the future.

@felsner1 yeah me too.. and its volvo they must desing something for them.. the rear dummy did not record any major injuries though.
Rodolcort 1 year ago
@Rodolcort True. I mean, how hard can it be to fit airbags there, too? Really strange... But what I great car apart from that. Me want one!
felsner1 1 year ago
oh wow on the side test u can see how the seat belt pre-tentioners work... it is soo cool
Rodolcort 3 years ago 23
Yeah, it's incredible! They tighten so extremely fast, almost as if they acutally foresee the collision!

the size of dummies in crash tests is always like for child. never taller than 6 feet...:(
giacotubo 3 years ago
yup!! They do that to show that if a small person in a crash isn't injured, then a larger person would have even a lesser chance of injury.

well lets see. the average height for a male adult is 5'9-10" and about 5'5" for a woman so that actually makes sense.

No, they use a combined Head/Thorax bag, which does not protect taller drivers in certain "impact point vs seatback angle" collisions.
