@mispistoleros I wish that were true. Mexico is still in a hell of a bad position. The economic hitmen have been at work down there for half a century. Banks (and the IMF) don't really have money, they create it by bookkeeping. Bank credit accounts for 97% of the US money supply and more in the EU. Austerity is the weapon of the IMF and US conservatism. There are people fighting it though.

This is just guilt by association, how can one believe this? Many autocrats happened to make economic reforms, especially in the last decade, often on pressure of the west. This doesn't make them democratic liberals, their police states stay the same and the west has to be criticized for working with autocrats, but that doesn't change the economic facts. Tunisia and egypt had both light growth in the last years due to IMF reforms, and it's just fallacious to blame the IMF for the arab problems!
