i remember when this happened....she was a couple years older than me. By the time they found her, I'd already left for college. This is truly sad...RIP Shawanda! God bless Anita Douglas and you too KWH for not forgetting!

I was born in 1972 and grew up in oriental this is so sad,i was probably to young to remember but i am sure i have to know her family. I can't believe this it goes to show that this stuff has been going on for a long long time and its a shame sum people do no deserve to have kids. This mite be sad to say but i am glad she is with her true father somewhere she is loved and taken care of.. Most of my family is buried their I will visit her.

@weelinzygee Shawanda was 13 when she was murdered in 1995. Her body was not found for 8 years, and her bones and skull were not buried until 2005. The casket contained only her remains, so not much room was needed. Truly, she was FORGOTTEN BY ALL .. KWH

Thank you for watching and for your comments. Her body was actually discovered near Fayetteville, NC. I don't know where in NC she was killed or where her uncle was tried. (He died in prison). But she is buried in in New Bern, NC, thanks to some concerned individuals reaching out. IN HER MEMORY -- KWH

2 Corrections: She was found near Florence, NC. She is buried at Oriental, near New Bern. Directions to the grave: Take Hwy 55 east to Oriental, NC. Take a right onto Silverbrook RD, go about 1 mile past a trailor park. Shawanda's resting place is located in the back of the cemetery. -If you can, please visit her - KWH

I think it should also be mentioned that her cemetary spot was donated by the Young family who had buried their beautiful daughter Jennifer in the adjoining plot. The girls are close in age and can keep each other company in rest.

Did she live with the uncle? Was this an abuse situation?

Shawanda was born August 14, 1981. She would be celebrating her 27th birthday this month. We don't know what she would have been like, but I would like to believe she would have been a productive member of society - KWH

Watching this video again makes me more sad. Why would anyone do this to an innocent young girl who haven't had a chance to bloom in the later years? No parent want to see their child die horribly and utterly forgotten as Shawanda Letisha Johnson. No one.

Thank goodness she's at peace and beyond the touch of evil.

As for her parents and neglectful relatives, I want them to get their just deserves. May they rot in prison.

Roger C. Barlow, the man who killed Shawanda in 1995, died in prison 2/22/07. Even though this appears to be some justice, I take no delight in this, because I would much rather have Shawanda with us today -- KWH

I know death is not a good thing,but in my opinion this man deserved what he got. Maybe in a way he got off to easily. I think that anyone who takes a life without good reason should have their life taken as well. I call this true justice. If I offend you I am sorry. These un-justices has to stop some where.

It's sad that this bastard onoy received 12 years in jail for murder and concealment (8 years) of a murder. But what's equally devastating is that HER MOTHER AND FATHER ARE STILL LIVING. Which means they were out in the world when this happened. Nobody questioned her disappearance. Was these people the only family that she had. If this is so then I'm glad that her spirit has moved on to something peaceful and beautiful. They didn't deserve to be parents! Rip Babygirl...

Thanks for sharing your story. It's sad that the parents of Shawanda didn't care for her while she was living. That it took so to lay her to rest when her body was found in 1995. The parents ought to be ashamed for what they did to her.

While we go on with our own lives griping about not being thin enough or rich enough and longing for more material possessions, Shawanda Letisha Johnson just wanted to be loved. And in the end she found love from a stranger or should I say an angel on earth, Anita Douglas. Thank God for people that care about the forgotten, Kwhudson2, Stephanie B and Anita Douglas. We have to remember them.
