@Refining1 Brother Baines was loosely based off a man Malcolm met in prison. I think his name was Bimmy, but that's probably wrong. Bimmy was an intellectual of sorts, liked to read and study a lot, was good with words, etc. I don't think he was a member of the Nation of Islam, though. But he was sort of a gateway to Malcolm joining the NOI. Malcolm's brother and sister actually first introduced him to the NOI, as they had recently joined the religion. His sister told him the story of Yacub.

@Refining1 Brother Baines was loosely based off a man Malcolm met in prison. I think his name was Bimmy, but that's probably wrong. Bimmy was an intellectual of sorts, liked to read and study a lot, was good with words, etc. I don't think he was a member of the Nation of Islam, though. But he was sort of a gateway to Malcolm joining the NOI. Malcolm's brother and sister actually first introduced him to the NOI, as they had recently joined the religion. His sister told him the story of Yacub.
