  • Really cool, but english is not my first language and I find a bit hard to follow her at certain points.

  • Yeah turning CC is a good idea....

  • Comment removed

  • I had to download the video, and then play it in slowmotion to catch on

  • turn on CC at 41:27

  • Is the difference between a list and a heap how much grouped items' content are looked at?

    Geek - assembler

    Nerd - learner

    Genius - abstractive agent

Engineer - uses abstraction of learned material to assemble designs

  • Thanks Stanford!

  • I can't take her seriously.... I bust out laughing before the first minute of the video is up.

  • good lecture... .

on a side note, she speaks very fast (which is good):

One of 2 possibilities either she processes informations very fast and is thus very sharp or she memorizes very well and that is how she made it and excelled through school

  • I'm supposed to go to school, but I'm watching this instead...It's funny

  • She doesn't speak too fast; she was born that way. *dances to Lady Gaga's music*

In all seriousness though, it's not that hard to follow her. They also have transcripts.

  • download this video and watch it in slow mode with vlc media player

  • It {subclass} par 1 Y=X let 1 be 67 OK GOTO class output on Vector C of 9 This snippet of code allows us to oversee the basic methodologies used in modern software premises on a ANSI scale. It supplements the characteristics of Hardware conversion in real world applications.

  • Also, there are transcripts of each of the lectures at the Stanford web site which makes it easier to understand what she is saying...but even the transcriber often has problems in understanding her.

  • Just want to add that she said, a couple of times, that she knew she spoke too fast and kept asking her students if she was speaking too fast. It seems to me that she should strive to speak more clearly and more slowly so everyone can understand her. Being an educator at one of the top universities she needs to work on her ability to communicate properly. Even after I massaged her audio, slowed it down, took out background noise..she was obviously slurring words..speech impediment?

  • I have discovered that, after saving this video using Replay Media Capture, then modifying the audio using Audacity by removing noise, then changing the speed by slowing it down by 20%, and using the high pass filter, that she is almost intelligible sometimes. You can also, if you use something like Replay Media Capture to save the video, then you can play it back more slowly by using VLC media player which lets you slow down the audio and video. It is better, though, to use Audacity as I said.

  • Every moaning about how fast she speaks need to get real. Just one of the signs of a great university. Their just keeping it moving with the syllabus.

  • She speaks too fast.

  • God!!! Ask her to go slow Pleassseee! Just rushing so hard!

  • Her enthusiasm is contagious. I find that her rapid speech engaging ... I can

process it just fine and it is fast enough to maintain my interest - awesome.

  • I don't give a fuck about lecturer, it is about programming, not about popularity jokes or looks.

  • this is great!

  • Is this video free?

  • Do you have to pee?

  • tongue-twister...

  • maybe its because she's a woman?

  • it gets kinda annoying at the speed shes delivering...

  • can anyone tell where can i find CS106x............is it available on youtube

  • Comment removed

  • mam plz slow down, not all listeners are fuking native english speakers............other than that u are awesome

  • @sabasania people will complain about free shit no matter how valuable. lol

  • linux lib -> github.com/b33tr00t/cs106lib

  • is she coked out?

  • Mehran Sahmi is way more better than her....

  • @Techraze do you have a link to Mehran Sahmi course you can share here?

  • @TheTubeRousseau search programming methodology on youtube the course is for complete beginners.

  • Really great lectures! You can even download the course reader from the website. Two thumbs up for her. Thanks for sharing. I think it would be better using the standard c++ libraries and it's a shame that Stanford didn't think about *nix users.I wanted to follow it and do the assignments too but they don't compile with g++. Maybe it has something to do with their custom libraries.

  • @b3etr0ot guess you could use CodeBlocks and import the VisualC++ project... not sure if it works though

  • @cranil i could use Code Blocks or Eclipse or just do what i usually do and use a text editor. the problem is with the CS106CPPLib.lib. it would be nice of them to release the source code.(hint hint).

  • did she say fuckcibility? 31:16

  • 10:54-12:45 is one of the most valid statements that can be said for all programmers.

  • @daviddellsperger indeed it is

  • this is like a machine

  • talking soo fucking much faaaaaaaaast :@:@

  • This is like you applied 2x speed to video.

  • fast speaking... faster learning =D

  • fast speaking... fast learning =D

  • yes yes nice accent

  • to those saying she needs to calm down... her fast speaking is the process of a brain hindered by a body. she's clearly so smart that she can't even talk fast enough!

  • i love these videos but her talking speed already turned me off....its like she is trying to prove how smart she is by fuk rushing

  • should i learn cs106a first or cs106b please reply :d

  • @apilash cs106a for sure ;)

  • @apilash yes you should

  • At 7:20 one of the words on the slide says "confidant" .. it should be corrected to say "confident"

  • has anybody used that stanford library in Visual Studio 2010? I include it and import in project, but i cant run the program. I always get error on function "GetInteger" and others...

  • can anybody please tell me how to add 106b libraries in xcode.

    Thank you

  • She is way faster for me ...but I am trying to understand . Other lectures are good too

  • she speaks very fast which kind of makes u a little bit confused and by the time u start understanding something wht she is trying to teach and sometimes u are in the middle of no where but what impresses me is her enthusiasm and commitment to make u learn ....

  • c++ is crack mom

  • Comment removed

  • She speaks fast because the rest of humanity is retarded

  • @jvillavic hahahahah i'm glad someone else appreciated not being bored by a crappy slow talking professor constantly saying uhhh and umm

  • I'm up to lecture 20, and I thought she slowed down. She does slow down a small bit, but it is more I get used to her speaking pace. It is a fine pace, she speaks fast but very clear, and with online videos it is easy to go back to review if you missed what she says. Great intro class to C++ and using and writing data structures (ADT), and OOP. The slides can be a bit fuzzy, download them as pdf google for "stanford see programming abstractions"

  • This talking speed is perfect. More education for your time...

  • holy sh1t, she speaks fast.

  • Being "curious and ask questions" helps in any subject one needs learns.

I am a bit worried when it is taught at starting courses that math/logic is not important in a engineering discipline and then go on to claim other engineering discipline do not need abstract thinking in the same was as computer science. This indicate and ignorance of general engineering methodologies and principles or a believe that such methods are exclusive to computer science. Such claims are of course utter nonsense.

  • C++ is crack mom!! hahahaha

  • who will be the next teacher is Buster Rhymes?

  • S P E E A A K M O O R E E S L O O W L Y Y

  • @happyking9 happy im not alone thinking that .. I think she doesn't get paid per hour :p

  • the libraries and code can be found at

    stanford.edu/class/cs106b/index.html

    and

    see.stanford.edu/see/courseinfo.aspx?coll=11f4f422-5670-4b4c-88

  • @IronChefWannabe thanks, got libraries, compile to go on visual studio. They even have pdf of the course reader textbook.

  • will start soon the CS106B's

  • Makes the same joke twice!!

  • is this the next class after the programming methodology?

  • @pb0o6

    Yep

  • @pb0o6 It's a companionship class to 106a. She says so in the video.

  • How much you need this video to upload lol i need 10 min 2 h lol! how much you need :?

  • Cute, is she a dane? Keeps saying "for eksempel" (in REAL Danish dialect), instead of 'for eksample' in american english dialect.

  • @daniel1982

I guess she is American, her father or grandfather could be Polish because of her surname.

  • after doing cs106a , 3 month before i am starting C++ today and looking to move to cs106X....

  • Great Course ! I guess her negotiation was successful, the course reader is posted on the website now !

  • Great series of videos, very helpful :)

  • huh..!!! why the rush?

  • Great stuff.

  • Man ...she is too fast for me :(

  • 36:28

  • Hey you can get this video and PDF for free on iTunes U. It's a section in the iTunes Store. I don't know why more people don't talk about it.

  • in the nexts lectures she calms down and speak much slowlier and clearer . It seems that someone told her (or maybe she saw herself on the video)

  • This professor needs to switch to decaf.

  • LOL..

  • testing..

  • hi..

  • thanks standford

  • Programming Abstractions in C.??? plz reply

  • wow great teacher

  • Please update your YouTube descriptions so they reflect the content of each video.

    Thank you.

  • can anyone tell where can i get a pdf version of the course reader for this course "Programming Abstractions in C"

  • she speaks too much with no sense

  • if you guys find her so fast just download the lecture and play it at a slower speed. simple!

  • Hey guys anybody knows where to download Visual Studio 2005.There is Visual Studio 2008 version in Microsoft's downloads website, but I couldn't find VS 2005.Help..

  • You may find that's because they want you to use the most up-to-date versions.

  • Purchase it.

  • Use torrent.

  • She doesn't seem to talk too fast for me.

Then, again, I tend to listen closely in class. :)

  • @MyOverflow Maybe it is because we are not American or English. She speaks fucking quickly for me. But Its no problem.

  • Maybe you are too slow

  • @FrankRizzo6662 Maybe. But I speak 4 languages and I think you only one. For a native english person is very natural to undersatand it, you dont have to think about it. This is the reason we need to talk and listen more slowly.

  • @Impresioniste +1 from me

    frankrizzo you are a loser

  • @ge0rgi0 I have a loser hangin between my legs for you

  • can you fold it around to get its tip to your butthole?

  • @Impresioniste - Could have fooled me, you can't even get one language right.

  • @FrankRizzo6662

My native languages are spanish and catalonian. I think I know pretty well at least my own languages. 2 in this case, more than you. I think you forgot a word in your message: " but ". You can't even writte in your own language. This is a ridiculous discussion.

  • my brain can't keep up processing the flow of words. damn!

  • 8:25 " i am i talking too fast?" lol yes you are so fast but it is so nice i get some practice so i can understand my fiance better lol

  • lol @ medoelkorsan thats funny :)

  • is it me or does any think she is better off being a journalist or reporter?

    Her english is so pafect.

i wish i can have her cool.

  • talk so fast, so fast like a new yorker.

  • she talks fast so you cant drift off ;)

  • That's the difference between C++ lectures and VB lectures (if such things exist at all...) : C++ names and identifiers are often so small that one says them really fast. Compare pronouncing "int Main" to "Public Shared Sub Main()", and you get the idea.

  • Yeah? Now try typing them both a million times!

  • I love this lecturer and the class seems great but it's impossible to find the course reader!!!

  • I love this woman. Not often in my life have I found a woman who is inspirational. I like her fast pace as well, a lot of other lectures seem to drone on and take forever to 'load' info. highspeed > dial-up. thanks for uploads.

  • Yeah she's fast. If I didn't already know C++ I'd be lost. She also a fast typist since a couple of lectures I actually had to pause and see if she actually typed the code by hand or used cut and paste LOL!

  • C++ part of the lecture begins at 29:50 (prior is course logistics for students in the course)

  • @peller71 Thanks for the heads-up!

  • @peller71

    thanks

  • lady sounds so out of breath

  • Can someone provide a link to the book which is used in this course.

Is it Programming Abstractions in C? but isnt that book for C ?

  • Dude, it's like these profs know me or something. I find them very understandable, genius jokes, turn 'blah' student questions into subtly sarcastic jokes as responses.

Does anybody know if they have to take psychology or something?

  • I like how she talks fast, she covers a lot of information in the time, instead of us sitting around forever waiting to get into the topic.

  • She talks fast, no doubt... but if you can't follow her, you have the transcript of the entire lecture at Stanford Engineering Everywhere's page... These are amazing lectures.... Thank you Stanford!!!

  • thanks for the info! =)

  • hi guys, No doubt she talks fast but I am going to follow and listen her lectures . I got very good concepts by her. In fact she is very good teacher.

  • She does speak at a fairly brisk pace, so I can see where a non-native english speaker would have an issue following what she says. That being said, I didn't personally have any issues understanding her.

  • Comment removed

  • She doesn't speak fast :S

  • She is not talking fast, It's that your a little slow

  • i think she talks at a good rate. I can keep up with her, no problem

  • The audio must be faulty. NOBODY talks that fast.

  • Stop moaning and shut up

  • Dude. It's a free lecture. Stop complaining.

She does talk fast, but it's not that impossible to follow.

  • Talk faster thus good lecture video.

  • Thanks for the lecture. This will be helpful for me

  • โคตรเร็ว จบข่าว

  • I have a BS from University of Florida, I wish I went to Stanford...

  • Many people have similar wish.

  • speak to fast!

  • she's sharp but she talks too fast

  • maybe you're too slow,,,,,,

    just breakin balls

  • I'd go with too slow

  • This video is superb to get a secong lecture from, im currently taking ap cs in high school and these videos are helping me alot.

  • Wow, very great idea posting this! I'm a freshman in Highschool, and this helped me out extensive. Thanks a lot for posting this!

  • It's too bad there isn't source available for all the custom functions; shouldn't most of it be cross-platform?

    (disgruntled linux user)

  • This is great!

I'm really thankful for this :-)

  • no videos for cs106x? :'(

  • you rock

  • I'm planning on applying to Stanford after I get my BS. If I get in I might take this class. I need help in making my code more "beautiful"

  • Where are you getting your BS degree?

  • Thanks for this video. Im currently attending school and the Standford videos are helping me out sort of as a second lecture!

  • I'm not a student but like this stuff. Too bad they don't post all their courses :P

  • great~go on Stanford
