this was not a deleted scene from the movie. It was added to make into the tv movie pilot version. though the dvd box set of the series did not include that additions and the original movie in the box set was not in letterbox. what bumber. now Battlestar had deleted scenes which ended up in the pilot movie.
Two other memorable scenes from the pilot were also omitted from the DVD because they weren't in the movie... the scene where Buck is shown around his apartment and how to use his voice-activated bed, and the scene where he watches narrated footage of how his former civilization on Earth was destroyed. This needs to be remedied at some point.
Its possible it is not shown on the DVD box set series or somethinglike that, BUT I know I have seen it before I remember Buck drawing the silly face on the big computer and making fun of the lamp shade/salad Bowl thing . Ialso especially remember Buck saying to them "Deep down you really like this place dont you?" and the both of them saying together... "No"
collegeman1988 is ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! I was alive back then and this was my favorite movie and show ever! I absolutely positively remember this scene. It was NEVER deleted
When Buck mentioned, "the electric salad bowl", that's when it hit me! . I've seen this before. And I don't mean the Internet. So if it were deleted, then where the hell did I see this before?
This was not a deleted scene from the movie. The was filmed as a segue from the theatrical release to the television series. This is from the first season of the television series of Buck Rogers.
@gmansi Yes. It was added to the end of the movie as a sort of segue into the series. If you look closely, you can notice a vast difference in Gil Gerard's appearance in the movie and in this scene. Even back then, I found it odd that they'd make it a series so quickly after it had closed in the theaters. Guess they wanted to jump on the Star Wars-induced spaceage bandwagon as soon as possible.
I was so pissed when they didnt include this version on the DVD set. There were two scenes shot specifically for the TV version and also some extra and alternate dialogue. Considering that the DVD set had no extras at all. Its the least they could do.
They guy who put the DVD together is probably 25 and doesnt know the difference.
Should have given us both versions, or sell the Theatrical cut separately like they did with Batllestar Galactica.
@johnknoxville07 - I liked this series back in the day..... If they do a re - make of it, w / Erin Gray as " Dr. ( Ellie ? ) Heuer ", & Gil Gerard as a flight instructor, I kinda hope they cut back on the camp a bit, but not make it quite as " dark " as the re - make of BSG.
ooohh my this was really good fun too watch again this 80,s serie was my favorite too watch on sat day with a nice sandwich and softdrink and noo worrys in the world ;) and still it isreally up too date and soo you see its not al about special effects like this days okeethasnks for sharing alana:D
Universal should've released this set with the TV version of "Awakening" and the theatrical version as a seperate release(similar to Battlestar Galactica). Maybe Universal will re-release Buck Rogers on Blu-ray at some point.
Yes I love Buck Rogers...I think there are a few more small scenes as well they left out...I really wish they would have put everything back into the DVD release cause it would have made the continuity from the movie to the tv show more understandable for this generation of new viewers.
These scenes only represent a minor fraction compared to the uncut movie. Scenes from the movie were cut for television -- VHS tape was back than the premier video platform. Good thing too because I still have some VHS tapes almost 25 years old that still work. Long live tape.
Hey! Thanks for posting this ... ! I'd love to see the 'first episode' as it originally aired again ... (And to see those extra little segments that were trimmed) Unfortunately the DVD release only shows the theatrical pilot.

If this comes out on Blu Ray (I hope!) maybe they will put this in as an extra.

That actually ISN'T a deleted scene. It appeared in the "movie" when it was shown on NBC TV in the fall of 1979.

But ..... but I remember this scene being in the 2nd episode (the first being the cleaned-up/edited version of the motion picture) quite clearly!
This scene wasn't in the motion picture, only the TV show. I was a big fan of both, I saw the movie twice at least!
