english is a lot easier. and do you really think that dativ, akkusativ, genitiv and nominativ are easy in german?

I'm a swede learning german, and I am pretty decent on where the words shall be and so...

But you have "der Ackusativ", "der Dativ" and on top of that, "der Konjunktiv"!

Get rid of those, and german will be easy:P

Yeah, but at least they're very consistent. Really gave me some empathy for what a pain English must be to learn. German's at least very straightforward syntactically. I can't really comment on Swedish, though, but if you could handle English, I don't see you having too much trouble.

@harlequin2262 xD okay uhm.... i'm german and i can tell you - i don't think german is an easy language xD as "GokoJuji" said, we have an akkusativ and an Dativ and Konjunktiv and all those useless phrases and words, i love english. I think it sound very soft not as hard as the german language. And i don't think english is that hard to learn,... xD

You mean those 3 cases that work off an incredibly easy to remember rule? Whereas english is a total crapshoot. The common irregular verbs in German are few and far between, whereas in English they're practically the norm. English is a dogs breakfast of a language, combined from a few others. Each letter can have a few different pronunciations depending on a few things, etc.

WAY too many Synonyms, and the sentence structure is very loose. A lot of the terms are also counter

Really? I'm not much of a linguist, but I've dabbled in a few, and English seems so arbitrary in comparison. All the other languages are internally consistent. German's very very consisten grammer wise, when i think of the same sentences in English there's no pattern to them. Same with pronunciation. German, no variation. u is u. In english, there's a bunch of different ways things can sound.

It's learnable, but it seems like so much of it would require rote memorisation.

Ja German is a very fun language to learn. Interesting culture, people, history (um..well not the prettiest history but a rather important one) most verbs are easy to conjugate except for sein (to be) and even that is easy after e bit of memorization and practice.

I like learning it because my great grandparents grew up in german speaking housholds, and they like listening to me speak it.

I have to study for awhile when I get an irregular verb, but the regular verbs are pretty easy. Verbs that have vowel changes can be difficult too.

What I have trouble with is word order and recognizing wether the definite article is der, die, or das in certain words.

German is pretty easy compared to other languages:) Try learning Polish -I'm a Pole and I think we've got the worst grammar to learn for a foreigner!! I know many people who had problems with my language:) Even we Poles sometimes have difficulties with our grammar:)
