  • wow-I am amazed how early you retire hprses (unless he had a medical problem?). Thats very considerate of you-and you still have him and care for him which is wonderful! I LOVE to see horses play and enjoy teh snow-i remember my mare's first winter with me-she was 5 and stuck her nose in a snow drift and snorted! it was so funny! Billy is a laugh and a half!

  • great video.

    Thanks

  • Social, well adjusted, healthy and happy.

jyoung1963 is none of the above.

  • These horses are happy. These animals were bred to work and be mentally/physically stimulated.

PETA fails to realize that 90% of dogs and horses BRED BY HUMANS were bred to RESPOND and DEPEND on humans. If they don't support people interfering with animals- then they do not support most dogs, cats or horses. Another shining example of they're astounding tendancy towards hypocracy.

FUCK PETA. If you reallt want to help, donate to the ASPCA and other animal shelters!

  • They stretch their legs everyday. They are not stuck in a stall day after day like most "show" horses. Our horses get out at least 6 days a week for about 6-9 hrs. They get turn out every couple of months for months at a time. Our stalls are all box stalls. So, they strech their legs plenty! Would you be saying these things about the mounted police horses, too? Or are you just a fascist?!

  • You do realize that horses in pastures all day rarely get the amount of exercise they really need to stay fit, right? I can't count the number of overweight, undermuscled pasture ornaments I see on my way to work every day.

  • Just couldn't see it for what it is, one of the many farms used to rotate our horses.

Can't stand to see the evil lies you blindly believed to be unmasked!

How can you live in such a dark place.

  • Way to comment on the video. Honestly. You bitch and moan about the carriage horses not getting to be 'free' then go to a video of said horses kicking up their heels and having a great time... and bitch about Consumer Freedom?

Well, I suppose if you had to admit the horses were happy it would really shake the foundations of your arguments, nein?

  • Lol at the removal of the comment.

  • I like the nein jab. haha

  • TKK33 You are everything a PETArd is supposed to be, blind to the truth, a misinformed liar and nasty.

How can you live in such a small mind.

  • there is no farm for new york horses.. do you think we are all stupid... How about a 4 story stable with no windows and no place for a horse to lay down and sleep.. a 4foot wide stall.. idiot.. you are done and your way of making a living.. done....

  • If we didn't think you were stupid before, we sure do now. How many carriage stables have you been in, huh? Watching Blinders doen't make you an expert on the subject, if fact, I wouldn't be suprised if watching Blinders has lowered your IQ.

  • they drive them to one retared and they have windows were they can open or close them as they please. go post you PETA shit somewere else

  • Nice one!

  • @TKK333 UM....didnt you see the horses get on a trailer to go to this farm? I mean i'm visually impaired and I saw it! no where was it stated that this farm is in manhattan!

  • Thank you for posting this...it really REALLY makes me so happy to see!~ They look so happy, and are so beautiful here. But not so happy walking around in the city. You obviously do love your horses :) (I love the music too...!~)

  • OK, seriously. How do the horses not 'look happy' in the city? Because they're relaxed? Chewing a bit? Pawing for their feed or to get going again? Horses, when they have free range, spend most of their time going 'step, step, graze, step, step, poop, graze.' That's contentment, not 'happiness.' 'Happiness' comes from getting special attention from people, something the carriage horses get in abundance. That's why the horses are so excited to go back to the city.

  • That being said, these guys probably only carried on like this for hour or less. People seem to think these shenanagins are the main horsie behavior, but horses mostly just like to poop and eat.

They are having fun though. :)

  • The hurt and dead ones don't look happy at all :( Mostly, I just hate to see so much fighting and name calling over this. I believe probably most of the drivers care about their horses; but they just don't seem to realize the dangers that they, and the horses, are vulnerable to in the city. I would be just as sad to see a driver hurt or dead in the street :( I was VERY happy finding out they have a beautiful farm to go to for respite time :) That pretty much made my day!

  • My two dead geldings didn't look to happy either. One stepped in a hole, broke his leg, and had to be euthed at three years of age. The other fell and broke his neck, dying instantly at only 17 years old. Both just playing in the field, about five years apart from each other. Horses die everywhere, and it sucks, but it happens.

The drivers are VERY aware of the potential danger of the city. That being said, there haven't been NEAR as many accidents as pedestrians being hit by cars.

  • I'm really sorry about your horses. It does stink. Oh, and i totally agree about the pedestrians...probably most J walking!?

Or not. A lot more auto accidents in the city too, than auto/carriage accidents.

  • Yes, exactly. Considering the number of pedestrians killed (I shudder to think how many might have been children) the carriage horses are doing very well. The accidents seem to happen when cars don't respect the horses right of way.

Thank you, in regards for my horses, and for being objective.

  • Your welcome. I always try and find out both sides. Of course, then I feel like a monkey in the middle sometimes :) But i would rather to find out all aspects of the truth than argue, you know? Still, I sometimes make mistakes, and speak without thinking first. Hope your enjoying the weekend :)

  • @jta4jesus i used to weatch the am news out of NYC (since i live in a pa community that has many people who commute there), and there was one guy who just stepped off a curb and was hit by a truck.....

  • @jta4jesus there was rece34ntly an accident where a car driver rammed into the back of a carriage in philly. My dad is friends with the carriage driver who was thrown from teh carriage and seriously injured. The horse broke free (there were pieces of teh tack meant to break free in this event) and was fine.

  • Aww, Billy's trot is so cute. The bucking is cute too, but that trot is so fancy!

  • By the way banthecarriage we slaughter cows, chickens pigs, fish, ...... every day. Or don't you wanna know where the meat in the packet comes from?

    Double standard much.

    OK OK you're a vegan!

Billions of mice are killed every year to bring you your soy!

    Shut up!

  • aww! you have beutiful horses! can't wait to get some more someday!

  • Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!

    Snow!

  • HA HA ..BAN got served !! ouch!!! That stings!!!!!

  • How do you know, that after your horse/s retire, they are going an appropriate setting? Do you reserve homes in shelters and sanctuaries for EVERY horse? And even if YOU do, you are just one driver.. what about the other 350 drivers? What do they do with their horses when they can no longer pull carriages? Can you ever be sure that the animals aren't just going to slaughter?

The average working life of a carriage horse is just FOUR years....

  • You people are obsesfed with slaughter. We find homes for our horses and my current horses have all worked for me for more than 4 years. You are full of it!

How about you prove your horrible lies accusations. Prove the horses only last 4 years, show where they go to slaughter.

    You are a liar!

A parrott who repeats what yo hear, you know nothing.

I've been around for 22 years, you are a complete stranger telling me my horses only last 4 years.?!?

    Arrogant imbecile.

  • WHERE does this four year figure come from?

I cannot imagine, given how many horses I personally know that have worked for more than four years (or fourteen or twenty), where all the horses that must work for like a month must be, in order to come up with that ridiculous figure.

Where are your stats to back up that claim, or are you just repeating it like a parrot from PeTA's website?

  • from peta's website... that's where the ridiculous statement comes from

  • @BanTheCarriage where did this four years stat come from? that sounds ludicrious. it really isnt that hard to find a good home for your horse-and anytime you sell any horse they could end up going to someone who ends up selling them to slaughter....you just have no control over that.

  • @BanTheCarriage racehorses have even shorter useful lives-four years would be alot for them. they could be champions, and then when they start slowing down, get sold to slaughter anyway. This happens ALL THE TIME. additionally they are kept in stalls except to train or race-it keeps their energy pent up. They NEVER see pasture-THAT is cruel confinement. racing is truely a horse industry that needs revamping. go bother the jockey club...

  • @BanTheCarriage oh yeah-racehorses are often ridden when they are too young and their growth plates havent closed. the stress put on their bodies is so extreme they often break bones just from running!

  • They run around like they've never had this kind of freedom before. The countryside suits a horse more than the city.

  • They run all the time. these horses are there for MONTHS. Stop attempting to make an issue where there isnt one.

  • @stephjuhler999 everytime you put a horse out in pasture they run like that! they are movement specialists and enjoy moving for the fun of it! kids let out on teh playground for recess run too.....

  • Nope amrou5, probably not! One of our ARA's thought the chestnut on one of our grey horses was a wound! He made a big fuss, taking pics until one of his buddies said it was normal. I laughed my butt off over that!

  • I know! I"ve heard that one before: "What's that sore on the inside of his leg?"

"A chestnut. ALL horses have them."

"What? You do that to all carriage horses?"

"No, ALL horses are BORN with them."

I had one woman ask me what was "wrong with my horse's leg that he's favoring it like that." My horse just had his hind leg cocked while he dozed. I explained that to her, but she claimed she had NEVER seen a horse do that and she "owns one." Obviously she never spends time with it.

  • These NYC Carriage horses spend more time on the farm than in the city each year.

  • i thought you were aware! they know everything about everything! i bet they couldn't tell me where the frog is on a horse

  • They're also the one's who "know" that a horse is dehydrated / about to collapse from thirst because the horse has some foam in his mouth due to the bit, right? Nevermind that a horse who was dehydrated wouldn't have all that saliva...
