@THeKanG423 I'll tell you why. I am half caucasion and half Tongan and I lived in Tonga for 3 years (1998-2001). During the world cup we got up to watch Tonga play the All Blacks on the TV, after New Zealand won they interviewed Lomu and asked him how did it feel to play against his home country and he said that it wasn't his country - it hurt deep to hear him say that. I am proud of my polynesian heritage, but it was as if Jonah was denying his. That is why alot of Tongans don't like him.
Yeah its sad that some players let their fame go to their head. They forget what they came from and how they got to that point in their life, and the blessings god gave them.
I still respect him for his skill, but other than that not really. In the end all we have as Polynesians is our identities, once we lose that we are like any other people that has lost their culture.
Fuck all you haters saying hes done nothing for his people, well what the fuck have you done? NOTHING. You dont know what he has or hasnt done. Just hate cause he was the best to do it & you were just observers.
(: hello haterz..talkin down den backin it all up again ay. True fact Lomuz legend everyone hu gets onda field all wish dey had dis horsepower and become dis legend.. The red cross represents the country's belief in Christianity. The white stands for purity and the red represents the blood Jesus shed at his crucifixion and reminds Tonga's people that they owe their salvation to Him. The Tongan flag originated in the 1860s and was adopted on November 4, 1875, making it one of the world's oldest flags. A 1875 law states the Tongan flag should never be altered.
@cokonuthusk just thinking about it, samoan stars have so much pride in their country, rich or poor they never forget where they came from. only when lomu or should i say lemu is shit, he remembers tonga....
@TheRomal1 brian lima was scared of valita maake in 93 or 94 before his retirement. lomu never met lima head on cause the ab's didnt need to use him that much.you can look it up cause thats a fact!!!
He's given more to Tongan Rugby then the IRB has, and even though you may think he doesn't acknowledge Tonga, The fact that he didnt NEED to go back but still did proves he does....so why get angry :/
What, go to tonga and get paid in peanuts? Wheres the money tonga is supose to get when given to prepare for the world cup? it just slips into peoples pockets and tonga is supose to attract young talent which are born in nz or australia how? He was born in NZ and did his best to better his situation, wtf doe's he owe to tonga.
after so many years and now that u have shyt u want to call tonga home?? get real n piss off its ok if ur going back just dont say ur giving back cause u aynt shyt...
@187prettyboy im not hating i was this dudes biggest fan, n im just saying. not once iv herd this guy do anything for Tonga while he was up at his best.n not once iv herd him call Tonga home n now that his got nothing his calling Tonga home n wants to give back???? wtf give wt back?? and loto kovi of what?? he has nothing tonga dont need him, we have 22 men that are about to represent Tonga tomo and those are the mens we need. mens that don't forget there roots
Ur so right. I know him personally and yes now he wants to go back home. Can understand the sentiment with how most people feel about him, but I agree. Why now when most tongans needed an ambassador for the young and up and coming players years ago. Imagine the impact that would have had on the island those years ago. Being in another country shouldn't take away the roots of your heritage and where you belong. Better late than never.
@tonganfoilole69 I agree, us islanders can never let anybody get ahead. Jealousy and gossip is rife in our society. Just congratulate a brother, don't hate. Nobody is perfect.
well atleast he come back it shows he still cares about his background!! enough said sometimes we might just choose the path to which bennefits your success like he did he never bad mouthed Tonga he was under new zealand all blacks so he could not talk it up for tonga!!!
When he was rich & famous, he never acknowledged his roots or supported tongans in anyway. Why go back now when you have/are nothing. This is nothing more then a publicity stunt. Look at people like David Tua who have helped and supported his people, throughout his career. David Tua has always been a humble, proud samoan. i Wish the same could be said for Jonah Lomu...Fakamole poini showing this video. At least it exposed the beautiful Island of Tonga...GO IKALE TAHI - smash the All Blacks!!!
jonah is the man.if he played for tonga he wouldnt have been as big if he played 4 tonga.no disrepect to tonga.tonga is a great team but who would turn down playing for the all blacks.all in all ima support tonga .they are the best island nation going in to the world cup.unlucky they missed out on the PNC.
Most of my fellow Tongans hate on Lomu because when Tonga first played the all blacks in 1999 RWC becos of Lomu's response to a question regarding his performance and if he will go easy just because he is playing against Tonga. Lomu gave the right reply in my view but most Tongans just never saw the interview but heard by word of mouth and talked it up. All he said was that when he puts on the black jersey it's because of NZ not Tonga and he will do his best for the country he reps...Malo..lol
@navutokaboy eh bro that's the same thing my people said about jr seau. seau had an interview on espn in the early 90s where they asked him about his heritage. the haters said he was bad-mouthing samoans. but because there was no youtube back then people believed what these haters said. well now the interview is posted on youtube and proves jr seau said nothing bad about his people.
point is.. as much as we love our heritage and our people we are still going to have the jealous, ignorant ones
I think he sees how good Tonga rugby is doing and want to be apart of it.. Tell em beat it and go back to NZ.. Tonga don't need him.. Hes a legend in NZ not in Tonga...
@187prettyboy hinano96795 i swear there was a time jonah said he wasn't tongan lol, the bastard is tonga weather he liked it or not. why all of a sudden is he behind tonga now, ok tonga is getting better, but they did it on there own, for way i reckon he should've just played for tonga. but i guess money and fame is over pride and glory and thats a shame.
@hinano96795 True, Tonga doesn't need Lomu. This fool never acknowledged his Tongan heritage. Even Doug Howlett repped his Tongan side more and he ain't even full. After Lomu got his money he left South Auckland and forgot about everything!
@T0NGAN676 Left South Auckland? I can understand why a father who has gets a good job or good income, decides he does not want to raise his kids in Otara or does not want to send his kids to Tangaroa College. I can fully understand that. We strive for betterment of our kids, educationally, economically and career wise and too expand their horizons, see the world. That is why we moved from the islands to NZ, Aus and USA.
Well done to Lomu for going back to the roots and inspiring young up and comers to aspire for greatness in the game of rugby. And well done to the NZ rugby world cup team for organising it.We need to do this with all the island nations.
