  • The end result was perfect...... amazing the color and tone!

  • The girl with the silver earring hehehe...kudos to you my friend :)

  • Wow! you have great skill! And the painting really looks just like your face :-)

I was trying to draw with pastels recently, and found it really difficult. If you don't mind, can you please tell me what paper you are using? Or, can you recommend a good paper which would make it a bit easier to get details / realism to the painting? Any websites you buy the paper from?

    Thanks a ton! Keep rocking!

  • @fernandesfran Thank you :) You can use boards that are just for working with pastels there are some great ones like Ampersand. There is also Canson paper available to use. You can purchase them in any art store. Pearl Art Supplies , Dick Blick even MIchaels or AC Moore. Good luck!

  • @MargiesArtVllog Thanks again for the valuable info! Cheers :-)

  • @MargiesArtVllog What steps should I take to have a better understanding on how to shade?

  • you are a wonderful artist!! awesome !!

  • @usglobalco Thanks so much for the comment :)))

  • Absolutely AMAZING! i wish i could draw portraits in general. Have you taken classes?

  • @0ArmyWife0 , Thanks so much :), Yes I studied under Timothy John Luke Smith, academic artist. I've been painting now for a bit over ten years :).

  • Absolutely Excellent work. I love seeing other amazing artists. It inspires me to push my work more. Feel free to take a look at my videos and let me know what you think:)

  • where can you buy one of those rods? or did you make it?

  • welcome...visit GPABSKY.com website for the ARTIST. thank you!

  • Great self portrait! What's the song in the background?

  • Very very good....As a portrait artist i tend to shy away from drawing myself...The funny thing is im so busy drawing other people that it keeps my mind off of drawing me...Its just an excuse though I believe every artist should do a drawing of themselves..You mastered yours and now i think im inspored to do one of myself...Keep up the great work!!

  • @MrKEEYONARDO

THanks so much for the great comment ! :)

  • @MargiesArtVllog Im working on that self portrait..When done im gonna share it!! You inspired me totally!! Thank You

  • Beautiful! Very good likeness and technique.

  • hey.. its awsom.. wat r u doing ? ?

  • wonderful job!

  • From my experience in doing a self portrait and from what is clear to me about your"s, is not only have you captured your likeness, but also your determination from your expression to accomplish your work.So am I correct in thinking that you did indeed use a mirror ? Very nice work ! Arn.

  • Thank you so much, actually yes I did, LOL you can see how uncomfortable it was in my expression. :)

  • @nighthawknfny thank you so much. I did use a mirror, lol

  • aww i thought you would use paint. its good though

  • awesome thumbs up

  • A rare beauty!!

  • Nice work. awesome Fridas.

  • You should be very proud you have done something that most of us "artist" can't do and that is do the piece justice in a photo or on camera. You my dear are a very talented lady. To answer the question on every artist mind (Would you buy it?) In a heart beat.

Just never stop you will only get better!!

    Thanks for sharing!

  • Amazing :)

  • great job!!

  • Amazing work!!! Stunning!

  • you did such a wonderful job! I was actually working on a self portrait with charcoal recently, and it was probably the most difficult piece I've ever completed. There's just something so revealing about doing a self portrait--I can't describe it in words.

I wholeheartedly agree with your statement of how "There is more to a portrait than just a picture".

  • beautiful

  • Thank you :)

  • very excellent. i enjoyed watching. how long have you been drawing?

  • Thank you, I have been drawing since I can remember. Professionally now for 10 yrs.

  • that's great. im an artist myself, but im nowhere near as good as you are. im okay, but i jus cant seem to make my pictures look like what i am drawing. do you have any tips?

  • You are an amazing artist! love Frida Kahlo not only as an artist but as a woman, I can relate deeply to her life.

With respect! You did an excellent job but why do artists always make themselves 10 years older than they are :) I can imagine the Van Gogh looked like a baby in real life :)

All the very best Thank you for sharing

  • love freidah khalo. what a amazing artist. you got her face down brilliantly

  • thats fantastic

  • A self portrait of yourself

  • beautiful :)

  • very nice...a pleasure to watch you work...

its a classical challenge to do self portraits, something we should do more often..lol

just to answer the comment about using a finger...finger blending is a tried and true tradition...and personal pref...though it does add a tiny bit of oil IF your not clean...and once you have color on that finger it tends to seal it...

  • Nice :) first time I've seen someone use their fingers for blending though was taught to never do that :(

  • You know, I wish I had some sort of art-related talent, but I got writing instead of that. You are really a fantastic artist and I am undoubtedly envious of your talent.

  • Well, you did a fabulous job on yourself! Looks exactly like you!

Everybody wants me to do one of myself. I will sometime..lol.

  • nice job, u nailed it

  • interesting dear

  • you are so lucky always to have a beautiful model

  • i just done self portrait also ...but it needs work..too dark.

  • Very impressive, it is a very good likness.

Though you look a little sulky in the self-portrait or pouty

  • Very impressive self portrait that you completed! I liked to hear a little art lesson with it about Frida-that was great! If you could do more of a lesson on how to do what you did that would be most helpful to young students like me. But it was overall a joy to watch. My name is Anne-Marie but this is my friend's account that I am using to make this comment. Please check out his videos as a animation/motion picture artist and leave your comments. Much Thanks and take care.

  • Delighted to find you here and watching you your wonderful art.

  • With your art,you can be what you wanna, sooo amazing!

  • lovely !!!

  • lol I just realized your portrait looks as if it's studying the viewer as the viewer studies it or even like it's questioning the viewer

  • I love frida I think she is probably the only artist I really studied on my own time I love her as a person and an artist and your self portrait looks exactly like you looks exactly like you^^

  • wow, great portrait, congratulations, I agree with samsarajade, when she says: "the expression might be giving away something about you, looks a little anxious/maybe a little cynical"... It is as if the darkness was snatching the light from you, and the sensibility that express the red background it seems to me like the melancholy goes inspiring

  • I loved your video and the self-portrait was amazing, very beautiful :)

  • Thank you so much for the great comment :)

  • Wow you are awesome :) I love Art in all forms, I am an Artist myself but not a painter :) I admire you work very much I am very happy to find you :) thank you for your comments on Corteo I would had never find you any other way.

    Elena

  • Another fantastic video..very informative and interesting! Thanks also for the shout out! ;o)

What i like about the portrait that you have done of yourself is that it is very similar to that of some of Frida Kahlo self portraits....captured in mid thought, thinking intensely about something and that is the same in your portrait. Very strong and honest...love it! ;)

  • Yes, it looks like you, but what a serious moment!! You certainly look thoughtful...

Very nice video and picture, as you know I already subscribe to you, Gary and Eric - will now check your other recommendation!!

  • Wonderfully done. I'm thinking about the 'clues' and I think the expression might be giving away something about you, looks a little anxious/maybe a little cynical. And the face seems to be turned away from the light.

You've made me decide to take my kids for a trip to our Walker Art gallery this week!

  • I did a pastel family portrait for my GCSE art exam, it was all clues and not much realism, my sister was green, my dad was towering tall above all of us, my mother had steam coming out of her ears! It was all about colour and symbolism-not very flattering lol! Quite an interesting insight into how I perceived our family dynamics though. I don't think I have it anymore.

Thanks for yet another shoutout! You're brill!

  • Yes,I was fidgeting at the idea of even doing a self portrait. I took the image that best described what emotions I was feeling at the time and used it for the demo. I guess you can see all the emotion, i was relaying to the viewer and more :) Thanks for your comment. I wish I could see the family portrait you did. Sounds incredibly interesting. Frida like even. Your great!!!
